We went there as a large group and sat in the back. My bill was $20 before tax and $22 with tax. What's weird is they give you a check that has tip amount blank before even processing your card. I wrote in $6 tip and signed for a total of $28. My final receipt was $34. They had added another $6 without my signed permission. I guess they fail to realize that this is illegal and can be reported to the Attorney General's office. I inquired and asked about the difference and was told it was a room charge but that it would all go to the waitress. We ordered take out from Las Chalupas No2. I specifically asked for a grilled chicken quesadilla . I asked for the quesadilla WITHOUT vegetables. When I got home I had a quesadilla WITH vegetables. I called to share that the order was wrong. The employee would not agree to help and got the "manager". I am a frequent patron of this establishment. And I have NEVER been treated as poorly as I was by this manager. I was able to produce a receipt - but when I went to pick up the food they took the meal that was wrong but would not give me the replacement until I gave them an extra 1.59. I tried at deal with this in prior to leaving this review. I want local businesses to be successful - but Was shocked At how we were treated... can not imagine a manager behaves this way. I find myself in North Vernon about once a year. Each time that I visit, I hope that there's a restaurant that popped up since my last visit. This time was no different... A few places with a few reviews. Initially the address listed for this location led me astray. I don't know if it was originally in a different location or what, but I found the correct location just by driving down State Street. It looked clean and new from the outside and it was on inside. We ordered our drinks and they were brought out promptly. Then it took about 15 minutes for the waiter to come back to take our orders. I ordered the vegetable taco salad. I asked for extra guacamole and double beans instead of rice, neither request was granted and the mushrooms in the salad were canned mushrooms. About halfway through my meal, I noticed a beard like hair. I pushed it away, not to say anything about it because I didn't think my mom would have been able to eat her food. As I was sitting there, I looked down into the salad and spotted another hair, imbedded into the taco shell. I couldn't hold back any longer, and then my mom wasn't able to finish her food, just as I mentally predicted. Not only did the waiter not apologize, he smiled, almost to the point of a laugh. Really?! It's obviously not the waiter's fault when something like this happens, but he should know how to respond. In addition to getting the order requests correct. He took my meal off of the check, but the thing that was even more odd about the situation, was that he grabbed all the other plates, even though they weren't finished eating. Strange. Not impressed. My husband likes it but the last few times I have not. He finally convinced me to try it again. He gets the #57 chicken,rice and cheese everytime and always says its good. I got a shrimp taco this time and the shrimp was cold and barely grilled. I always add sour cream, tomatoes, and cheese and it just didn't have any flavor at all. My boyfriend and I ordered takeout from this Mexican restaurant. We live 7 minutes away. Anyways, he picked up the food and came straight home. We got everything situated and started eating and first, my boyfriend found a long hair in his food. We assumed it was him and kept eating. Soon after I found a hair in my mouth. You wouldn't expect to find good Mexican food in Southern Indiana, but Las Chalupas has become a tradition among our group and I don't think anyone goes home hungry or unhappy, but that could be the margaritas. It's always a good time. They tend to screw up the orders on a big table but they eventually get it sorted out and the staff is very nice. They do much better with normal sized groups. They have a nice patio and it's very pleasant to sit out there in good weather. I would definitely recommend this place. Give it a try. read more

We came here after a funeral. There were a ton of us but they seemed to have most of the things situated for our party. The food was not good but inexpensive! That night was not so great for the toilet!! After upon going the their bathroom which was not stocked at all and there was water all over the floor (hopefully it was water!) it also was very unsettling that the waiter would come fling the menus and such at us! I've been here many times with various size groups. It a decent place to hang out and grab a bite to eat or a drink. Any time I have tried to order a drink, they tell me they don't have that. I've never been to a restaurant that couldn't make a variety of alcoholic beverages. Beer, Margarita, and screw drivers seem to be the only things they serve. Most of the time when I have visited this place, the food comes out in a reasonable time and is still hot, which is always a plus. There isn't much space to wait for a table which kind of sucks when it gets busy. Waiters/waitresses have been friendly and willing to joke around. Other than that, it's a decent place to stop into. The Guadalajara Special is a real bargain that combines ground beef and shredded nachos with a tamale and 2 taquitos. At around $9 this is a great dish to share. Even if you are both starved, you probably won't be able to finish it. This would have been a 5 star rating if only they served better chips. It seems several Mexican restaurants we've visited lately are using a specific brand of chips that taste like a piece of cardboard dipped in cornmeal and then baked. The Arozz con Pollo was a gloppy cheesy mess (Arozz con Pollo has no cheese) and the refried beans were both over cooked and crusty. Wow?!? That's really all I can say. I walked into this restaurant about 8:30. They do not close until 10. The place was moderately busy, so being by myself, I sat at the bar. It took nearly 10 minutes to even get noticed, then I got a "we will be with you in a min." 10 minutes later I had to ask to order a drink, as I saw the chips and salsa girl walk by me for the 4th time to service tables, but not the bar. A server brought me the Margarita I was able to order finally and asked if I needed anything. I advised some chips and salsa would've been nice to start. Never received an acknowledgment, Nor did he EVER come back! I waited another 10 minutes, wasted away almost an entire margarita and left this place. So ridiculous.
