With a big goal of shopping local this holiday season, I stopped by their market on the Sunday after Black Friday to support shopping small businesses. I always love the vendors they have and got a good amount of holiday shopping done. Some of my favorite vendors this time around were Hailey Pancakes, Gypset Co, and the Slip-not headband company. If you get the chance to get Hailey's macarons, do it! She had amazing flavors like coquito (so gooooood) and strawberry cheesecake. They were true to flavor and not overly sweet. Gypset Co has beautiful dainty & minimal jewelry for you best gal friends. I am OBSESSED with Slip-not's headbands. The material is so soft and she has a variety of colors and patterns. There were so many vendors to show love to and buy from! I definitely recommend checking the Flamingo Flea at their next event, wherever that may be. What a great way to support local and get unique gifts this holiday season!

It was developed and promoted by American Express as a way to encourage small business holiday shopping. The event is held on the last Saturday in November and Small Business Saturday has now spread world wide. To celebrate small business in the City of Oakland Park they held a Local Makers Market in the street in front of City Hall and heading south. It was like an Etsy shopping experience in person. The event included 40 small businesses and artisans, local food and drinks, a petting zoo, pet adoptions, face painting, and music. The weather was perfect for this kind of outdoor event. It was in the low 70's which is a gift for those of us living in South Florida. I really enjoyed the variety of items to shop from. There were holiday ornaments, clothing, accessories, candles, art, flower, plants, and candy. In addition to all of the tent vendors, this event also gave me the chance to check out some of the businesses located here that I have always been curious about. Shopping for one of a kind items while supporting small businesses is a great way to kick off the holiday shopping season.

I follow them on Instagram to stay updated on where their markets will be next. They also feature vendors ahead of time, which is great for both customers and the vendors. They rotate locations throughout Fort Lauderdale, which keeps things interesting. They also incorporate fun themes and events like ladies nights on Wednesdays and yoga on Sundays, along with other special events. I usually attend their markets at Huizenga Park, and it's the perfect setup. There's a great variety of vendors, especially on a sunny Sunday, and the location itself is ideal. They're there every other weekend, which is awesome. I've been three times now. While there are a few returning vendors who are my favorites, I also get to discover new ones each time and try new things. Highly recommend checking them out. These markets are awesome!

Since 2023 it has been run solely by the last remaining founder, Nicole White. The Sunny Side Market stages artisan markets and other events like Yoga and Mimosas around Ft. Lauderdale. Entry to their events is always free. You can see the listing of future event dates on their website. I finally caught up wit the market at the grand reopening of Huizenga Park. The next market in this park will be on Sunday, February 8th. I love exploring local maker markets and this one had so many cute things. The beautiful new layout of the park was the perfect spot for all of the vendor tents. Some of the items that caught my eye were the baked goods, produce, Soul Bloom earrings, jam, crochet plushies, Blooming Signature Lattes, plants, a fresh flower bar, clothing, and pasture raised meat and eggs, There was live music, a food truck, families with children, and a lot of dogs. The weather was gorgeous making it the perfect day to shop local. If you like unique items and supporting small businesses, I highly recommend you check out the next Sunny Side Up Market.

However, there were a few food trucks with reasonable prices and I appreciated that. We ended up a pork belly skewer from Karukisoba which was delicious and we also enjoyed some delicious fresh pressed sugar cane and watermelon drink. Obviously being fresh sugar cane it was on the sweet side but it was also very refreshing. There were a few vendors selling things like baked goods but other than that there wasn't much of a variety of things being sold. I've been to this market a few times since my move to Florida and it's always been a good time. We heard a rumor that there was a Guyanese Chinese truck here that tasted like the real thing! Obviously we had to check it out. The rumor was correct! The chicken fried rice and lo mein were chiefs kiss! Perfect reminder of home. Sadly, we went a little too early last night and they weren't there yet. Other than the Guyanese food, there's a variety of cuisines to choose from. Something for everyone, from savory to sweet. There is usually live music or a DJ from around 7pm. This market is a great midweek wind down with great good. FYI, this is an alcohol free zone.

If you want to learn how to grow a particular plant in your yard, this is the place that can show you how without the use of chemicals and pesticides. Volunteers can expect to work 3 hours, with two 15 min breaks. You will need to bring your own drinks and snacks. No alcohol or smoking allowed. You WILL get dirty! Expect to kneel on the ground and get muddy knees, and dirty hands. They will provide gloves and basic tools. Highly recommend you bring a hat, sun screen, and bug repellent. If you drive to the Patch, I would also highly recommend bringing a towel per person for the car. You will get dirty and may not wish to sit in your car with a muddy backside. This is a rewarding experience, very calming, and great for kids (I would say 10+ so long as they are well behaved as running around and general horseplay is not tolerated or appreciated). Dania Beach Patch does sell what it grows to the public. Their tiny market is open Mon-Sat 8a to 10a. Everything is fresh (obviously!). I'm very happy with everything I have purchased.
