I'd had Laser Wolf on my list for a long time, so I went in with pretty high expectations. In the end, my experience was a little more nuanced than I expected. Overall, I'd give the experience a 4/5 for the service, atmosphere, views, and overall vibe. If I were rating the food alone, though, I'd say it was good, but not quite mind-blowing. I also have a strong feeling there's probably a noticeable difference between lunch and dinner service, although I can't say for sure. We went with the prix fixe menu. The salatim, hummus, and pita are unlimited, which is a great deal. The hummus was excellent--smooth, flavorful, and easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. The pita was fresh, warm, and constantly replenished. Among the salatim, I especially enjoyed the fennel and cabbage salad and the cucumber salad. The olive-cornichon mix and the pickled vegetables were good, but didn't stand out as much. For mains, the spicy lamb kofta was very good--well-seasoned, juicy, and served with a generous portion of tahini that was way more than needed. They also bring a small bowl of buttery cilantro rice for the table, which is a thoughtful touch, although honestly the unlimited pita was more than enough. The one disappointment was the brisket dog. We ordered it expecting something special, but it was surprisingly dry. The challah bun completely overwhelmed the sausage, and the cabbage topping plus crispy fried onions didn't add any moisture. The accompanying sauce was tahini-based, so it leaned dry as well instead of balancing everything out. On the bright side, it came with incredibly crispy fries and a delicious house ketchup that tasted much better than a standard bottled ketchup. Dessert was the soft serve, which was perfectly fine but nothing particularly memorable. For drinks, the mango cocktail with chili and lime was refreshing and hard to dislike. I also tried the fig arak drink. It was good and exciting to try, but I realized I'm just not much of a star anise person, so it wasn't really my style. The standout of the night was the restaurant's namesake cocktail, something wolf. Even though it's made with arak, I barely noticed it. The rum, passion fruit, and tropical flavors came together beautifully, making it taste like something you'd happily sip on a beach. Easily my favorite thing I drank that evening. Overall, given so many great restaurants in Brooklyn I might not come back to this but will say that it would be amazing to do a big group meal here - especially with the gorgeous views. Knowing I would be in Brooklyn for work, I secured a reservation at the restaurant, which is located on the rooftop of the Hoxton hotel. As someone who had never tried Israeli cuisine before, I was eagerly anticipating this meal. Although I ran a bit late due to my underestimation of the complexity of the New York City subway system, the restaurant was accommodating and I arrived only a couple of minutes past my reservation time. Upon arriving, I was struck by the stunning panoramic view of the East River and Manhattan from the rooftop location. After settling in and studying the menu, I opted for the steak shishlik from the grill menu, which is a pre-fixe meal that includes all the salatim and dessert. Salatim, or side dishes/salads, are a common accompaniment in Israeli cuisine, and I was excited to try them. I also ordered the Date-Harissa Wings with Tehina Ranch, as I have a weakness for wings. Shortly after ordering, the platter arrived with 11 delicious items, including babaganoush, hummus, mushroom, and lutenitsa. The soft and fluffy pita bread was perfect for enjoying the side dishes. The wings soon followed and they were cooked to perfection, with a perfectly sweet and tangy coating that paired perfectly with the tehina ranch. I had a great time trying all the different salatim and even experimented with mixing and matching them to create even more complex flavors. The fragrant rice and steak shishlik arrived shortly after, and I was overjoyed with the flavors and aromas of this meal. The dining experience ended with a brown sugar soft serve with sesame, cherry, and crunchies. Laser Wolf the New York branch of Michael Solomonov's Philly restaurant is excellent. It's an Israeli skewer restaurant where you pick your skewer (meat, fish or vegetable) and included with the entree is a big plate of various salatim (side dishes similar to Korean BBQ) as well as soft serve ice cream for desert. The salatim is the star here. It's unlimited refills on the salatim and pita bread. If you've been to Zahav in Philly you know that Solomonov's hummus and pita are the best going. Our favorites of the salatim were the; hummus + pita, babaganoush, pineapple with celery, and fennel + orange. This was a lot for two people and we only did one refill of the pita. We ordered an a la carte appetizer of the foie gras with pita + plum. The foie gras was delicious and the plum gave a nice sweet taste to the savoriness. For our entrees we did the steak and brisket. Each serving is about 8 oz of meat. The steak was very good and you could taste the smokiness from the open grill they cook it on. The brisket was on another level, hands down the best brisket I've had. The perfect word to describe it was delicious. Dessert was brown sugar soft serve which was very good. They also have sorbet for those that are lactose. Service was punctual, knowledgeable and friendly. 8 oz of whatever skewer you choose can seem small, however when you add in the unlimited salatim and dessert it's a very filling meal. Note that it's on a rooftop enclosed in windows. You have a beautiful view of Manhattan, but depending on the time and season you could have the sun setting in your face. read more

I wanted to share my recent experience at Laser wolf in Williamsburg, and unfortunately, it's not one I'd wish on anyone. What was supposed to be a special birthday dinner for my brother turned into a bit of a letdown, courtesy of some questionable decisions from the hostess. Right from the start, her attitude set an unfortunate tone. A friend simply inquired about an empty bar seat, and instead of a straightforward answer, he was scolded for a seat-saving request that never happened. The seat remained vacant the entire night, a head-scratching example of the restaurant's policies. Trying to make the best of it, I sought to get my friend into the empty seat, only to be blindsided by a waiting list that no one had informed us about. Meanwhile, they effortlessly accommodated a girl with a reservation who only wanted a quick drink. Frustrating, to say the least. Although the food was passable, the overall experience was marred by the hostess's attitude, bratty is the best way to describe it. Laser wolf isn't exactly a budget-friendly spot, and paying a premium for acceptable food while dealing with unnecessary drama just doesn't add up. I appreciate a seamless and enjoyable dining experience, and unfortunately, Laser wolf missed the mark. I came back to Laser Wolf for my second visit, this time for lunch, and it did not disappoint. The food was just as delicious as I remembered. The Salatim selection was smaller compared to dinner, but there was still a great variety, and everything was fresh and flavorful. The view of Manhattan from the enclosed rooftop is stunning, and despite being outside, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and warm it was. The only thing going for this place is the location and the views. The rude hostess and the slow waitstaff along with mediocre food makes me wonder where the good reviews come from. If you are familiar with Middle Eastern food, you would not be impressed with the dishes. They have very small portions with prices that do not justify the quality, taste or presentation. The fish was so small and not flavorful at $55. You can find fresh, authentic Mediterranean Middle Eastern food at any hole in the wall place in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
