Stopped by this morning to let my dogs run around. The grass was perfect. Soft and green. Both the park and dog park are what a neighborhood park should look like. Last time I went to this dog park, maybe six months ago it was completely gated up and said "closed due to Covid" on a old piece of paper that was practically shredded up by the nature elements. The dog park looked nice, and seemed to be in the shade, but I wish somebody would have updated their yelp page or perhaps said this was closed. I too, have neglected to write a review until I thought about it right now. Lol I hope nobody else makes the same mistake we did with our two huskies. We cannot take them off leash, since they are incredibly curious and would run away without looking back! Lol The park itself; it's beautiful! Great trees and beautiful grassy open areas with a fun playground and even on old fashion concrete slide for children to use cardboard to slide down! I would give the park itself five stars!! ANY WOMAN CAN BE A MOTHER, BUT IT TAKES SOMEONE SPECIAL TO BE A HUSKY MOM. Not that it's obvious or anything, but my s/o and I recently decided to grow our little furry family and rescued a 1.5 year old husky back in May. Adjustment to having a 13 y/o Shih Tzu and a 1.5 y/o husky in our lives has been very interesting to say the least, but in all the best ways possible. One thing I, at least, am not used to is having to become a more active dog mom. Having a 13 y/o dog, you realize too much activity could be more detrimental to them than without. And with that, rarely would take Kiwi to the dog park as she no longer has the energy to last nearly that long, unlike years ago (RE: my 9/2014 review here- https://www.yelp.com/biz/foster-city-dog-park-foster-city). Since rescuing Shadow, we already accepted the fact that we would need to take him out to parks/outdoor areas as often as possible, so we can get get him to socialize with other dogs. I found out about Las Palmas Dog Park mainly through a referral by a friend who happens to also be a husky owner. Long story short, he basically told me that there was a big group of Husky owners who frequently goes to this park. That alone took our interest. We thought, moar huskos to play with our husko puppers? Why the heck not! So we eventually decided to check it out. First impression: Las Palmas alone is a HUGE park, and the dog park only takes up a small segment of it. Huge win? The dog park is right next to a small parking lot on the side of the park. No need to walk the entire park in order to look for the dog park. Once you reach the dog park, you will notice the dog park area is pretty large in size. There is a section for small dogs and another section for large dogs. The small dog section, mostly if not all, is shaded under a bunch of large trees, whereas the large dog area is partly shaded/non-shaded. This works to our benefit when you absolutely need to take your dog out during a heatwave. There was one day when we decided to take both dogs to this dog park on a hot day, and the small dog section was completely empty, and therefore was able to have both of our dogs run around in the small dog/shaded area. It was definitely tolerable and a perfect way to get the dogs out for a stretch. Since we live a bit far from this area, we haven't got the chance to come here when there were bigger husky groups, mainly on weekdays around 5-7p, which is still a bit early for us. Overall, we highly recommend this dog park to any dog owners, not just husky owners, for your doggo exercising/socializing needs! +Due to global pandemic, face mask/covering is REQUIRED entire time you are at dog park. This is one of my favorite dog parks in the area. It has grassy areas, and dirt areas. There is a trash can and pooper scoopers, so you don't really need poop bags, and there is a 'take a bag, leave a bag' box, but it usually seems empty. I personally like to bring my own poop bags~ less touching stuff~ even though I carry my mini sanitizer in my dog bag because I touch the dog bowls, toys, fence etc. There's fresh water for the dogs here, and some big, and small sized stainless steel dog bowls. There's a few trees, and a few benches as well as 1 table. There's a restroom a short walk across the way, They close the dog park area gates at 8pm. If you're already inside you can stay in, but no one one can get in unless you let them in after 8pm. There are 2 off leash areas- 1 for big, and 1 for small dogs. There are some super cute dogs that come here on the regular, and one I'm particularly fond of as he likes to chase the entire length of the fence all the bicyclists that go by- it's super cute. read more

This review is to make everyone aware of an aggressive dog that an owner brought into the small dog side yesterday (7-11-2019) and attacked my dog and myself. The dog seemed to be half Shiba Inu and Half Pomeranian. This dog came up to my dog (unprovoked by my dog), sniffed him, and then started to violently attack him. I had to step in and grab my dog to remove him, while this dog continued to jump at me and ended up biting my arm. We have been coming to the park for a few weeks now and most of the owners are regulars that supervise their dogs very well. However, this is the first time I have seen this owner come to this park. She left really fast before I was able to calm down and get her information. She didn't even apologize, or check that I was ok or if my dog was ok. She was on her phone the entire time (from entering the dog park and being in the dog park) and didn't manage her dog. Luckily my vet checked my dog and he's ok - just on painkillers and antibiotics. I was able to get a tetanus shot and antibiotics specifically for dog bites. read more

This is a fantastic dog park - despite what some of the smaller dog parents seem to have to say. There are two sections - smaller and larger dogs. Larger dogs have no problem making room for everyone. A great group of owners, and for the most part everyone gets along. There are a few pups that occasionally need coaching. And some owners that don't know how to behave as well - but that's on the owners. I'd like to respond to Brendan R's particularly nasty comment posted on 12/29/20 about "Callie" because I know Cali's story. She was a rescue dog, terrified of people and she started coming out of her shell at Las Palmas. The first few days the other owners at the park took the time to help shepherd Cali into the shoot so she could be leashed to go home. Running free at the park was the first time she relaxed. One day she jumped over the fence (squirrel!) and she was a sight to behold. Yes, the owners and many others laughed about it because a dog park is supposed to be fun where the dogs run, play, jump, and wrestle. At Las Palmas most of the owners - at least on the big dog side - like to interact with all the dogs and it does become like a giant pack. Cali's owners would bring her back to the big dog side after jumping so I'm not sure why Brendan was still so upset 9 months after she could have had any interaction with him. Cali was a visitor of Las Palmas for only a short 3-month time period because she was struck and killed by a car when the park closed for Covid in March 2020. Many of the owners reached out with condolences. With everything else going on in the past year for this guy to take the time and post a nasty review about the owners and their huskies 9 months after any actual encounter really says a lot about his character. And for what's it's worth - the pack of huskies he refers to are only there for about an hour each day - it's just there are a lot of huskies at the park. And the pack included more than huskies - the pack included Henry, a golden retriever, and Woodrow, a football-player-look-a-like mutt with his small head compared to the rest of his body, and many others. Don't let Brendan's distorted view stop new visitors from checking out the park for themselves. Thanks for taking a fun memory of a dog who had a bit of a rough life enjoying herself and tarnishing it with your drama. Instead of staying an outsider, how about introducing yourself so you can get to know other people at the dogpark - they really can be a friendly and helpful group - no matter the breed. We recently met some newer to the park people the other day who were talking about how they hoped to see Cali and her jumps - only I had to let them know Cali had passed. It's nice to know she is remembered so fondly by many others. Just like many other big dogs who have passed away are also remembered - like Zeke who liked to chase bike riders (the only time you ever saw him move) or Blue who had a fondness for the boys. Las Palmas can get to be like a family reunion, where everyone at least knows your pup's name. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is sometimes the park can get pretty muddy on the big dog side, and it closes down inopportunely. read more

My dog had a blast!!! But came home with such dirty, gross paws. We went to the small dog area, which was 80% grass and 20% dirt. Unfortunately, the grass was a bit wet, so when my dog went on the dirt, his paws just picked it all up. Aside from the dirt, which I wasn't a fan of, the long stretch of grass was nice for fetch! And it was nice that there was a water fountain with a big water bowl. Next to the trash can, there were some pooper scoopers, rakes, and other potentially handy tools. The one kinda weird part that didn't make sense to me was a boxy container that hung from the fence which said something like "Take a bag, leave a bag." Wouldn't you only take a poop bag if you didn't have a bag... Soooo how do you leave a bag you don't have??? I probably wouldn't come back on my own, but if my friends wanted to bring their dogs here for a playdate, I would be willing to come back! read more

In general, this park is fantastic: a lot of green space, good walks, and sports areas. Parking usually is full but you can find space on nearby streets and walk. The dog park is good. There is a dog run for large dogs which is unfortunately all dirt! It has lots of space to play off leash, but is pretty much just for running and fetch. The small dog park is a lot nicer (limit 25 lbs). Has grassy areas and some trees for dogs to sniff and wander. Dog owners are usually nice here. However, sometimes rude spectators will sit in the entry/exit making it hard to distance during covid! I've also seen people bring their big dogs into the small dog park. I think I came here when all the construction is done but it a really nice park for dogs to play and run far. Tons of grass area and the non grass areas has benches and 1 table with an umbrella for owners to relax and watch their dogs. No bags but they have pooper scoopers! Took my dog here after we wrapped up his first two months of socialization classes. I love that there are separate sides for larger and smaller dogs. The only downside here would literally be people- if you go right after work around 5-6p it's just trouble. So many irresponsible inattentive owners. After 6:30 I've had better luck and the owners are monitoring their dogs behavior. You often have folks who bring their kids or reactive dogs which is just problematic when there are more social dogs or dogs who don't like kids. Just be aware as many parents who do bring their kids aren't actively teaching them how to interact with the dogs there OR the people who just stand in the entry watching the dogs. You cannot let your guard down but that's true of any dog park. read more

Beware from 3-6pm. There is a group of husky owners that their dogs and the owners believe they own the park. Huskies are naturally pack animals and they are the pack that own the park and their owners believe the same. The dogs pick fights with other dogs and their owners stand behind them because you are the outsider. Their dog Callie hops the fence to the little dog section and the owners laugh about it. I'm on my way walking to Sunnyvale Tennis Center from my house 10 minutes away, just as I have done multiple times each week for the past 26 years. I pass by a small parking lot at the end of Spinosa, which holds maybe 39 vehicles, many filled with pickups, vans, and suvs -older vehicles with lots of room for a dog. Nobody rides to a dog park with a new vehicle! This is still day light saving time, so it is still day light when I pass by the Las Palmas dog park. The park has a daytime sensor on the locked gate, and is only open during daytime hours, so as not to bother the adjacent home neighbors with barking dogs at night! You know you are near dog park without even looking up, as the place smells bad -just like the first thing in the morning at work where all the senior women go number 2 in the unisex bathroom next to my cubicle! And I can image how bad it smells in the backyards of the adjacent downwind homes. Unknowingly for those homeowners, their houses were built in 1995, before dog park was created. There goes your home values! I don't look at the dogs very much, as my attention is on the adjacent sidewalk pathways. Everyone walks around here looking down, just like in dog friendly Carmel, making sure they don't step in you know what! The sidewalk right next to the dog park entrance is always wet, with dog owners washing down their dogs, as the dogs have been rolling in the dirt, and digging holes in the dirt, and need to be cleaned. And judging from the grubby appearance and smell of some of the owners, they could better use the hose on themselves! The dog park was originally grass in the late 1990s. However grass and dogs don't mix, just like me and my ex! It only took a year or two for the dogs to tear up all the grass. Now it is all dirt and sand, the latter to prevent the place from becoming a mud bowl after a rain! The dogs go into a frenzy as I walk right next to the fence, and rush up to me, going wild as they sniff the fur and scents of my two cats on my tennis socks and shorts. There is a sign that say no dogs in heat! This is a family park, and no x-rated activities allowed, even for dogs! At the end of the tennis match on courts 13,14, and 15 at the adjacent Sunnyvale Tennis Center, we tennis players will aim our excess tennis balls into the dusk right into dog park, a sure way of causing the dogs to go into a frenzy! And we always wait until the end of the match, so that the next players on the court get all the rejected tennis balls tossed back from dog park!. Night time, after my tennis match, I walk back on the pathway adjacent to dog park. Fortunately it is well lit, as I am looking downward for dark spots on the sidewalk! They have closed dog park for renovations in September 2014, but have set up a temporary dog park with fences on the grass area of las palmas park. They have one area for small dogs, and another fenced area for small and large dogs -just like parking lots with spots for compact vehicles, and other spots for everyone! And no real man would own a tiny Taco Bell dog! Already areas of the green grass have been torn up by the dogs, and other areas turned yellow from the dog piss. I used to be a dog trainer, and because of that, I have met SEVERAL dog owners and have come across the idea of dog parks. I enjoy the idea behind dog parks! It is a great way to socialize your dogs with both; people and other dogs. There are several different types of breeds of dogs that go to this dog park too, which is really nice! However, sometimes, there are those people that just let their dogs do whatever they want, I'll vent about that later. Let's talk about the dog park first! This dog park as a whole is ok. It's nothing fantastic. I'll talk about the good first. As stated earlier, there is a variety of dogs which is nice! Different sizes, and breeds! It's a win-win for everyone. The dog park itself is actually pretty big for the location. Since it is in a suburban neighborhood, it is actually a nice location, and it's also big, which is nice for like herding or high energy dogs. There are also some toys there, which people do respectfully leave there (which is great!). There are also doggy bags to get rid of when your dog goes potty. The gates that surround the park are also pretty solid. There is also water there for our kids to to consume. In the evening, when the sun starts to set, it is actually really pretty there. Now on to the cons. I don't particularly like how the surface of this park's ground consists of dirt, it is really rough on our dogs' pads especially when they run :/ Grass or rubber would be really nice. My other complaint is the parking, it is a very small lot, and it is a struggle sometimes to find good parking. Lastly, my last complaint which isn't the park's fault, is the people. This doesn't go out to all the people, so consider this more of a tip or advice. If your dog goes to the bathroom, PLEASE clean it up. Diseases can thrive on stuff like that, and I don't want my dog, or anyone elses dog to get sick. If your dog has an issue with other dogs or people; I am very understanding about this issue, I know not every dog is comfortable with other dogs, or even people sometimes. What I would reccomend is to monitor your dog closely, also warn the other people about the issue. As a pet parent, I respect people that come to me and are honest with their dogs issues. The park is easily assessable with plenty of shade and seats for the humans. Grassy patch is nice and maintained with non of those crazy fox tails. The park did not reek of urine which is a good indicator that the city does routine upkeep of the park. Plenty of scoopers available for the human to grab the poop. Water fountain is available. We were really excited about the small dog park until my dog saw a squirrel through the gate and GOT HER HEAD STUCK!!!! The park tried to fix the huge gap under the gate by attaching 2 pieces of wood but left about 2 inches too much room on both sides... Just enough space for my dog to stick her head through, so when she raised her head, she totally freaked out because she couldn't pull her head out! Seriously dangerous!!!!!! We really like this park especially because of the double gates at the entrance and the whole dog park is fenced in. Most of the dog parents are nice and ,most of the dogs are well behaved. A couple draw backs but not enough to keep us away. They tend to close every time it rains, or when they've had an unusual off-season downpour b/c of drainage. The park is closed every Wednesday for "cleaning " until 2pm yet we've yet to see anyone working on those days... Finn gives it 4 paws up! WOOF! read more

This is the worst dog park I've visited in the Bay Area. It is decent size and fully fenced, and there is fresh water available. However, the fenced area is hot and dirty, and there is no grass. When dogs are running, there is so much dust in the air you can't breath, and our dog comes home filthy. The park is poorly maintained. Stopped by this dog park yesterday when I was in Sunnyvale. I base my reviews mostly on the happiness of my dogs while they are there! My dog, Olive Bean, had so much fun. She was racing from one end to the next the entire time we were there. My other dog Chester was having a little fun but he is generally very nervous around other dogs. He got grumpy with a big black lab but that's his problem. All the people that were there were pretty nice. One guy picked my medium sized pointer up and carried her across the park which I thought was a little weird. Especially since he had no idea if she was an aggressive dog. She isn't but a lot of dogs don't like being picked up like that. The park is pretty dusty but for me that's not a big deal. I always expect to get a little dirty at the dog park. There's a group of regulars who don't hold themselves to the same rules they keep others at. If you have an aggressive dog, leave! Around 5 is the time where a group of aggressive "regulars" comes through, but at other times there is a lot of space to play and run. This park also closes too regularly. I've always thought that Sunnyvale had the most beautiful and best maintained parks in Santa Clara County. Las Palmas Park is definitely a beautiful place. The water feature that is located near the children's playground is awesome - I have fond memories of bringing my children here when they were young on hot summer days to cool off. The dog park is a disappointment. A big enclosed dirt area with weeds and muddy areas. Other dog parks provide poo bags to encourage the owners to clean up after their pooches - but not here. The sign on the bag dispenser says "take a bag, leave a bag" - but it was empty. I noticed that there was some dog poo left around - yuck. The dog owners and their dogs were nice. There are not separate big dog and little dog areas - so my little maltese-poodle got to gallivant around with a mastiff. Thankfully she didn't get slobbered! In as much as I love Las Palmas Park - I think I'll be considering visiting another dog park in the Santa Clara County before coming here. read more

First time at this dog park and it was quite nice! There's a parking lot right next to this dog park, which is super convenient. Two sections to this dog park, one for all dogs and one for small dogs only. The "all dogs" section is bigger and wraps around the small dog area. Being connected to an actual park is also nice - I would definitely want to walk my dog around on leash on another occasion (he loves to sniff anything and everything at new places). Inside the dog park, there's a faucet for water and a few benches and a picnic table near the center of the park. The park has a bit of a hill to it, so the section nearest to the door is higher ground than the rest of the park (great for keeping your dog in sight even when he runs around the bend). This dog park also has actual grass (what!), which is already torn up in some places, but it's a nice touch over the usual dirt-covered parks. Beware though, as the grass can also be a landmine for dog poop since it makes it harder to see when someone's done their business. On the plus side, there's a lot of shade in this park as there are nice big trees lining the perimeter of the park and it's big enough for my dog to sprint around in (getting his workout in). Minor gripe is some dogs can be aggressive/rough, which my dog is pretty tolerant of, but keep an eye out just in case (especially for smaller dogs). My main gripe is that the double gate system here doesn't seem to work quite as well as intended, as many dogs rush into the section between the gates whenever someone tries to enter/leave. People who come here - please don't open both gates at the same time! If other dogs follow your dog out, herd them back in (or have their owner do that) before you open the outer gate to leave (or vice versa). It defeats the purpose of a double gate system if you just open both gates anyways. read more

Today was my fifth and most likely last visit to the Sunnyvale dog park at Los Palmas park. The other reviewers are spot on - the park itself is lovely, clean, well kept and inviting. But the dog park is basically none of those things. There's no separation between the big dogs and the little guys, which means I have to constantly scold my enthusiastic Aussie puppy nearly the whole time we are there, or else suffer nasty glares if he should engage with one of the little darlings (even if they are the ones who approach him!). I understand that little dogs can be intimidated by larger dogs, but if you choose to bring your pint sized pup to this dog park, you shouldn't expect all the big dogs to leave! We are frequent visitors to the Santa Clara (Reed St.) and Mountain View (Shoreline Park) dog parks, and we've always found both human and canine visitors to be friendly and courteous. Owners pick up after their dogs and keep them from getting over excited or too rough in play. Some dogs come to play ball, others to play with each other, and a few like to hang out and watch, but everyone pretty much seems to coexist really nicely. Unfortunately, this is the biggest disappointment at the Sunnyvale dog park. If you go during the day, the park seems to be just a place for a few friends getting together to dish on the latest gossip while the dogs lay around. If you go in the evening, there are certainly more dogs, but unfortunately enough lack of courtesy to make it seem frantic and overwhelming. For example, when my pup was small, a large and aggressive dog decided to pick on him. I picked him up to carry him out, only to have the same snarling, growling, snapping dog jump on me. Repeatedly. I had to yell for the owner to control her dog, which she did for about 20 seconds. It was a long way to the gate, and again I found myself being nearly knocked over by the beast. And then there's the cleanliness. The bags are grocery bags hung on the fence, and by the looks of things, they are rarely used. I went to sit on the bench today, only to find a few pieces of poo on the seat! The water is a couple of 5-gallon paint buckets, which results in a lot of waste, not to mention a huge mud puddle around the grate from all the dumping. For me, I'll take the extra 2 mins to drive to Mountain View, or the extra 5 mins to go to Reed Street where both my pup and I feel welcome! read more

This is a really nice dog park. Plenty of access to water you can also hose off your dog when you leave. Plenty of dog waste tools and bins. I like that they have two areas for regular size dogs and smaller dogs (25 lbs and under). Thank he draw back is it should open up sooner. 8 AM is kind of late in my opinion especially in the weekend. The park next to the dog park is really nice water areas and very scenic. The only thing I do not like is they treat the grass with a chemical that irritates dogs skin and causes patches of hair to fall out and they develop a rash. So if you take your dog there do not let them roll around in the grass. As far as people and other dogs, I hardly see them because I am there early in the morning. This dog park has been recently renovated (it reopened today 6/27/15) and I am very impressed! I just moved back to the bay and this is my new go-to dog park when I'm in this area. There is a huge large dog section and decently sized small dog section. It's all grass with dirt pathways around the perimeter. There are shovels and trash cans for responsible dog owners to clean up after their dogs and plenty of clean seating for the humans. My only issue, and I'm sure this will be addressed soon, is that there are only tall buckets for drinking water in the large dog section. Small pups who like to hang with the big dawgs like my pug can't reach these buckets -- I had to move him to the small dog section so he could hydrate at the appropriately sized fountain. Five stars for the park alone. Some of the people here (and their kids) can be real shitty, so be aware. For those who don't understand the concept of the entryway: Step 1: open the first gate. Step 2: close the first gate. Step 3: open the second gate. Step 4: close the second gate. People were opening both doors at the same time, running the risk of dogs escaping out in the open. PLEASE KEEP ONLY ONE GATE OPEN AT A TIME. Seriously. I had to run out and chase someone else's dog that had gotten out because some unsupervised kids swung the gates open. Get it together, folks. The city built this beautiful park for you. Please don't fuck it up for everyone. read more

The dog park was just redone and re-opened this weekend. Both my dogs and I love it! There are separate sections for large and small dogs (both good sizes), grass, and lots of seating and shady spots. Definitely disregard the old reviews - this place is awesome! This is not the park's fault, but geez people please take the leashes off your dog(s) BEFORE entering the park. That's part of the point of having two gates to get in. It's not safe to have a leashed dog inside the dog park. All in all, this is a great dog park and is definitely my go-to now (I went to Reed Street before, which I also like, but this is much nicer now). read more

The Peninsula isn't the most dog friendly area, so with that in mind I give Las Palmas three stars. Cons: - No grass - All dirt - Filthy at times (I'm talking ALL dirt) and there have been times rat poison has been left out Pros: (and there are quite a few!) - People and their dogs are so friendly. - Relatively big. Not huge, but there is plenty of space for dogs to run around - Pooper scoopers, trash bags and trash cans on all sides of the gate to ensure a poop free dog park (well, at least an attempt to be poop free) - Owners clean up after their dogs immediately. huge plus! - Plentiful parking - water galore! I've heard from several natives that this is the best dog park around, so I keep coming :) read more

Las Palmas Dog Park offers a good situation for socializing your pooch and allowing Rex, Max, Fido, Rover or in my case, Maggie, to give each other the great doggie butt sniff greeting. Those of you with smaller dogs beware, large and small dogs are not separated here and that can sometimes be an issue especially when the larger pooches look at your Tinkerbell or Toodles and only see a snack, There's a water source to keep your canine hydrated and there are usually poop bags on hand. I'd advise bringing extras because there is an occasional shortage. read more

While this dog park is pretty large, there is alot of improvement that could be made. Bad DISGUSTING - people don't pick up after their dogs. I saw huge piles of crap just laying around and people mindlessly chit chatting away and not watching their dogs. It's filled with dirt so don't come here after bathing your dog. There is no size parameter so the big dogs play with the little dogs. Decent There was one dog that was annoying our dog, so the owner asked us if she wanted us to move her dog. She could sense that we didn't want our dog playing with her dog as it kept wanting to bully ours. So she took her dog and went to another area of the park which was nice of her. I don't think we'll be coming here as we prefer a cleaner setting for our dog. read more

My dog and I have had a great time so far. People seem generally nice and considerate in terms of picking up after their dogs. Watch your dog though! Sometimes they'll rush after dogs leaving with their owner heading out the gate. I've also seen some dogs can be quite rough. My dogs medium/large so I don't have to worry so much but I've seen some little guys get run into. The people maintaining the park seem to do a good job with keeping the grass happy as I've been back a few times and sometimes there will be an area sectioned off so the grass will have a chance to grow back after the dogs trample it down. This is a really nice place for dogs since there is a lot of shade and water for the dogs. read more
