Had a date night here on a weekday recently. No reservations, just walked in and asked for a bar spot. Waited about 20 minutes next door and got a text that our table was ready. Great-looking menu, ended up getting the Caesar salad, stuffed radicchio, and chicken to share. Everything was top-notch. The Caesar was one of the best I've had, and the stuffed radicchio was on another level. Didn't expect it to be as good as it was. The wine reduction was really special. The chicken was the star of the show. I'm one of those people who never order chicken out because I can make it at home, but this was just on another tier. I couldn't, on my best day, cook chicken this well. Couldn't recommend enough. The staff was super helpful and friendly without being overbearing sitting at the bar. Solid neighborhood brunch spot with fun vibes and a stellar french toast. However, it falls a little short of all the hype based on service + the other dishes we tried. Made a reservation for Saturday brunch with a friend and was instantly charmed upon arrival. I love the layout of the restaurant with the bistro tables facing inward-- it really feels like they are making the best use of the space. For food, my friend and I opted to share the french toast and the burger. The french toast was delicious, although dare I say the slab of butter they put on the top is a little too thick and too cold, so it's hard to get it to properly melt. The burger was good but nothing spectacular and I think they could have a much better bun. However, the fries were delicious! I got a flat white and my friend got a grapefruit juice. For the price, the sizes of the drinks fell flat, and my flat white was also too much like a cappuccino. I really liked the ambiance of the restaurant. It was moody but surrounded by the large windows. The restaurant had fun decor and could accommodate various group sizes! Our server was super sweet and cleaned off all the crumbs on our table before the next course of our dinner arrived which I thought was a nice touch! Oh, the glory this French toast is Crispy on the outside, pillowy soft inside, and served in a pool of the most flavorful maple syrup ever. If it were socially acceptable, I would've licked the plate The scoop of vanilla cream on top ties everything together perfectly. We loved the eggs too -- served over a bed of garlicky yogurt and chili oil. The sesame bread it comes with is like a flaky pita: chewy, warm, and just ideal for dipping. WOW! Wow wow wow. April does it again. I have been trying to get a table here since it opened and FINALLY did. Friday night I came here with a friend. It was PERFECT weather, so we sat outside. It really felt like dining in Europe between the vibe of the restaurant and the historic neighborhood. Everything we got was INCREDIBLE (except one thing, which I'll mention later. - Red gem oysters from PEI - Cod fritters + curry aioli - Barigoule artichoke with spring garlic aioli + fennel salami - Mediterranean oyster rice with fennel, cilantro, jalapeno - Halibut with parsley sauce - Lemon tart with creme fraiche Personally I didn't care for the patatas bravas. This is my favorite tapa and I used to order it at every restaurant when I lived in Spain and I would NOT share. lol The patatas bravas here were deeply fried to a very dark color and I didn't like the flavor. I also loved the inside and would dine there. The service was fantastic. We were greeted and offered drinks and olives while we waited for our table to be ready. Such a cute little brunch spot. We decided to share everything, which felt like the right move because we could sample each dish. The burger was delicious, cooked perfectly medium rare with that juicy, just right center. But my personal favorite? The Turkish eggs. Absolute saucy perfection. They came with a puffy flatbread that paired amazingly with all that rich, flavorful goodness, though I do wish the bread had been bigger. The sauce was just too good, and I needed more to soak it all up. The true star of the meal, though, was the French toast. Thick and drenched in a maple syrup with a vanilla cream dollop. I highly recommend ordering it almost as a dessert and eating it right away. We waited a bit while finishing the savory dishes, so it wasn't piping hot by the time we dug in, still delicious, but it definitely would've been even better warmer. I had no clue Sailor was open for lunch until I was searching for a lunch place on open table. We were able to get an 1130AM reservation. The restaurant was not busy with a few patrons. The restaurant was thoughtfully decked out with paintings, symbols consistent with sailing vibes. We started off with complimentary olives. I got the house white which was a sauvignon blanc for only 9 dollars. We ordered the deviled eggs followed by the smoked haddock soup. The haddock soup had large pieces of smoked haddock. It wasn't as creamy as a chowder, but that was a plus. We shared the burger and fries which came with mayo, mustard and ketchup and got the chicken. The chicken was so flavorful and so moist. If only all chicken came this moist. It retained its moisture even when we had it for leftovers a few days later. We ended the gluttonous lunch with theirs signature ginger cake with a cream on top. As someone who has eaten a lot of baked goods in the City, I was not super impressed with the cake. I would definitely skip it next time. read more

In addition to that we asked our server for appetizer recommendations and he said that he's only been there for 2 weeks and didn't know what to tell us. Struggled on writing the review because I wasn't sure what star rating to give it so I'll break everything down below. Restaurant itself is beautiful love all the nautical items. We arrived early before our reservation so they told us we could grab a drink in the corner of the bar. Drinks were great, but that area definitely got packed as people were waiting for their table and there were only approximately six seats in that corner. Food wise, we ordered what I would describe as a deviled egg. My husband thought they were decent deviled eggs, but nothing special. We also ordered the sunchokes which I had never heard of before, but we're really good. Highly recommend. And then for entrées I ordered the chicken which was incredible. Highly recommend probably the best chicken I've ever had and I don't normally order chicken in a restaurant. To be honest, I can't remember the second dish we ordered that's how underwhelming it was. The area that gave me pause on review was the service from our waitress. I don't know if it was just a bad night for her or if that is normally how she handles her tables, but she seemed to have zero interest in any of our tables. We watched the other servers explain the menu and be excited and make recommendations but our server was truly just an order taker. Back in Brooklyn! I cannot seem to stay away from New York. I guess it's in my bones. Landing at LaGuardia Airport this morning and a quick Uber ride to my son's Condo in Brooklyn we all wanted lunch - Now! Instead of the usual "Same Ole Same Ole" repetitive restaurants, my wife chose Sailors. A ten minute walk and viola, we were seated, ordered up and ready to go. I had a simply wonderful Caesar Salads that I think I might put it my top five (in the hundreds I've had). I also had Deviled Eggs that were creamy, scrumptious and quite pretty. I did order a something I've never had before - A Miller High Life beer pony style; meaning a bottle of beer the size of my fist. I really liked the size as I didn't have time for a nap. My wife had the lunch Bass with lentils and Swiss chard and came with a creamy horseradish sauce. She loved this dish. The service was stellar, the ambience was causal classy. Sailor was a SOLID restaurant. Properly "sailor-themed" decor with a lovely staff. The food was awesome and the wait staff were very helpful in recommending dishes and which items would go well with each other. All dishes were equally as fabulous, but if I had to pass on one it'd be the green salad as it was simple leaves with a vinaigrette + pumpkin seeds. Chickpea hummus was drizzled with a jalapeño oil that wasn't spicy but offered a great flavor. The artichoke was very tart and refreshing. It had a heavy acidity to it. The atmosphere here is fantastic and so beautiful. I really like the nautical accents alongside the wall and the bar area is also really cool. I felt like I was in a ship and they have a really nice seasonal pumpkin display outside. Onto the food, I came here for brunch, so can't speak to their normal menu, but my friend got the Turkish eggs, and I got the croque monsieur. While my portion size was decent, I felt like my friends plate was really really small for the price. I'm not sure she was full after the meal. My sandwich turned out to be so much food and cheese that I had trouble finishing it because it was loaded up with a lot of cheese. I thought this was delicious and my only minor complaint is that it was a little bit too acidic. There is a healthy slathering of Dijon mustard, and that paired with the pickles was a little bit overpowering. Sailor, yes please. Sailor is a cozy little spot, nestled on a corner in Fort Greene. We didn't have a reservation, however, they accept walk-ins for their bar area. We were in line on a Sunday, 20 minutes before they opened and we were lucky enough to get a seat for two at the bar. They check all the boxes here: * Great music * Fantastic service * Cozy vibes * Incredible food I was undecided which dish I was going with for brunch and asked our server what she'd recommend out of the two I had narrowed down. With confidence, she recommended the Turkish Eggs & Flatbread. When I tell you the flavors of this dish had me going crazy... wow, wow, wow! This is a must order - there's absolutely no question about it. So good, I've added this dish to my "best dishes of 2025 list". I'll be curious to see where it falls on the list by the time the end of the year is here but confident it will make the top 5, if not, top 3. The best thing is the ambiance and a decent wine list. The service is also friendly and prompt. The food is simply bad. It is so bad it destroys anything good about the place. The best is the bread and the spread. Everything else (I tried six dishes in total) has zero creativity, overcrowded with components that do not work. The worst is that everything is over seasoned. First and foremost this place was great! The restaurant is on a corner, dimly lit, beautiful artwork on the walls, great playlist vibes and an amazingly talented staff (I'll talk more about them later). Ordered a few things to share, the beets with smoked goat cheese was surprisingly tasty. I'm not a huge goat cheese fan but this was nice and really did taste smokey. The carrot, orange and avocado were such a lovely pairing of flavors. I love all those things individually but never thought to have them together, great idea! Very much enjoyed the cod and roasted chicken. That had to have been the juiciest chicken I've had in a while. From light crisp on the skin to the softness of the chicken breast to that SAUCE! Oh ma gawd. I was dipping the cod in the chicken sauce too it was that good. Oh thankfully saved space for dessert and completely devoured the Profiterole (first time trying this). Two delicious puff pastry / vanilla ice cream / caramel glazed pieces landed on the table. Great way to wrap up the dinner, sweet and lightly savory at the same time. 5 completely earned stars for sure. Oh, back to the staff. When I arrived they were pretty busy (Monday night) and after a bit were able to accommodate. The timing worked out great, the host was sweet. The server was fantastic. Not sure I quite understand all the hype (wouldn't necessarily wait for a long time for a table), but it's a great brunch option and I'll be back. Highly recommend setting Resy notifys - I got multiple notifications for brunch openings by doing that. Ambiance / Service: very casual, has a quaint neighborhoody feel. Rustic nautical vibes. I saw lots of families with younger children dining here. There is outdoor seating (not covered so really only good when the weather is nice). Restaurant isn't very big so I don't think it would be ideal for a party larger than 6. Service was great. Food: ordered the below between 2 people. -Caesar Salad: I would order again. Croutons were good and dressing was flavorful. Had a nice tang to it. -French Toast: I feel like this is a must. It's not very big, but it was perfect to share. Not sure I'd want as my sole entree. Texture is similar to a soufflé. Despite what it looks like, it wasn't overly sweet. -Sailor Burger: slightly undercooked for me. We asked for medium and it was medium rare. I went to brunch at Sailor this past weekend. Let me preface this by saying I am not a brunch person, but I was absolutely blown away. Sailor is quite a small [but very cute] restaurant so I definitely get why it's difficult to get a reservation. There's not a bad seat in the house, all the tables face the floor to ceiling windows. The restaurant is awash in sunlight. The kitchen is semi open, you could see inside from our table. The April Bloomfield was in the kitchen on Sunday, it was quite thrilling to watch her work. I had the Sailor Burger [$33] which was quite large and juicy. The melted cheese and onion were sublime. The amount of fries on the side was absolutely the correct amount: a ton. They definitely rank up there with McDonalds fries as being delectable. My friend and I shared the French Toast [$19], which was a delicious behemoth. It was the size of an actual hamburger. The top was caramelized and the syrup it was swimming in, well, I wanted to swim in it too. The vanilla cream reminded me of ice cream but ..it wasn't. We both had lattes, which were also great. TLDR: finally went for lunch, beautiful and casual neighborhood spot, with good food! SETTING: made a lunch res for 12pm. We arrived a few minutes early and there was already a bit of a line with people waiting to walk in. The hype around Sailor is REAL! The restaurant looks smaller than it is inside- they have spaced out tables / fit a lot into a tighter space and the restaurant is beautiful/airy yet cozy at the same time. Perfect for family, dates, friends. FOOD: we ordered the deviled eggs, gentleman's dip (anchovy dip), the burger and quiche. The deviled eggs had a copious amount of Mayo that was a bit much (even as a Mayo lover!!). The anchovy dip was also quite salty- which is to be expected but I wanted a garnish or something that could cut through the salt. The burger was quite salty as well. However I don't mind salt and will say the burger was absolutely delicious! The quiche was a perfect texture and very tasty as well. SERVICE: our server was very sweet and attentive. No notes. Has the ship sailed? High Point staff all of them are friendly and helpful. Was seated 45 minutes late. House ran out of pork shoulder. Was with people I love hanging with so we were able to overlook quite a bit... and the manager insisted on taking one of our entrees off the bill ... not requested by us.,, but that tells you something about how poorly things were going. We managed to have a wonderful time but it would have been elevated by spectacular food. I had heard wonderful things which just exacerbated the disappointment when dishes were unavailable or poorly executed. Place was packed but if kitchen does not turn around there will be more people like me who never return and talk smack about the place. Last 5 new places I tried were exceptional..My streak had to end sometime.. Hope for other peoples sake they get it together.... I am not sure who in the kitchen needs to walk the plank... but things could be better! I had been wanting to try Sailor for brunch for months and I was lucky enough to snag a reservation for two on a Sunday at 2pm via the Resy notify feature. We were lucky since I believe the last seating for which they usually have brunch is 2pm on weekends. The place is super cute-- the smoky red, rustic brick exterior, the large windows that let in plenty of natural light, the dark hardwood planks on the ceiling, the navy blue accents, nautical artwork: it truly makes you feel inside a boat. We were seated almost immediately in the dining room and our waitress came by to hand us menus and water. Service was very nice and they answered all our questions about the menu. One thing to note is that for a party of 2 or 3 they do want you out of there within 1 hour which feels a little short, especially if you've been waiting months to come here. For this reason, they also have a policy that food will come out as it is ready (we wanted to save the French toast for dessert to enjoy it fresh without savory distractions but this simply was not possible which was mildly disappointing). Nonetheless, the food was undeniably excellent. We tried: - Caesar salad: Super fresh and crispy lettuce with generous caesar dressing, parmesan, and full anchovies. The anchovies were surprisingly not as salty as I expected and added a very nice aesthetic to the dish. It also came with croutons that were simply divine: super crispy, and garlicky. - Turkish eggs: this dish was phenomenal! Two perfectly poached eggs served over a bed of garlicky yogurt that went really nicely with the silky egg yolks. The eggs came with some spiced oil which had some smoky paprika, and definitely some chili flakes that gave it a nice spicy kick. I could not identify the other spices but the mix was very warm and comforting. It came with this very flaky, yet chewy, and warm sesame flatbread on the side to scoop up all the delicious elements of the dish. Would order again. - Sailor burger: Another hit, this burger was just amazing! The meat had a delicious flavor, and had the right amount of fat to be tender and decadent without being too greasy. It came with some caramelized onions that complemented the umami flavors of the meat well, as well as some cheddar to add another layer of savory creaminess. This came with fries that were exceptionally well done-- the fries were perfectly salted and were very crispy. The bun in which the burger came had a very nice heartiness to it which I think made the burger even more delicious. It provided the perfect plain, rustic base for the rich patty. One of the best burgers I have had in a long time. Does not feel too heavy and is good to share. - French toast: this is a must! The thick brioche comes perfectly grilled, with an almost caramelized crispy exterior and a pillowy, soft interior that is reminiscent of bread pudding. The toast comes with generous amounts of maple syrup, although surprisingly it is not as sweet as you may think! It comes with some light vanilla cream on top to balance it all. This is the best french toast I have had in the city, no question. Would come back just for this. The portion size is not as big so it good to share with one other person. 100/10! Overall, the food was amazing and I would definitely come back to have it again. Downsides I would say are 1) the policies of table time, which I wish could be extended even to 1.5 hours for parties of 2-3 to be able to enjoy that French toast for dessert and enjoy more of the ambiance during the meal in general, and 2) the price, which I think is made up for by their exceptionally high quality ingredients. I still think this place is 100% worth the hype and look forward to trying their dinner service + returning for brunch in the future! read more
