The parking lot is about 500 feet from the entrance to the dog park. It is autumn so it's not a surprise but there are lotta leaves on the ground which make it very difficult to find anything to pick up. I wouldn't advise walking around in the leafy areas. There is quite a bit of road noise. I've driven right by this park hundreds of times and had no idea it was here until today. Unfortunately the park is closed all day on Thursday for maintenance. I'd like to know what they do in the park that takes more than 10 minutes. I actually doubt if any maintenance has been done here in a long time. It's the same thing at the Gamma Dog Park which is closed on Wednesdays until three for maintenance. I've come by a couple of times before three by mistake and I've never seen anybody maintaining anything.

The park is divided in two: big dog and small dogs. Its mostly just dry dirt with some tanbark along the edges. No poop bags are provided however, there is a spot for some tennis balls and a water fountain along with a big bowl. Theres 4 benches mostly parked under the shade of big trees so you can expect a bit of seating. Parking right next to the dog park is pretty limited as it's mostly just street parking along Piedmont Road. No food or drinks are allowed and people, for the most part, follow the rules. Sometimes people bring their medium/large dogs into the small dog park so do keep an eye on your dog. The park is pretty well kept and clean throughout despite no bags being provided. Most of the people who frequent this park seem very kind and warm. If you have a social pup, I would come here and check it out.

I briefly visited from out of town for a breed specific meet up so my experience is not that of a regular. Pros include the spaciousness, real grass, bench seating, mature trees providing shade, trash bins inside the park area including poop scoopers, and a water fountain/bowl. When I went the water fountain wasn't working. I did some research beforehand. (Google Maps calls this the Piedmont Road Dog Park. I don't know if that's the official name.) They don't have poop bags either. I think these drawbacks will likely be remedied in the future. I've seen at other dog parks the community members step up and install back up poop bags or bring in stainless steel troughs for the water. In the meantime, bring your own bags and water! The one thing I really did not like was the parking situation. Piedmont seems very busy. There isn't a parking lot to pull into. I drove past the park initially. It's street parking on Piedmont with some areas of the curb being red or green. The solution would be for someone to park in a lot inside the park (another entrance) and to walk to the dog parks. There's also a shopping plaza across the street and residential streets nearby if you don't mind crossing the street. The real grass and mature trees/shade are really rare for a dog park! I could see this place being five stars for someone that lives in the area and is more experienced with the parking situation than me.

There is shade for pet owners, but not really for the dogs or near the water area where they drink. I also noticed there isn't a medium-dog section, so keep that in mind depending on your dog's size and comfort level. Another thing is that I didn't see any poop bags available, so definitely bring your own bags to clean up after your dog. There also isn't any grass, which would have been nice for the dogs to play on. They do have cleaning tools available, which is helpful, but I still think adding more shaded areas for the dogs, more water stations, poop bag dispensers, grass, and a medium-dog area would make this park much better.

Busy times may not be ideal for puppies…read more I normally really like this dog park, but after what happened this morning, I feel it's important to warn other puppy owners to be cautious about coming during very busy times. I brought my 5 month old Siberian Husky, Leo, as I normally do. He is extremely energetic, agile, and loves playing with other dogs. However, this morning the park was packed with a lot of much older, larger dogs, and two dogs in particular, an older black German Shepherd and a Doberman or Rottweiler type dog repeatedly ganged up on him. What really upset me was that the situation escalated to the point where both dogs sandwiched Leo and knocked him down and were on top of him, and the German Shepherd grabbed onto his neck and would not let go. Leo is normally very quick and capable of getting himself out of situations, but this time he didn't even get back up. I had to physically intervene and push the dogs off him and then the owner came up to see what had happened. Gee you're a little late! I then removed Leo and gave him some time to calm down before allowing him back around the other dogs. Then owner eventually approached me again, I could tell she was trying to get a rise out of me. She asked if I didn't want the dogs to play???? I explained that what I had just witnessed was not appropriate play and that there is a threshold where play becomes too rough and potentially dangerous. Her response was essentially that "that's how they play." She also described her 1.5 year old dog as a puppy, which is very different from my 5 month old puppy who is fairly new to dog parks in terms of size, age, and ability to handle an interaction with significantly older dogs. My biggest concern isn't that dogs were playing. Because I've brought him there several other times and Leo played just fine with the larger dogs. It's these specific two dogs that kept approaching him, even after I kept separating him from them. It's that the interaction was allowed to escalate without the owner stepping in. In fact, the owner was so busy talking to the other dogs, owner and gossiping that she wasn't even paying attention to how poorly her dog acts. If I hadn't been standing right there watching, Leo could have been seriously injured and I may have ended up needing to take him to the vet. I'm not saying people shouldn't bring their dogs here. I just want other dog owners to be aware that certain times of day can become extremely busy with larger and older dogs, and not every dog will have appropriate play manners. If you're bringing a young puppy, I'd strongly recommend choosing a quieter time when you can better control the environment and monitor interactions. Also, there were plenty of other dogs off leash outside of the dog park as well so when I tried to walk him on leash outside of the park, other unsupervised dogs who kept running up to him and jumping on him with more owners completely unaware of what's going on which is totally not OK. Please watch your puppies closely. Not every interaction that an owner considers "playing" is safe or appropriate for every dog.

This is a small dog park, but it has enough room to let the dogs run around. It has a small and a big dog side. The small dog side is 10*10 feet. Really can't do much. So we went to the big dog side. There were plenty of poopie bags available. But for some reason there was dog poop all along the perimeter. Stop being lazy people, clean up after your pet. Also there is no water available. It's a nice place with shade and benches and new looking fake grass. But I probably won't come back or recommend coming here. Between the smell of poop and probably the regulars who frequent this place. Probably not worth it. It's shame because it's a nice looking park

However, this dog park is unfortunately dirty from other visitors. There were several piles of other dog's business all around and there was a heavy smell emanating from the park's trash can. I wish the city would spend some more time to help ensure this space is kept well for us dog lovers! Overall I think it is a nice spot for dogs to get some energy out, but I don't think it's meant for the little guy I was dog sitting.
