My family went to this restaurant thinking it would be okay. The salsa tasted like canned tomatos with no fresh cilantro, onion or garlic. The cheese dip was fine but could be better. Word of warning, if you want to eat by yourself then bring cash. We walked in because my sister in law wanted salsa and I was to lazy to walk in Walmart. I sent my husband in and he walked back out saying if he didn't spend 10$ they wouldn't take his credit card. I then walked in, looked at their menu which has a large amount of stuff under 10$ (lunch meals for 6-8$) and am wondering how much food cost they lose because everyone uses a card now and not everyone knows to keep a 10$ bill in their wallet. Short staffed. Only two servers who are also the greeters and they make the drinks. Service was quite slow but staff was nice enough... The free chips and salsa is great. They also come with a little bean dip which my family loved. Crab enchilada is AMAZING. It was very salty at first but once they re-made it it was delicious! Waitress was new but a little frantic and snatched the receipt out of my hand when I noticed a mistake. All in all the food was really good but things did not operate smoothly! read more

I just had the best dinner here, seriously. I ordered the Salvadoreno special, pork & cheese pupusas, which is a staple food in el salvador (pupusas are like thick soft corn tortillas stuffed with pork & cheese or bean & cheese then cooked...kind of like an arepa or gordita only they look like flat pancakes with the fillings baked right in the center.) Like the traditional Salvadorian pupusas, they came with pickled cabbage and a side of tomato salsa for $6.50. Their margaritas are AWESOME; they come in 27 oz. for $7 and one knocked me on ass. Their horchata also isn't bad, although I don't think it's homemade (if it ever is, really). Free chips and salsa, pretty standard. All in all I thought it was really great. The owner/manager on duty was also really friendly; small space, only two people working and not very busy. Good selection of Mexican beers, too. read more

What a disappointment. We visit this area each year and have always looked forward to this Mexican restaurant. Last year we found it to be poor and this year we gave it another try, still poor. Food was very bland, refried beans were thin, food was not at all spicy and we had to watch a Spanish TV program and listen to a Spanish radio program from another area. I asked if the ownership had changed and I was told same owners past seven years. The final disappointment was after ordering the special at a reduced price we were charged the menu price. Meh. Being a well cultured south west girl... I didn't come in with high expectations. The salsa was lack luster and required a lot of salt. The chips were not fresh and I'm pretty sure they aren't homemade. I had a chimichanga. The tortilla was fried to perfection. Stuffed full of delicious chicken that was flavored wonderfully. Wasn't impressed by the strongly diluted white queso on top. The beans were authentic and the rice was alright. The tiny dollop of sour cream on wilted lettuce didn't bother me since there wasn't a thing on my plate that had even a hint of spiciness. This place is crazy good. We ate there for the first time about two weeks ago, and the food is fresh and delicious, and the portions are large... we ended up taking some home for lunch the following day. Prices are very reasonable, too. I had the Enchiladas Tres Marias, and my wife had a Burrito. Both were exceptional. Service is friendly and quick. There used to be another Mexican place in The Courthouse, El Ranchito; it was quite good, buy this place is considerably better. We'll be going back to try some of the Salvadoran specialties. The parking lot is a bit rough in spots, so if you drive a low-rider, be careful. read more

Been a loyal patron since they were in downtown Newport News and I was thrilled when they moved to Gloucester Courthouse. They are the real deal, authentic Mexican food with great flavor and wonderful service. The food is very good, always hot and comes to the table very quickly. The salsa is homemade with lots of cilantro, and the retried bean and quesa dip is awesome. The prices are super and you can feed a family of four for far less than you can buy a tank of gas for the trip although some of these reviews are a little harsh we have been faithful customers since 2010 and have never had a bad meal or experience. I love the carne asada steak and the shrimp quesadillas, but my favorite is the crab special which is an enchilada, a burrito and a quesadilla all full of real crabmeat. I have been to Las Tunas for dinner a dozen or so times and have never been disappointed. The food and service have always been good, and the atmosphere is passable. The chicken nachos are very disappointing, and the chef needs a crash course in how to make them. At Las Tunas, they come to your table looking like a small mountain of lettuce, and no other ingredients are visible. Dig into the lettuce, and you find a poor cheese sauce and maybe 1/16th cup of diced chicken. The chicken should be grilled, sliced, and visible when the plate is prepared for presentation to the customer. read more

Got the super burrito special which had steak, chicken and shrimp in it. Chicken was grizzly, steak was tough as shoe leather and there was literally one shrimp which was overlooked. The seasoning wasn't very flavorful either and the three sauces on top, green chili, cheese and red sauce were pretty bad too. They do serve chips at the table when you sit down which come with salsa and refried beans with cheese. The chips were ok and the salsa wasn't bad but not great either. My family and I enjoy eating at Las Tunas. The food is always good and reasonably priced. I'm sure folks from Texas or other border states will say the food doesn't compare to where they are from but that's to be expected. That being said, for Mexican food in Gloucester, it's well worth 4 stars. The wait staff is always friendly, the food is quickly prepared and perhaps one of the most important things to me, drinks are quickly refilled. While the bean sauce for chips is pretty good, I wish they had the white sauce like most other Mexican places do. read more
