Thoughtful. I had the slow roasted pork thigh. Sandwiches come with fixins of tomato,cabbage,pickled onions, guacamole,refried beans,butter & mayo. Bun crusty..OK..Hint of heat.Refried beans a nice texture. Pork was dry. Not great...not quite good either. Passable... Price point in the raise eyebrow, half way. $8.50. At that elevated plateau the munchies have to be approaching great...Good is not good enough. Memphis Blues , similar price., much better sandwich. Au Petit Cafe Banh Mi at almost half Las Tortas price wins hands down for satisfying bun and fillings. Not to mention the now long gone Dunkin Donuts on Main & 33rd had Tortas for many years in the $4 price range which were keepers.... If the pretty waxed butcher paper adds to the cost. Lose it. The wet towlette is not neccessary as the sandwich, mine at least, had absolutely no gloop, drip, slurp factor. If you grew up with burgers from the Spot. Warm, carmelized buns and triple o. Westcoast tastebuds demand the comfort of these two elements in their buns and sandwiches. This is a food town. High end..low end..and inbetween.. much competition for your buck and your stomach. Good Mexican-style sandwiches. I got the Pierna, consisting of pork, lettuce, tomato, beans, and a little smear of avocado on a tasty bun. Personally I felt it could use a little more of a flavour kick (maybe some salsa?) and, at ~$11 for a medium-sized sandwich, it was a bit expensive for what I got. Still, I'll probably go back to try some of the other menu items. read more

Snappy take-away service and tasty sandwiches. We had a chicken sandwich and an eggplant sandwich. I would definitely go back. I've been walking past this place for years and FINALLY went in. Repeatedly some of the best Mexican food in Vancouver. I'm usually not a big fan of burritos, finding them bland or boring, but these burritos are special and delicious- especially the crispy shrimp, perfect and somehow the shrimp stays crispy! Nice warm retreat off of cold rainy Cambie St. I ordered a delicious pulled pork burrito with guacamole and a mexican coke. The burrito is massive and delicious. Service was fast and the bathroom was highly clean (which says something to me about little hole in the wall restaurants). Only downfall, can get a little pricey. Check it out! read more

I guess it didn't help that I had star grade tortas in Denver (Las Tortas). I ordered the meal, which comes with a sandwich, kettle chips with salsa, and the aguas frescas. The tortas need more meat, re-fried beans none of this bead paste sh.t, fresher tomatoes, and maybe a fried egg! The bread was edible, but not the crunchy savoury bread I had back in Denver. As for the salsa, it was lacking. For the 9.99 meal it's cheap and quick but far from the authentic tortas experience. read more

I used to go here all the time when I worked in the area. The prices are GREAT and the food is unique and soooo yummy. The Tortilla soup is INCREDIBLE !!! This place is great! When you enter there is a small table on your left with menus, napkins, and newspaper. To order your food you grab a marker and cross off on the brown paper bag what you want. I got the vegetarian tortas and their famous chips. You bring the bag to the cash register and pay there. You find a seat and in less than 5 minutes your sandwich is there. The tortas is quiet large. Enough for 2 people. The chips come with salsa, and they are really really yummy! Eating the tortas is crazy messy. My dinner cost me $10.24. I will definitely be returning. read more

Good concept, decent service and extra points for a simple implementation. However, the food was not as fresh as desired and way too much garbage produced with all the wrappers and containers. If you're looking for traditional mexican food, don't expect to get tacos from Las Tortas. The name says it all: Tortas (Mexican subs). A little pricy for just subs but they are great tasting. Fast service and not always busy. Fresh ingredients and friendly people. They now deliver to certain areas and may be willing to get to your home if you're not far away from their restricted area. I've been here plenty of times and its consistently good. Potato chips are freshly fried on-site and are the perfect accompaniment to their tasty tortas. Portions are big so bring your appetite. read more

Yum Yum Yuuuuuum! You can choose fillings/toppings for each of the dishes and all we tried were oustanding in taste and quality. We had burrito with roasted chicken, another burrito with Mushrooms and Spinach, Quesadilla and chicken taco. They have gluten free (corn meal) options for most of the dishes. Food was FRESH, and yummy and really good. Las Tortas has Mexican sodas, including Mexican diet coke which is really good! Staff is friendly, the food came really fast and the place is simple, but clean. We payed for 4 dishes, 5 sodas, and several sweets for after the meal about 45 dollars. I used to tell everyone about how great this place was. When they first opened the Tortas were fantastic. it's been going down hill quickly since then. First the Tortas used to be much larger which made the price tag easier to swallow however, since opening the Tortas have gotten smaller and smaller. You used to get a nice wet towel with it too and now nothing but no change in the price. Service used to be with a smile and that is gone now. More disturbing is the cleanliness in the dining area that has gone from spic and span to filthy. And finally on my visit this week there were mouse traps in the bathroom and mouse droppings in the bathroom and dining area. Shudder to think what is going on in the kitchen. Definitely pass on this place until they can clean up their act. read more

I ordered a Vaca Loco and Tamarindo drink. The sandwich very delicious. The bun was lightly toasted on the outside and soft on the inside. The bun held up very well with the juicy filling. The beef was tender and juicy; paired well with the roasted poblano peppers, pickled onion, fresh lettuce and tomato. They have an assortment of other Mexican entrees. I am sure to return to try the tacos and tamales. As for the Tamarindo, I was expecting a more sour taste but it was a sweet iced tea like beverage. I'm not sure I'll try that again. I have been craving Mexican food since I came to Canada from the US. This food hit the spot. I had the Al Pastor Torta and it was delicious and flavorful. Most importantly it is perfect for a quick bite and feels like a real hole in the wall Mexican joint. So far the best Mexican food I have tried in Canada. read more

First time eating at las tortas today; I won't return. The sandwich (ham and egg) was just fine but the service was atrocious, likely due to the fact that the average age of the staff appears to be 15 years. Not that there's anything wrong with 15 year olds as long as they are well trained. Another very unenjoyable aspect was that they were playing AM radio, crackly and replete with annoying advertising. This environment is fine if you are shopping for appliances, but wholly unacceptable when eating. For me, at least. 4/10. read more

Had heard about this place from friends ...rave reviews... Im not one for long reviews so here is my opinion. Bread on the tortas was amazing. fresh as one could want. golden brown toasty on the outside. Everyone in our party ordered different things and they all kind of looked the same. Kind of like a mexican "sloppy joes". The veggies and stuff were stewed ....think pouring your fridge into a slow cooker and then pouring it into a warm tasty bun. The home made chips were soggy at the bottom of the pile...the service was unfriendly at a time when the place was empty (at 12:30pm on a weekday!) I was famished when I went there ...dug in... chomp yum chomp yum... then chomp hmmm... chomp.hmm. chomp. ug... wtf am I going to try to finish this for. Conclusion. If you are really high on something not so legal and want a filling meal go there.....otherwise you will spend the rest of the day wondering why you had that last bite of bland mexican sloppy joes. and like another poster said....no hot sauce? I ordered some with my chips and it was more like thousand island dressing. thumbs down... but the bread is awesome? read more

finally i've found something mexican in vancouver, dry keiser bread, panela cheese, refried beans,cabbage slaw,except for the price it's kinda too expensive for tortas, and mexican food is famous because its cheap,unless that's how we roll here in vancouver, put the price up so people think it's the best thing you can have,thing's here are completely diff. in NY, evryone in NY drop down their prices, nyway hope fully this joint stand as an example to all mexican to make their own joint and leave their day job,im a big fan of mexican cook's, they cook everything good, they make the best chinese,korean and japanese food in NY,sorry for the hater's but that's reality,it's not the asian who make their own food it's the mexican. read more
