Went to Las Trancas Mexican restaurant in Ripley with Kayla Beth Fields and the kids, Deacon and Calliope. We had a great dinner! I ordered the Shrimp Taco Special w Ice Water w Lemon, Kayla had the Nacho Supreme Special w Extra Cheese and Ice Water! Calliope wanted a cheeseburger w fries and she told the waiter herself and Decon had a child's portion of Chicken & Rice covered in Cheese and they ordered a small Cheese Dip for their chips! They had the colorful chips w the salsa which was very festive!! Very nice dinner!! Calliope did very well!! She had us all waving our arms like Butterflies and Tweeting like birdies, playing helps her eat!! Heck, whatever it takes!! Our waiter was amazing!! He came back numerous times to check on us! Stopped in for dinner during a road trip. Turned out to be an excellent choice. The service was amazing. Steffani was awesome - very much on top of things. The instant my water was gone she swooped by like an eagle snatching a fish and promptly refilled my water. Oh, and the chips....they almost beat us to our seat. I know it's not the case but it seemed like there was someone stationed there with chips and salsa in hand...but they are just that fast and efficient. Ate there Sunday between Christmas and New Years. I ordered fish tacos, asked waiter if fish was fried, he replied yes. However, the fish was not fried, it was grilled and not cooked thru. My daughter ordered a beef combination, no cheese in burrito. No lettuce or tomato either. Beef had no spices not even salt. Terribile lunch. Manager said he was going to give a discount for the meal, he took 10% off my meal. Real disappointed. Will not be back. I don't need Mexican like this. The Las Trancas dip is so delicious. It's rich and meaty. You could easily make it meal all to itself. It's a blend of ground meat, pico, and cilantro mixed into white cheese dip. The chicken fajita burrito was cooked with tender chicken pieces, seasoned well, and packed with veggies. Same for the chicken chimichanga. The tortilla was fried just enough to be crispy without it being overly done, and it was stuffed full of juicy shredded chicken and veggies. read more

I had the strangest chilies rellenos I've ever tried in the Western Hemisphere. Starting from the outside in - the sauce was reminiscent of BBQ in taste and color (see photo). The coating was appropriate for a corn dog and the cheese was that gooey county Fair nacho cheese. I took about 5 bites trying to find a redeeming one, but failed. My husband's pollo asado was ok, but too salty. My house salad had more green peppers and chunky sliced onion than any other ingredients. read more

Waited 7-8 minutes for someone to come to the front desk for a carry out order. The guy that finally showed up then proceeded to argue with me that there was only 1 item in the order instead of 2. Even when I said to just forget it and walk out the door, he kept trying to stop me arguing saying I was wrong. I could SEE THE BAG on the bench with my order. Every time we come to Ripley we eat here. The food is consistently good but found flat draft beer and has been in the last two visits, had to send back. We're not beer snobs but do expect draft beer taps to be maintained properly. Not significant enough to drop a star, just a forewarning. Margaritas always a great attitude adjuster. Staff always friendly and eager to please. read more

We love Las Trancas but this one in Ripley is an embarrassment to the name and the company. I heavily salt my chips when they come out so we asked our waiter to bring an additional basket. There were four of us eating so there was going to be no problem for us to finish a basket of chips. When our waiter refused to bring out another basket of chips I asked to speak with the manager. When the store manager arrived to our table he was quite arrogant and condescending. He also refused to bring out more chips but instead, he himself brought out an empty basket and said to us "there ya go, that's the only basket that we're going to bring you". Not certain why the chips are such a big deal at this restaurant but it cost them around $75 or so in meals and drinks because we decided to leave. I wouldn't go back here if it was free! And I don't recommend anyone else stopping by either. I'm sure we've all experienced wait staff that was lass than par but when a manager acts like that I'd hate to think of how low his standards may be for everything else in that place. When this placed claimed to be "authentic," I figured, here we go again, another flop! Las Trancas has the best food this side of Scottsdale! We could'nt believe it!!!! Was so happily surprised by this restaurant. The food was truly amazing, even the chips and Salsa were a step above with warm chips and excellent salsa, the Cheese dip was great too!! The portion size is large. We got the Texan Fajitas and the Burrito Diablo and couldn't stop mentioning how incredible each bite was! Prompt service, clean Atmosphere, and very reasonable prices! Grand combo plate of taco, chicken enchilada, Chile rellenos, rice & berms was yummy. Couldn't finish it. Price was right too.

This establishment failed to accommodate a group of 16 people directly after opening" due to a different section" this isn't the first time this restaurant has failed to accommodate a larger group and I do not recommend the food, service, or any factor of this business to anyone. read more

The place is clean and nice decor, but I ordered the steak fajitas and couldn't eat them. It's as if the cook forgot to put any seasoning in n them at all. They were beyond bland, couldn't be saved by toppings, it was very surprising. Perhaps just a bad night but it wasn't good. read more

God, lol where do I start with this place? The food is always so good! I'm a vegan now so I can't everything I usednto eat here but I still go sometimes with my mother. The chips and salsa are amazing. The Cheese dip is amazing (I can't eat it anymore even though its my weakness) the Guacamole isn't the best but its good! The staff is super nice and they are nice enough to change my oder around i need to veganize it a bit. I gave 4 stars because the staff can be a little slow some times. Not impressed AT ALL. Nice atmosphere but that's about it. Salsa is SUPER thin, no chunks and hardly any flavor. We were rushed, like the waiter was too busy to take our order. Walked off while I was still ordering and never even got part of my order. Mexican Style Guac comes as a bowl of stuff you have to cut up and mix yourself. They brought it the same time as my dinner. Nachos Supremos is anything but. Very small, hardly any chips at all and had to use the chips from the basket to basically build my own nachos too. Buddy ordered Queso and didn't bring it until halfway through he was done eating. I should have went to Taco Bell. I def won't go back. read more

It was a cold windy evening and apparently some places in Ripley were without power and we were hungry on our trip back to Michigan. So of course this restaurant was very busy and like far too many restaurants they were short staffed. Luckily while we were told it would be at least 30 to 40 minutes we were seated in 15. I ordered a draft mexican beer and much to the surprise of our server I landed up with a really huge glass of nice cold beer which I almost finished. But it was the food that we ordered that result in this review as it was amazing, starting with the queso dip. We ordered items we dont usually get...I had this incredible pineapple fajitas...with such tasty chicken and sauce and pieces of pineapple all served in half a pineapple. It was scrumptious as was the seafood chimichanga that my husband had. No doubt we will make this a regular stop on our trips from michigan to North Carolina. Thanks thanks thanks. read more

Sriving south on 77 and saw their signs so we stopped. Curb appeal was questionable but once inside we had an amazing experience - clean, great food and everyone here is so attentive and kind. Strongly recommend! read more
