The review is for the actual caves that we toured (separate from the bar/restaurant). The entry was $50 Mexican pesos altogether. You pay at the entrance and obtain a ticket to turn in at the check in.
We were greeted by a lady that took our ticket and gave us a welcome shot of tequila, Amatitena Reposado. It was a nice gesture and the reception area had some souvenirs and other bottles of tequila for sale onsite. In order to try these items, you'd need to check out the above bar/restaurant when open.
In any case, the tour guide explained that the water and agave played a part in this item that was produced in the area.
After we got checked in, they issued hard hats since the cave does have low clearance points and was more for preventative measures. We took a tour of the spots that were accessible by foot and limited water (two cave areas) and explanations were made about the importance of water to the town and how it was tied to religious and political and monetary sources.
We also got to take multiple photos (for every photo opp, the guide was willing to snap a picture or provide additional lighting).
All in all, nice for a short tour, approx 15-20 min. It gave a brief highlight about the town and the importance of the water for the people. She did segue into how the caves were tied to other properties and that the water was multi use for whomever had access to it.
Honestly the tour was worth the money. And the plug for the restaurant wasn't without merit. We visited the restaurant the other night and the quality is well worth it.
The tour is definitely worth it and the tour guide knowledgeable. We ended up leaving a nice tip since we had a great time. Worth checking out if you're in the area. read more
