We have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant since moving to this area. We have tried several that well, just haven't been noteworthy....until now. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. Even when you walk in you find yourself wondering if this is just a fast food place or an actual restaurant. I can't imagine how hot it is in the cooking area given how warm it was in the front. They have fans going at high speed but it doesn't cut the heat from the cooking area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's all open so I don't know if it would be a kitchen so much as a cooking space. This is the only bad I can think of to say. The food is AMAZING. You can tell that it is cooked with love and know how. I had the carnitas and the flavor was just so good. The amount of food they serve will not just fill you for your.visit, but you will have leftovers for days. Now to the staff. We only saw women in the front. These are the friendliest, sweetest group of VERY hard working women I have seen in a restaurant. There were just 3 and they were running around this very hot and crowded place with smiles and laughter. When we went to leave, they saw my mother struggle and two of them hurried over to help her. One took her arm, the other held the door. I defy you to find kindness like that in a fancy bougie joint! Four of us dined at Maria Bonita tonight, and we're glad we finally ate here. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is casual and festive with upbeat music and bright colors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was well prepared and tasty. Service as friendly and efficient. The staff were fine with our sitting awhile and talking after finishing our meal. The small Maria Margarita was not so small. It tasted good without the overly sweet syrup that some margaritas can have from their mixes. The Burrito El Jefe contained nice size pieces of grilled chicken and chorizo. The resturant had no rice, the beans were terrible, old and runny. I ordered the Chille Rellenos plate and the were ok didn't say they didn't have them only to be told 10 minutes later the chef could not find them. My wife had tacos and the meat was two days old and hard. I switch to Carnitas Michoacanas, which were ok but I got no onions, cilantro, or limes for seasoning it. We have usually gotten good food here maybe it was because they closed on the fourth and didn't have time to properly prep but whatever it was very disappointing. They stumbled on to this place a few years ago and go every time they are back in town. The food was really good. But what set it apart from other Mexican restaurants is that the guacamole seemed so fresh. The description said "freshly made-to-order". However, most guac would have to be somewhat fresh or it would be brown. The service was impeccable. Everyone was friendly. The biggest headache is getting to the restaurant. It is almost impossible. No u-turns, no signs throughout the strip mall, you just have to figure it out on your own. This is my favorite Mexican place and I am a SoCal born guy. I have been to places in Texas as well and the only thing they are missing is homemade tortillas. The chili rellenos's are a must to order and the chicken tamales are the best I have had. The service is always quick and polite. They can get overwhelmed at times but it is worth the wait. We drive a half hour just to eat here and go at least once a week. Jalisco beers for 2.50 is always a must. I came to Maria Bonita Cantina on a whim with my wife. We were behind schedule for our day and figured stopping for lunch would make our lives a little easier. This place is right next to the Williamsburg outlets and is tucked away at the far side of the plaza. When we came in there were a few families in there and I was greeted by the staff warmly. We had our son and sat in a booth where we could put the car seat which was helpful. The waitress greeted us and brought us some chips and salsa. We ordered a few drinks and I felt they were very reasonably priced. My 32oz corona familiar was 7 dollars, which is cheaper then a 12oz bottle in some places. We got the guacamole that was made fresh out on the floor. It was very good and worth the price. For food we ordered tacos. I was debating getting a platter and I asked the waitress and she recommended the tacos so I could try a few different things and I was glad I did. The al pastor was delicious better than most al pastor tacos I've had. The barbacoa was out of this world good. It might be the best barbacoa I've ever had. If your local or visiting the area I would definitely stop here if you like tacos. Food is great and reasonably priced and the staff is super friendly. read more

There was no wait to be seated. Upon entry Just pick a booth or table that is unoccupied, and wait for your server. There is a salsa bar that I highly recommend on trying. So this is where things went a bit south. After the chips were provided for the table, and orders were taken it took close to an hour before our food came. The waiter and cashier would pass by, glance, and eat an apple conversing while we waited for the food for sometime. Only after about 40 minutes with no one approaching the table to replenish the chips, or upsell drinks is when we were provided a status on our food. It was coming out and they apologized. My unsizzliyng fajitas came out by itself. About 5 minutes later the rice and beans that were to accompany it were then placed on the table. This has been renamed to "it takes a while fajitas". The hubbys "express burrito" I renamed it to "take your time burrito" and don't order if your on lunch break. Customers ordering take out were frustrated, since their waiting was encroaching onto their work time to eat due to the slowness, and no updates. Besides all of this. The food was good. Maybe it was an off day, but it would've been nice if we were informed they were short of a cook or he took a break to smoke in the back. Something anything at this point. Everything is amazing! The service, the food and the environment are excellent. My son has some severe allergies and they were wonderful to work with to make sure he had food he could eat. The bathroom was clean and the chips were warm. The salsa that comes with the chips is pretty mild (great for kids!) and you can spice it up with other salsas from the salsa bar. SO good! read more

Stopped here for a very quick dinner with my family before heading to the Wagsters Magic Theater (also great). We had tamales, nachos, and tacos (and a lot of great salsa from the salsa bar). All were ready quickly, priced reasonably, and delicious. Will definitely return when back in Williamsburg. (I'll note that we had Mexican food at another restaurant that was rated highly and this place was far superior). Went back again the next night. Not a big place, but if you're craving Mexican fare while at the outlet, it's a good place. Nice ambiance, fat and courteous service and big portions. Another plus is they do not skimp on the alcohol content in their margaritas (I got the Texas Margarita). The El Jefe Burrito, scrumptious and at least two meals for me. Prices are a bit higher than places like this, but still worth it. The only thing I was not Gaga over were the chips (the out of the bag kind) and the salsa (tasted like thick spaghetti sauce to me and my companion). Maria Bonita continues to not disappoint. Brand new location at the outlet mall is a so nice now on the other side of town. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with lots of great looking pictures in an assortment of colors. There are some new brand new items on the menu such as scallop tacos, octopus tacos, and cactus leaf tacos. There are plenty of TVs and music to keep you entertained. Staff as usual is super friendly and patient. As a bonus there are a few tables outside in front of the restaurant. The salsa and nachos are my favorite. Parking can be a little sketchy as there is competition with there busy Starbucks neighbor and with Verizon on the other side. Another successful and fabulous meal at Maria Bonita's! read more

My family and I have been dining at MBC (all locations) for the past 5 years and although their food is great, they ALWAYS have a difficult time comprehending and understanding what we are asking for. We are a vegetarian family and they NEVER seem to get what is asked for and the entree is made completely different each time. Just recently I ordered vegetarian enchiladas and they made enchiladas with just cheese inside and sprinkled some onions and peppers on the top. Not only this, but they charged $4 additional for peppers and onions. What I had asked for was vegetarian enchiladas with beans, cheese and veggies inside and beans and rice on the side like picture on the menu and sadly they did not get it right. I'm aware English is not their first language but despite talking to an individual who does speak decent English, they still make errors. Not sure how long we will keep returning to this establishment if this continues. read more

Nothing like the original one, Taqueria Maria Bonita on Mooretown Rd., where we have eaten the most delicious food. Nope. Waited too long for a taco salad and three tacos. The taco salad tasted like meh chicken salad without any flavor at all. Zippo, none. I had three tacos, one cactus which tasted like green peppers, one al pastor which had dried up pork not the juicy pork that's supposed to be in there, and finally a chorizo which once again was so dried up and half of it was a salt bomb. Thought we could save ourselves a drive by coming here instead but never again. Not only was the wait way too long, especially since there weren't many customers and there were three servers out front, but the menu was limited compared to the OG. The Original had tortas which this branch didn't offer. Also food there was a whole lot tastier. Gave it an extra star for the clean ambiance but the Original is a Dive and you get great food from some Dives. read more
