We tried La Escondidita based on the very positive reviews on Yelp. However, I generally found the restaurant lacking, especially compared to its competition. While the guarnaches were very good, some of the other dishes my party ordered were just OK. I think it is worth recognizing that tortilla chips appeared made-to-order and served just out of the frier -- nice! Portion sizes were definitely on the skimpy side across everything we ordered, especially given the prices. Our server warned us the $1 Taco Tuesday tacos were small, but the amount of protein was tiny, even for a buck. If the prices had been a bit more reasonable given the portion sizes, this would be a very strong 3-star review. read more

Every-time I go, this place is absolutely amazing! I have no complaints ONLY that they change their prices often. (Like once every 3 months) A family a four average pays $15 pp , with food and drinks. I recommend the Quesabirria Tacos which is only available on the weekends & the green chilaquiles (if you like it spicy!) As well as an Horchata or Pina Colada (non alcoholic) to pair. Service is always good & they just recently renovated their little building , fits maybe 40-50 people comfortably. Definitely a place to go for some real good home made meals! read more

Really liked this spot! Cute little authentic restaurant with tables and plays great music. I was in the area because I started a new job around here and was in the mood for some tacos. The two tacos I ordered, the shredded chicken and the steak, were both bomb! great flavor and were served with grilled onions and a lime. I finished every bite! Also got the nachos with chorizo on them and I loved em! Super tasty and everything was very fresh. The one thing I really didn't like though was the cheese sauce, I was really hoping for a white queso, that's really my only issue. The taste was a little off. My server was super sweet and I would definitely return! Good thing I speak Spanish because the whole menu was in español! read more

What a delight it was to eat here! The waiter was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and authentic. I ordered a tiny puffy tostada (garnacha), vegetarian, and it was only $2.50 because I had no meat. I could certainly have eaten three of them. I got a side order of plantains, which were served with grated cheese and a white creamy garnish (crema, I guess?), and they were delicious! This place will get a lot of business from me in the future, now that I have discovered it. I only wish they had fish tacos, but I'm not complaining! There was plenty more tasty things to try! I visited La Escondidita at 6pm on a Saturday evening. There were several diners there including a Hispanic family which is always a sign of authentic food. I had three mini spicy pork tacos with a side of beans and a large mug of horchata (homemade) for under $10. The food was excellent! It was fun to listen to the ladies singing along with the music in the kitchen. I will definitely make this my permanent Mexican restaurant in Asheboro. read more

We visited the NC Zoo and this place was on our way home. The near perfect reviews convinced us to try this restaurant. The server was very pleasant and helpful in explaining the menu. We had the Taco Tuesday special, all six flavors, and they were delicious. We added platinos and chips with guacamole. We will be back the next time we go to the Zoo! read more

Looking for some where to stop on our road trip and my husband and I spotted this place. Its very small and packed, but they work fast to clear tables and we had a table immediately when entering. The food takes a while to cook but thats likely because its busy and the food is so fresh and delicious. Worth the wait for sure. The queso tacos y consume were perfect. La Escondidita Mexican kitchen opened in 2020 just as the Covid virus hit. It took us a while to discover the place, but when we did we were thoroughly impressed. Few places in the US offer such authentic Mexican cuisine. All of the tortillas and tostadas are made by hand on the premises and brought hot to the table. Tomatoes, lettuce onions and other ingredients were fresh and delicious. It's a tiny, out-of-the-way place, but well worth the effort to find. read more

Stumbled on La Escondididira for a late Sunday lunch followed by a zoo visit. Though the interior was nothing to speak of, the waitress was friendly and helpful, and the food excellent. We had ordered guacamole and chips to start. The chips were homemade and fresh, thick and salty. The guacamole was amongst the best I've ever had. Coarsely chopped and wonderfully seasoned, with distinctive onions. The chicken tostadas were quite good. The same homemade flat shells as the chips, with a nice salsa, thin-chopped cabbage, cojito cheese, and a choice of grilled or shredded chicken. We also shared huevos rancheros, another memorable dish with a layer of tortillas topped with eggs, then covered with more tortillas with cheese, salsa, etc. Drinks included an Agua Fresca Pina Colada (non-alcoholic) that reminded me of an orange whip. The portions were generous and the drinks enormous. Some of the items were highly priced, as seems to be the case with many restaurants post-COVID. Our food was unfortunately quite slow to arrive, leaving us with limited time for the zoo. Overall, though, highly recommended. read more

I had the Chilequiles - corn chips were so tasty and soaked in a wonderfully flavorful red sauce, topped either fresh cotija cheese and avocado and crema. (chef's kiss).
