Back at this place as we are on our way to LA. We called it in and ordered to go. Bought six tacos. We were in and out. My kids' favorite taco place. They finished the tacos in the car quite fast.

Holy GAS (no pun intended; this place is in gas station). BUT OH MA GAWDDD. Tacos were juicy, seasoned well, and inexpensive. Do yourself a favor and get the adobada tacos. Underrated gem and worth the stop for sure!!!!

How did I never know about this place until last week? Thanks, Yelpers, for turning me on to the Kettleman City Market, Sinclair gas, and the taqueria inside it. I have a special place in my heart for stellar gas station eats, especially when it saves me from having to stand in line at McDonald's or In-N-Out. I saw the crowds when I did the Bay Area to SoCal drive for Thanksgiving and immediately drove another mile into town for gas that was $2 cheaper per gallon and some of the best carnitas (and chile verde) and al pastor tacos ever. Sadly, the grilled chicken they're famous for is only available Thursday-Sunday, but maybe next time. Bonus: the bathroom is clean and there's no wait (unlike at the Chevron).

We stopped there on our way to San Jose. We ordered breakfast burrito( not pictured) it was good. On our way back we stopped there to order a Chili Verde Burrito. That was delicious.

Chile Verde Wet Burrito--so good and huge!

This is a great spot to grab a quick bite in Kettleman City while avoiding the super busy areas right next to the highway. It's a simple, no-frills place with some absolutely incredible food. Parking was easy in the gas station's lot, and the restaurant was tucked inside the gas station market. Seriously, this was one of the best wet burritos I ever had. I got it with Chile Verde, and it was out of this world. The pork was so juicy, and the green sauce was so flavorful. I also had plenty of leftovers too--I swear I think the container weighed about 2 pounds! Everything was made fresh to order as well, and the staff were very kind and generous. Definitely consider coming to Mi Ranchito Taqueria if you're in the area! You can get gas, pick up some snacks for the road, and have a great meal all in the same place!

    Carnitas, chile verde tacos

Totally legit carnitas and Chile Verde tacos. My son said his carnitas burrito supreme was very good. (That truly means a lot!) We hit taco Tuesday, $1.25 each. A lucky break- if you check out the pictures you can see the meat loaded taco goodness. Note- they are the small tacos, but filled to the brim with super yum factor! Total bill under $12. Drive the extra three minutes in to Kettleman and it's inside the Sinclair gas market. Then thank yourself very much :)

Asada quesadilla and asada plate About $20

From LA, I needed a place to stop for food, stretch legs and get gas. Gas price was average, so not too low and not too high. Food was awesome, my husband said this was the best asada quesadilla he had. I got the asada, rice and bean plate and shared it was my 2 year old (she liked the rice and avocado while watching Blippi). For those two food items, we paid $20ish. This place is located in the grocery store. Bathrooms are clean. Coffee is available and all kinds of snacks from Cheetos, Snickers, ice cream and Hispanic snacks. Refrigerated drinks are available too. I could knock off a star because we got a $4 cold brew in a bottle, but we noticed the cap didn't pop, so we went to Starbucks which was on the way to the 5 freeway. Overall, fast service and looks like a MYOB place, a place which I like.

Pastor tacos with beans and rice

Loved this place! Just a little restaurant inside a market and gas station right off of freeway 41. I ordered to pastor tacos with beans rice and it was awesome. Great flavor! My brother in law order the Tripa tacos which he said were not over seasoned, had a good texture and a little of that poop shoot flavor that you get when eating intestines. He thought it was great. To each their own I suppose.

I've been interested in eating here for about a year. For about a year, we have been making Dunkin Donuts our mid-point stop on our way to the beach. Both to and from. That's because we always bring our dog with us. Plus my youngest always needs to "go" before we reach our destination.. Idk why I posted only this, but there's much more to talk about. Today, we pushed ourselves further than we should have and are in desperate need of food. The majority want Mexican, so I suggest Chalio's. There are other Mexican restaurants, but this one is in the main area and looks the most maintained. Looks can be deceiving though. Maybe at one time this was a decent sit down restaurant. Now it looks pretty run down. The restrooms are the most telling. I don't think anyone really cleans them. Probably just restocks them. The trash cans were overfilled, and the menu has also been taken over by bright paper covering old menu items and advertising new. Considering the size of Kettleman, this is par for the course, sadly. But the food. The food is great. We got the birria tacos and asada fries because they were out of nachos. What was supposed to be a quick to-go stop turned into a sit down because the kids asada fries took so long. I didn't mind. I was driving and needed time to eat. The birria tacos themselves were just OK in my opinion. Nothing a few squeezes of lemon wouldn't fix. But my friend from Ghana who traveled with us was blown away. He got the regular tacos, which have become his favorite food here in California. I guess if you've never had birria tacos before, these would be good. His eyes widened from his one bite, so it looked like he was experiencing something spiritual lol. If you're looking for clean restrooms and good Mexican food, park at Dunkin, do what you need to do, and walk over

They even have an ice cream shop, which is a nice bonus. The place is definitely showing its age, though. It looks pretty run down and about half the games and machines seem to be out of order. It's got a little less "Wild West attraction" and a little more "Wild West went out of business." The beer selection? Let's just say you won't get overwhelmed by choices. Then came the BBQ... somebody needs to check on that tri-tip because that thing was THIRSTY. Dry as hell and not much going on flavor-wise. Bring water for yourself AND the tri-tip. And the coleslaw... WHERE WAS IT?! I opened the container expecting coleslaw and got what looked like a tiny cabbage salad that had lost its will to live. No creaminess, barely any flavor, just a few vegetables having a meeting. The crispy fries actually showed up ready to work. Probably the MVP of the meal. Overall, it's a cool tourist stop with a lot to see, an ice cream shop, and a fun Wild West vibe. Stay for the fries and ice cream--just don't expect all the games to work or the tri-tip to have any moisture left in it.

The chorizo ended up tasting burnt, likely because she was managing several orders at once and left it on the cooktop too long. Overall, not the best experience.
