I love Mexican food and I'm 1/4 Mexican. This place has been around since 1976 so if I'm a bit…read moreharsh it's because they should know better. I checked Yelp but I neglected to sort by date. Some of the best reviews were many years ago. I ordered the chile verde burrito, wet, and my girlfriend ordered the fish taco Friday special. Chile verde has different sized pork chunks in a delicious green sauce but the meat was inconsistent in size with most pieces being rock hard, or fat/gristle. No pieces were tender. Chile verde should be tender. I can make better Chile verde in an Instant Pot with pork shoulder and a jar of Herdez green salsa. I trim my meat well though. No surprises. The fish tacos were attractive. They resembled fish sticks though. They had a bread crumb coating, were cooked earlier, and reheated before putting in the taco shell. Not beer batter fried aka Baja style. The taco shells were soft yellow corn tortillas with the texture of flour tortillas. These tortillas were really good! Avocado and fresh cilantro was a nice touch. No special fish taco sauce was used, but might improve the fish sticks. Rice was a solid hit for both of us. We make it like this at home with shrimp/tomato bouillon. The beans were ok. I ended up "returning" the inedible chile verde and they dutifully replaced it with a different burrito. The service was 5/5. The place itself is clean and neat and spacious. No complaints there.

There was a lot going on in town, which was shocking but we also came out of the park earlier than we normally do, but amazing enough Casa Mendoza wasn't very busy and we got seated immediately, and we just had the best server that we've ever had there, she was so polite and friendly and crazy efficient with our orders and getting them back to us asap. I didn't wanna fill up on beans and rice so I just went with an à la carte of three crispy tacos, and a tamale. I told her to put them all on one plate when they came out looking like the best à la carte plate I've ever seen; almost as if it was a menu item unto itself. Everything just had so much flavor, and the tamale is definitely in the top two of best tamales I've ever had. We will continue to come here after our Sequoia adventures for hopefully many more years to come

The chips were lightly seasoned and the salsa was flavorful. The kids had a good amount of options for food which is nice, other restaurants maybe have 3 or 4. The adult portions were huge! I had the carne and shrimp burrito and the shrimp were big. I didn't know they made burritos that big anymore. We definitely would like to come back next time we're in town

Highlights: 1. Chicken burrito is "best ever"…read more2. Staff is very friendly and provide great service 3. Super clean restaurant My family went here last night after getting back from Kings Canyon. My immediate reaction walking in was that the restaurant is super clean and the staff were very kind and attentive. Our server brought chips and salsa to the table for us right away. They have a nice selection of Jarritos drinks and great horchata which comes in a large portion. The food was AMAZING! I ordered a chicken burrito and my dad ordered their quesa birria. We split the two and both were great! My dad said it was the best burrito he's ever had. I loved it too. It was standard in ingredients but excellent in taste. The quesa birria was also great. It was crispy and had a great portion of tender meat inside. My mom ordered enchiladas which she liked! She noted they came with potatoes on top and the red sauce you think of with enchiladas was cooked into the tortilla. Though, they have red sauce as an addition on the menu for $1.99, so I'm sure they would be happy to add it if that's what you are looking for. The food was reasonably fast, very hot, and delicious. They bring out three sauces: a green creamy sauce, a deep red sauce, and a bright red sauce. The first two mentioned are spicy and I loved the green sauce! I didn't try the deep red sauce but my dad says he didn't think it was too hot. The neighborhood the restaurant is in is good. It is near a nice residential neighborhood and across from a liquor store and other restaurant. There were very nice cars parked throughout the area and we did not encounter any issues at all! It is populated as the restaurant seems to get many takeout and Doordash orders. I think you can consider yourself reasonably safe here! This place gets my recommendation! We are headed home today but if we weren't, we would be coming back to El San Marcos tonight!
