Carne guisada combo plate
R S.

Visited this place while in town with family. It is a small restaurant and gets pretty loud during busy hours(lunch, dinner). Ordered the carne guisada combo lunch, it included rice, beans, taco and two enchiladas with pan de campo. Overall it was good with the guisada and the enchiladas being the best of the dish. The pan de campo is a griddle fried bread that is good, but some people may think it's a little to oily/greasy. This is a good place for a seat down meal that's visited by a lot of the local residents but expect it to be loud.

Local atmosphere with a very responsive and friendly staff. Be prepared to feast! Every meal is equipped with enough extra curricular items to feed the family for days. I had the Molè with beans and corn tortillas. Came with 3 pieces of chicken! My guest had the meatloaf special that came with 2lbs of meat! Plus toast, baked potato and a side of corn. All items were exquisite! Local and fresh to say the least.

Menu

Great food and fast service! It's also BYOB. The water is RO filtered as well! We had the Mexican plate, steak fingers, fried chicken and pecan pie. Everything was homemade and came out hot. We will be back a lot.

Pollo con Calabaza. Chicken and squash plate with a side of rice and beans.

I've been here a handful of times…read more Visit 1: carne guisada plate ordered through the drive-thru, delicious and love convenience. Visit 2: dined in and ordered carne asada plate, delicious. Visit 3: got breakfast thru the drive thru, chilaquiles with egg mixed in, no salsa ranchera They made the corn tortilla chips very soggy and there were ONIONS which I do not like and which was not disclosed, only ate a quarter or the top layer of the plate. Visit 4: was sick with vomiting so got tortilla soup. Chicken was cooked but not tenderized. I liked the one from Cancun's better. Visit 5: brought hubby here. He commented that carne guisada was overcooked, I tasted and agreed. I put this place to the true test by ordering menudo... and they failed. Menudo tasted like they didn't wash tripas after parboiling them. Each bite was initially good follow up by an uncomfortable, dirty aftertaste. My verdict: not bad, just mid. Maybe some issues with quality control. I'll be back to try the seafood though.

I mean the steak was well done but yet juicy almost impossible to do. The enchiladas were flavorful and stuffed with chicken. Pro tip don't forget to ask about their sauce selection it really elevates any dish

I'm parked across the street doing my reset, and this is one of my favorite truck stops when I'm…read moregoing to Laredo, so I decided to walk across and have supper last night.. They also have truck parking next to the restaurant that not a lot of people realize. I walked in and was greeted immediately by very nice and professional staff. But of course if you know me, you know I chose to sit at the bar. They were playing some soccer game on the TV. I don't watch sports so doesn't matter to me what's on the TV. My bartender greeted me IMMEDIATELY and took my drink order, and gave me a menu. This guy was on his game! Very attentive, engaged in banter. Couldn't be happier with my bar experience all together. I'm on a no-carb kick, so It can be challenging sometimes to find carb-free options at Mexican restaurants, since all the good stuff and fun stuff to eat like tortillas, rice, beans, and other fried dishes are plentiful. But I noticed they had a Molcajete! (For those don't know what that is, it's essentially a bowl carved out of volcano rock, and then heated up with various meats and other ingredients, served SUPER HOT). My molcajete came with pretty good size shrimp, beef, chicken, couple slices of mozzarella type cheese, pico and other stuff in the bottom. The bartender asked me if I wanted to substitute my rice and beans for avocado and pico, which I did. I ate my avocado and put the pico into my molcajete. I am a faithful consumer of tajin, and tapatio. BUT They didn't have tap! They only have Cholula. The bartender told me he keeps requesting it, but never gets it, so cholulah it was. My molcajete was super hot, boiling like it should be, really flavorful. All together really good. I did notice The Rock wasn't as deep as other Mexican restaurants I've been to that served it, and didn't have a couple other little things in it that other Mexican restaurants too, but it was still good nonetheless and a perfect portion size for me. I didn't realize they close at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday because I planned on having supper there again tonight, so I will be stopping in the next time I come down to this part of Texas! Thank you Taqueria Jalisco! Maybe next time I'll have a cheat day and eat something carby! I ordered the chorizo quesadilla, and the portion size was massive, the plate was so huge that I even had leftovers to take with me. The food was absolutely delicious, and they even had something for my vegan sister to eat, too. On top of that, the staff was perfect and welcoming, and the bathroom was incredibly clean. We loved everything about our visit and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!
