Years of Loyalty Betrayed - $20K+ Wasted, No Results, and Complete Disregard from Larson Tax Relief I was a loyal client of Larson Tax Relief for years--and I now deeply regret it. Over the last 12 months, I paid them more than $20,000 for tax representation. And what did I get? No resolution. No progress. No communication. And no refund. Let me be very clear: Larson completely dropped the ball, over and over again. By late 2024, communication had already started falling apart. I would go weeks or longer without a response. I kept giving them the benefit of the doubt, assuming work was being done in the background. But I was wrong. Absolutely nothing was happening--except more invoices showing up, demanding more money. Between January and July 2025, I paid them $5,550. I received nothing in return. I finally asked why nothing was moving forward, I got rude, dismissive responses. The worst moment? I told one of their reps that I was the victim of identity theft, and that I couldn't file my personal taxes because my Social Security number was stolen. She laughed at me. Let that sink in--laughed. Eventually, I had no choice but to move on and hire another firm. I requested a refund for the 2025 payments based on zero service delivered. On July 25, 2025, Larson replied saying they wouldn't refund anything. Instead, they referenced internal billing records--as if that erases the months of silence, missed deadlines, and total inaction. I stayed with Larson far too long because I thought they understood my case and starting over would be too difficult. That misplaced trust cost me thousands of dollars and years of delay. I feel taken advantage of, disrespected, and ignored. They'll continue to bill you long after they've stopped doing anything meaningful for your case. If you ask for accountability, they'll gaslight you, dodge responsibility, and blame everything on you. And yes--they'll probably file a rebuttal to this report filled with more of the same scripted excuses they've given others. But don't take my word for it--do your own research. Read the 1-star reviews on Google. Go to Yelp, ComplaintsBoard, BBB--read the worst-rated reviews, the ones that sound exactly like this one. It's a pattern. It's not just me. Hello! I was having tax trouble and hired Larson to help, and at this point I deeply regret selecting their services. To make a very longer story short, I owed taxes and I wanted them to help me reduce my tax debt and either get on a payment plan or pay if off in one large lump sum in a timely manner. That did not happen, do yourself a favor and make a better choice than I did. Read below for my experience. 1. I was told their services would take 3 to 6 months, but it was over a year when I hired someone else because they were not doing their job. 2. They would ask for me to submit documents today and not actually look at them until 3 to 6 weeks after I turned them in. 3. I provided all documents they requested in a timely manner and they would continuously lose them and I would have to resubmit them. 4. Often I had to fill out IRS forms I was not familiar with, and no one would help me look them over to confirm I did them correctly. I would have ask someone to please help me, and they still would barely do it. 5. The second manager I had (I had two) continuously tried to charge me more money to finish the job, even though we were months outside of our time line and I had not received any of the services I paid for originally. He wouldn't even answer simple yes or no questions 6. My biggest issue is my debt was not negotiated down on my behalf and Larson did not offer a payoff "according to my tax offer" I spoke with after I hired a new company. 7. The communication was bad, they gave me no clear instruction on what to do in most cases and sometimes I would go weeks without hearing any updates. Their company also does not do a good job of communicating with each other. 8. I requested a partial refund because of my overall experience and lack of services rendered, but I was denied. They basically told me what I was saying wasn't true even though it clearly was, so I just wanted to let other know of my experience so they can make a better choice than I did. read more

On March 26, 2024, I hired Larson Tax and Randi Nix to assist with resolving my past due tax debt. I initially paid them $5,000, followed by additional payments of $3,000 on December 5, 2024, and $1,000 on March 20, 2025--bringing the total amount paid to $9,000. Throughout this time, I was repeatedly told that Larson Tax was in communication with the IRS and working on a solution to place me into an installment agreement. However, when I contacted the IRS directly in May 2025, I was informed that they had not heard from Larson Tax or any representative on my behalf since January 2025. This means that despite collecting thousands of dollars in fees after that date, Larson Tax was not actively working on my case or providing the services promised. There was no resolution or results provided by Larson Tax at any point. I ultimately had to contact the IRS myself to begin resolving the matter on my own--something I hired Larson Tax specifically to handle. Their lack of action and misrepresentation of their efforts caused unnecessary stress and delay. I feel misled and taken advantage of. They accepted substantial payments under false pretenses and failed to deliver on their commitments. I am requesting a full refund of the $9,000 paid, as the services I was promised were not provided. read more

I was initially told by Larson that they could do this, would take 3-6 months, would be a one time payment. It's been over a year, they have done nothing and are now requesting more money. They have stopped responding to my calls. This is a scam company with no semblance of humanity or customer service. No value in this company at all. read more

Horrible experience with this team. Had an issue with the tax preparer and not accurately entering the information. Asked about deductions as they were entered wrong... and they said, "I don't think it will make much of a difference, but I'll still do it." Turns out it saved me thousands of dollars. Other issues followed with this and similar answers. ---I originally used this place because of Tom Martino's recommendation. I like his referral list options and use them often, but this turned out to be a bad experience. Tried to reach out to the manager Devin and NEVER heard back from him. I was willing to give them another chance but with lack of response from even management... please find yourself a better tax preparer or accounting firm. read more

I contacted Larson to resolve tax debt with the IRS and the state of California. After collecting the initial fees of several thousand dollars I had instructed Larson to place my case on hold. They continued to contact me and the IRS creating additional fees and diminishing my account balance and the notified the IRS that I wasnt represented when the fees ran out. After collecting additional fees to get me back on board, they did the exact same thing. I am left many thousands of dollars poorer with no real resolution of my debt. They continually pushed a tax installment payment plan which did not reduce my balance owed on my taxes one cent. This is a process that is easily accomplished without spending thousands of dollars with Larson Tax Relief. Shame on you Larson. read more

I signed on with this Tax Group over 9 months ago. I paid them $6,000 over 6 months and the owner guaranteed me would be done in 6 months. The lack of this company's employees to return phone calls or send an email and not verify that email has been received or to notify you it's been downright disgusting. I have had to make numerous phone calls and I cannot count how many emails telling these people to call me text me let them know that when they email me to call or shoot me a text they will even let an email set for 4 months and not even pick up the phone. When paying them their money they took their money every month and the owner was more than happy to talk to me in the beginning. In November of last year I paid them another $1,100 to file my updated taxes to bring them current here we are in the May and my taxes have still not been filed so I have paid these people $7,100 and now over 9 months later they're wanting more money from me. I received a phone call from a Catherine or a Kathleen 6 weeks ago letting me know for the fourth time now somebody else was going to handle my case within this company because the last person Charlotte absolutely is an idiot. This woman told me that I would not be receiving a phone call until at least after tax season at that point was 4 weeks. Which means they pushed my case another 4 weeks down the road and then now they have the audacity to hit me up for more money. As of right now I do not recommend this company they are not people of their word. And if you do decide to go with this Tax Group you need to get everything in writing and that if they miss the deadline of when they say they will have everything completed that they're not going to hit you up for more money because that's exactly what is going on with me. If this company makes my case right and makes it right with me I will give them a better review than a one-star rating but as of right now they don't even deserve a one-star rating. They emailed me on a Friday and then she emailed me yesterday which was a Saturday stating that they tried to call me they needed an update on my phone numbers. My numbers have never changed but yet on Friday they were texting my girlfriend about paperwork. So this is what I mean they couldn't get or confirm phone numbers with my girlfriend we lived together she is my fiance this is what I mean by no communication and these people do not do their job in an orderly fashion they send emails and just forget about them I've been in business for 36 years I send an email I don't hear from my clients within 24 hours I call them I text him I'm not the only person that misses an email. But really people if you're a business would you send an email to a client with documents that need to be signed and not reach out for 4 months to your client this is how incompetent some of these people are. If they do not make this right with me I will be adding to this and this one star will remain a one star. If they make it right I will give them a better review but as of right now these people are absolutely horrible as far as correspondence. And make sure you get it in writing that if they going to charge you $6,000 to complete a case that's what it's going to be. I'm getting hit now for three more thousand dollars that I am not paying to these people. They are wrong and they are not conducting my case the way it should be taken care of. If they want passing my case down and kicking the can down the road I wouldn't be on my fourth worker right now. Do your job loss in financial and honorably honored the contract I have to in business. When I make a mistake I do not go back on my customers if I'm not doing my job I do not go back on my customers I don't blame them for my inability to do my job right. That's what this boils down to so I would think twice before I even thought about signing a contract with this company. read more

Larson may have been good at one time but not anymore, I hired Larson a year ago to handle my IRS tax issue, my account has been passed to 3 different Larson employees in that year and I have had to resend all documents to the second person when case was passed, no progress has been made getting my past tax returns processed to prove I paid all owed taxes with the IRS, Larson has not been able to help that process and blames the IRS that they cannot contact anyone, now the third Larson employee handling my case has sent me new "Itemized Service Fee" for continued service. Larson has not performed agreed upon work or finished any of our initial agreement and is now asking for more money.....My question is to you Larson, why would I pay again for services you failed to render in the first place? **Update: Mr Larson himself called me to discuss my case, he is taking a active interest in working with me to resolve this matter and I appreciate him contacting me and his willingness to help work through this, I will be changing my review at this time pending a final update once resolved. read more

Wow. I'm surprised to see all these negative reviews on Larson Tax Relief. I've had an excellent experience working with them. I worked directly with Michael and Nathan, and both were extremely helpful. I had an IRS mess dealing with several years of underpaid taxes. After working with another smaller group -- which I thought would be great, but ultimately was horrible -- I needed to find another group to work with. This was 10 months ago. At the time, Larson was one of the few who had almost all positive reviews and no negatives. For me these reviews are so important because we have no other way of knowing what to expect. Yes, the 2 or 3 huge national tax outfits are probably great, but they are so expensive, I just couldn't afford them. WHAT I LIKED ABOUT LARSON: Michael is a no-nonsense person. He will tell you exactly what's going on with your case, and what he can do for you. But you also have to be your own best advocate. I pushed for the Offer and Compromise option. Initially, Michael was hesitant, likely because (1) he wasn't sure I'd qualify, and (2) there are downsides to applying and not qualifying. But in the end, he and his group conducted their own Offer and Compromise analysis, and concluded that, yes, I was a good candidate. They told me exactly what to do re collecting docs, and what to expect. We filed the Offer and Compromise in March, and the IRS accepted our offer just recently a few weeks ago. I can't tell you how much of a relief this was. WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT LARSON: Larson tax services is good, but not cheap. They weren't nearly as expensive as the large national groups, but still, they're not cheap. Fortunately, Larson allowed me to make monthly payments, which helped. But in the end, I must confess that it all seemed a little expensive. That said, their results were excellent, and I'd do it all again in a heart beat. FINAL THOUGHT: If you're currently in a mess with the IRS (as I was), do yourself a favor and give Larson Tax Relief a call. Again, my experience has been limited to working with Michael and Nathan. BE ADVISED!! If you have any income or assets, the IRS is VERY unlikely to negotiate a lower tax burden. Unsure if you qualify for a reduction? The IRS website has an Offer in Compromise questionnaire that will immediately tell you if you qualify. Very simple to use. Otherwise, you need to set up a payment plan with the IRS. Also very straight forward. These guys at Larson make it sound complicated. It really isn't, and you can save yourself thousands by doing this yourself. I called Larson today to get an idea of what tricks they have up there sleeve to reduce my burden. Turns out they have none. The "advisor" that I spoke to was a real jerk once he learned that I had already set myself up with a payment agreement with the IRS. And it didn't cost me a dime. read more

I was incredibly impressed by his empathy toward those in trouble and his commitment to excellent customer service. OMG! I cannot say enough about how much this company saved my sanity. My husband and I had a failed business and owed back taxes, which I could no longer ignore/avoid. (word of advice: NEVER ignore the IRS thinking they will go away. THEY WON'T.) So we sought help from an internet tax company who took over 5000 of our hard earned dollars and accomplished NOTHING. I was so distraught, and overwhelmed and continued to stack the rainforests worth of unopened IRS letters in a deep dark corner of my house that were continually inundating my mailbox. So, after months of many tears and glasses of wine and feeling paralyzed by the whole situation, my husband found Larsen Financial. I was extremely skeptical, having been scammed once before. Ted called me, and spoke with me about a game plan, and how much it would cost/ how long it would take. He eased my nerves, and before signing an arrangement with him, I tearfully begged of him, "please don't screw me over." He replied with a sympathetic " I won't, I promise." I just got word yesterday from the IRS that they accepted our offer to settle on our tax bill for 12% of what we owed, and we have Larson Tax Relief to thank. The tax was owed as a result of our business that closed in 2009 when the housing economy went down the drain. We were in the middle of a huge construction project and the money stopped flowing but the bills and payroll were slower to stop. We never were going to get it all paid back. Working with Larson Financial/Tax Relief has been Exceptional! From the first day I contacted them, I have always felt like a valued client. They listened, were patient, and gave advice specific to my situation - not a cookie-cutter answer like other companies I had contacted. After filing my 2009 tax return, I found myself owing more money to the IRS than I made with one year's wages. The problem stemmed from a life insurance policy that I had borrowed money from over the course of a few years when I was ages 19-23. At the time I borrowed I had no idea there would be any tax liability. I just thought the money was money that my mother had paid into the policy when I was a child and now the money belonged to me and, needless to say, these were not my most responsible years and I went through some rough times on my own. In 2009 I had to cash the policy out to avoid it lapsing. By that time, a lot had happened since my ''irresponsible" years, including the birth of my daughter in 2007 which snapped my life right on track. I was working full time making about $30k/yr and going to school full time at community college in hopes of becoming a nurse. I just wanted to put the past behind me and create a better life for my family, and yet here I found myself owing over 30k to the IRS when I could barely make ends meet. When I left the tax preparer's office I felt hopeless. They had suggested I call Larson Financial. Before calling Larson, I looked them up on the BBB website and saw they had an excellent rating (which is hard to find in their field!). I called immediately tears and all and they assured me that I had a good case and somehow they would work it out. Not only was I feeling bad about the future but guilty about my past mistakes and the consultant on the phone took it down to a personal level and reminded me that we all make mistakes and he had a similar past. He reminded me that the important thing was what I was doing now, getting my life on track and facing these mistakes head on so I can get on with my life. I made an appointment and took all my information in to Larson. That is where I met Senior Associate, Mike Wallen. He further assured me that they could help and it turns out things would be better than I thought even after the phone consult. He knew just how to handle my case. He prepared and submitted and Offer in Compromise to the IRS. It was a long process, but Mike and his assistant Ashley were my only contacts every step of the way. It was more than having them share the burden, I felt that they completely took it over and I could go back and focus on my life while they dealt with the IRS. All of my calls and most e-mails came directly from Mike and anytime he was unavailable his assistant, Ashley was there to answer my questions and send me information in a moment's notice. My case was never handed off to anyone else. Mike even sat down with me one morning and prepared some missing tax returns from 2005, a time when I was mostly unemployed. He gathered all the information himself and we went over it together. Mike would contact the IRS on a regular basis to get the status of my offer and to see what they needed. He was on the ball with everything and would usually call to update me a week or two before the letters from the IRS would arrive requesting further info. We ended up owing the federal government about $18,000 and the state of CO about $7,000 due to us pulling some emergency money from retirement accounts. As soon as we realized our error before our taxes were due we knew there wasn't anyway to pay the combined taxes. We spoke to Leona at Larson Financial and hired her as our attorney. She listened to our wishes to resolve our tax debt over time and was able to set up a 9 year IRS repayment plan, and a 3 year state of CO repayment plan, without any negative "tax leans" that would destroy our credit. All has been well for the past two years thanks to the kind and knowledgeable support from Larson Financial. Then I lost my job due to severe medical disability incurred a few months ago. Leona was able to jump in and arrange a hardship discontinuation of my IRS payment for 18 months, and a reduction of my state payments. I am so grateful to Larson Financial for guiding us in our terrible time of need. They said that the IRS was even grateful for us coming forward up front with our situation and therefore gave us some leeway that is not normally done. Without Larson's support we would have lost our house and been in destitute. I can't recommend Larson enough for support if anything else then a peace of mind that there is a sunny bright light at the end of the tunnel. read more
