That's not just a lowball offer; it borders on predatory, especially from a professional jeweler who should know better. And their response: "We regret that our offer did not align with your expectations. Our pricing is based on market and what we are willing to buy items for, and if you opt not to sell the item to us, you are free to sell it independently to any other interested party." For a business that advertises themselves as giving the best prices for gold, that seems dishonest. If I'd have known I was going to get lowballed, I wouldn't have wasted my time. Just be honest and say, "We're going to give you 35% below today's spot price." How you conduct business is important. How you treat people is important. My grandparents didn't buy cheap jewelry over the years. So I wanted someone to take a look and give me an idea of value for my lawyers and for insurance. I was talking to a lovely lady who told me the price of their services and asked if I could leave everything and they would take care of it and determine what was worth anything and what is just sentimental and would take care of the watches. Then Scott Rettmer stepped in and proceeded to make me feel like crap for wasting their time. Told me that he wouldn't buy any of my items and I was just wasting their time. I was floored. I was willing to spend my money for their services and was happy to be patient, and then Scott stepped in and lost a good customer.
