I had high hopes when I walked in because the place is BEAUTIFUL! I ordered quesabirria tacos (emphasis on quesabirria twice which she confirmed) and my boyfriend ordered the "puffy tacos" with salsa verde sauce. We also ordered the corn dip. The corn dip was delicious. Our food came to the table and my food was wrong (birria vs quesabirria) and my boyfriend didn't get his salsa verde sauce. He asked for salsa verde and the "sauce" she brought him looked and tasted exactly like my birria consumè. When I asked "he asked for salsa verde", she tried to tell us that was salsa verde. Salsa verde is NOT red, as it's a "green sauce made from tomatillo and green chili peppers." At that point, I gave up on rectifying this experience as the waitress was determined to be correct. My boyfriend ate his puffy tacos (which he said was canned chicken and Taco Bell quality "beef), I packed up my birria tacos and we left. Disappointing experience. Will not return. read more

We went tonight as we finally escaped the house after all the snow and ice. While we aren't super close, it is worth the drive! The service was spectacular. The waitress for our table was busy helping another group that came in at the same time so the manager or owner came to take our drink orders and get us set up. We wouldn't have minded a short wait but it was a nice touch. We had a kids quesadilla meal with rice, arroz con seafood, and fish tacos. I had the arroz con seafood and it was a huge portion, so I brought home leftovers. The scallops and shrimp were delicious and well cooked. We enjoy Las Trancas occasionally, it's not far from home and staff is always friendly. I enjoy the authentic tacos and cheese dip! The only negative I could really say is that everytime you walk into the restaurant, it smells like sewer. Rarely do you smell the aroma of food cooking. It must be something structural with the location. The place could use a little updating and repairs honestly. It hasn't changed in the 20 years I've been attending. We've ordered takeout a few times from Las Trancas since moving to Randleman a few months ago; very pleased to report that each time had been a good experience. Their quesadillas are insanely delicious, juicy and flavorful; so far we've sampled the grilled steak, shredded chicken, grilled chicken and a plain cheese for the kids. If you order a platter/plate it will come with guacamole salad, lettuce, tomato and sour cream. So tasty; the steak quesadilla is my favorite! Also enjoyed were the chicken burrito with rice & beans, the steak burrito with rice & beans, chips, salsa and guacamole. I will most definitely continue to order out from Las Trancas; I'm pretty excited to try some other menu items in the future, so I'll definitely add more photos soon. read more

Nothing great just okay! Very pricey for what you get nothing bad but definitely not good either.

So I've eaten here about 5 times, twice in the past 24 hours. While the quality of the food is good, it can be a little inconsistent. I got the Enrique especial twice, and it seemed like I got two different sized portions of food. I will say however that the Enrique Especial was fantastic. They have the best hot sauce here that I've ever had. My biggest gripe though, that lost them 2 stars for me was the service. This isn't a very big restaurant, and two waitresses should be able to cover it effectively. However every time I've come in I've been sitting for 10-15 minutes without someone taking my order. They'll take my drink order, but forget to come ask me about food. I actually had the second waitress that was working take my order because I was finally able to flag someone down. It's actually a shame, the food is excellent, some of the best Mexican I've ever had, but the service just takes away from that. read more

I'll be honest, I'm somewhat of a snob when it comes to good Mexican food. I grew up near the border and my standards are high, that being said, I'd rate Las Trancas as a three star Mexican restaurant located in small southern town. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed. Pros: The servers are *usually* friendly, and always efficient. You most likely won't have to ask to have your water topped off. Another good thing to mention is that I've never been served stale chips (that's an immediate tell-tale sign of a mediocre Mexican restaurant, am I right??). They're hot salsa is packed with flavor, not just heat. I find that I always order the same dish when I come here, 'Pollo con Chorizo' (chicken topped with chorizo). It never fails, but other dishes have. Cons: The enchiladas are somewhat lackluster, and their "ACP" (Arroz Con Pollo) is somewhat bland. I may be the only one to say that about the ACP, however, since I think it's on half of the restaurants plates every time I dine here. I prefer small mom and pop (okay, madre y padre) Mexican restaurants where you can see them pressing homemade tortillas and the guac tastes like they just mashed it before it arrived on your plate. To others in the area, this may be the perfect Mexican restaurant for you-- but probably not if you've ever had the real thing. read more

This Mexican restaurant located in a WalMart shopping center wins no awards in my book. Service was efficient. Food was average, if not slightly below. Off flavors in the salsa and the refried beans contribute to this low rating as do ants spotted crawling along the booth wall. We also noticed a distinct dissonance between music that was apparently being played in the kitchen and the music played in the dining area. Can not recommend this restaurant. read more

I've ordered las Trancas a couple of times, and I've eaten here multiple times. Everytime I go in there the service is slow and the waitresses are very unfriendly. Everyone seems like they don't want to be there, I got a taco salad earlier. I found a hair in my taco salad, they didn't seem surprised when I told them. The waitress took forever to come over there and bring us refills, another table got their food before us. The service was slow and very disappointing, wouldn't recommend. read more

I've only been once but it was a great experience. Never would have thought you could find good mexican in Randleman. The chips salsa and queso were very good. I ordered a shrimp with queso dish. It was very good but could have used a bit more queso. My boyfriend ordered a seafood burrito which was huge. He said it was okay but wish it came with a cheese sauce. I've eaten at dozens of Mexican restaurants in multiple cities including authentic taquerias that serve traditional dishes not found in Americanized restaurants, such as sopes, mole, tortas, and menudo. Out of all Mexican restaurants I've ever been to, Las Trancas was the absolute worst. The food is bland and cheap in quality. Granted, it's been a few years, so it's possible that it's had a complete makeover with new cooks; but I'm not willing to go back and waste money on what will probably be horrible food. If you want good Mexican food in Randolph County, drive to Burrito Brothers in Asheboro. I'd rate it five stars for its quality. I'd also recommend San Luis / Casa Vallarta in Greensboro. Good traditional foods to try: torta de pollo, sope de asada, tostada de ceviche, and taco al pastor. To drink, I recommend horchata and any fruit-based agua fresca. You're welcome. :) read more

I love the chips and salsa! The chicken nacho fajitas are the best. They really do get slammed and I mean slammed! I went last night and it was exactly as expected. Food took awhile to get out but it was crazy busy so I wasn't surprised. It's a good lunch spot for sure. The only thing I would change is the method of seating although it's a cool idea you can't hear your own thoughts because there's people right behind you and right in front, booths are all back to back closer than any booth I've been in.
