I feel like the prices here are too expensive to justify the quality. My favorite thing was the babaganoush. Also, the service is not great. It feels like the staff haven't been trained properly. There were times that our waitress seemed lost and didn't know what she was doing. We had to ask other wait staff questions to get proper answers. Also, don't advertise a special menu on Opentable and give people the option to reserve the menu when you aren't offering it. Came here for latkes and caviar for NYE since it said it was on the menu when I reserved on Opentable. Got there and was told they only served it during Hannuka Hanukkah. I felt like everything here was very average. The schnitzel was good, not great. It was a little dry. The table-side hummus was very standard hummus, and the table-side experience didn't add much. The baba ganoush was pretty good, however. I didn't love the pomegranate seeds, but they kind of just got in the way and made it harder to eat. I'm not usually a big Mediterranean foodie, but Mesiba made me want to try more. On a hot Williamsburg afternoon, their Mediterranean salad was exactly what I needed -- fresh, crisp, and refreshing. The veggies were perfectly dressed, and the feta was bold and briny in the best way. But the real star? The frena bread. Warm, pillowy, with that wood-fired char, and served with creamy labneh and herb oil,I could have made a whole meal out of just that. Went here with my parents. We had to wait a few minutes to be seated as they planned our table. We ordered the Mesibha cart hummus which was delicious with the house made pita. Also ordered the lamb neck which the three of us easily split and ever enjoyed making tacos with the lachuch and tahina. Finally we had the Moroccan fish which was so flavorful and a crowd pleaser. I had dinner at Mesiba last night and I would rate my meal and experience as 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the food and it really is a well decorated restaurant. I think the vibe would have been better if there were more people dining, but that's okay. However, there were a few things about the experience that rubbed me the wrong way. Given this, I don't think I'd return. First, I'll review the food. I ordered: The special, hummus ($20)- this was "made tableside" which meant that they put the prepared hummus in a bowl and topped it with some warm chickpeas and spices. It was very good, but I felt it was expensive for what it was. It also was more liquidy than other hummus I've had. It came with one pita which wasn't enough for two people. Cucumber salad ($18)- this was the best thing I ate at Mesiba! The cucumbers, radishes and onions had a tasty tahini dressing and there were also sesame seeds on top. It was fresh and refreshing with herbs like mint. The portion was also a generous size compared to the other items we tried in the Yalla section. Eli's baba ganoush 2.0 ($20)- the baba ganoush was tasty but not my favorite. It was pretty looking but my real issue was that it was served with a spoon and no bread. I've never heard of eating a dip like this on its own. Extra piece of pita bread ($9)- I'm sorry, but this was ridiculous! The bread was warm and nice but no way was this worth $9. If they had been transparent about the cost I would have not gotten the extra piece of bread. This tainted my experience. This restaurant isn't cheap. Now you're nickel and dime-ing your customers?! Chicken Musakhan ($36)- I feel that $36 for chicken is a steep price. I did find this dish to be flavorful and enjoyable. There was a nice spinach salad atop flatbread with well spiced chicken on top. The portion was a good size. I really came to Mesiba for schnitzel, but this was good, not what I was craving but good. Some important (IMO) notes: Mesiba's social media can be misleading. They only serve Schnitzel on Tuesdays. Our table wasn't the only ones disappointed and surprised to hear this. The people at the table next to us sat down and promptly asked about the schnitzel. I'm sorry, but $9 for one piece of pita is not right. The last thing about my experience that rubbed me the wrong way was that when they brought the check it said "a suggested gratuity of 20% has been added to your check for your convenience. If you would like to leave a different amount, please indicate below." And while I find this not necessary, it is fine, HOWEVER, they did not bring us a pen to write in a different amount if we wanted to leave a different tip, and I don't think that was right. I was comparing my experience here to my experiences dining at Laser Wolf, and I have to say, I preferred Laser Wolf. At Laser Wolf you could order hummus, pita and a generous portion of salatim for $26. Here for $20 you get one pita and a bowl of hummus. I hope the management at Mesiba reads this review and makes changes accordingly. read more

Came here for the Hanukkah latke cart and would totally come back for it and the incredible babaganoush, bread, and kanafeh - everything we ordered. The babaganoush has this dark smoked part of it and the center is so creamy, unlike any I've had before. Full disclosure: I ended up here because I stayed at Moxy Williamsburg-Brooklyn and they had a deal for two free cocktails at this restaurant (Moxy failed to tell the restaurant, so I was glad I had my reservation details handy). Regardless, I am glad I landed here! This restaurant focuses on cuisine from Tel Aviv, so a Middle Eastern/Jewish focus. The menu is divided into the following sections: Nishnushim (small plates), yalla (shareable plates), gadol (individual entrees), and mesiba (large, shareable entrees). I had the frena, a delicious, light bread served with sour cream and spicy shatta. It was delightful, however, if I had been paying better attention (sorry, long day of work), I would have ordered the frena with table-side hummus service (special of the day). I also ordered the cucumber salad, which was cool and refreshing. Made with chilled cucumber, tahini, adjaki oil, and what I assume was watermelon radish--this was wonderful. The dish also had nuts and fresh mint, so it was bursting with flavor and texture. For my main course, I went with the server recommendation--the kreplach. Made with charred onion ricotta, hazelnuts, spinach, and leeks--laid on a bed of soup/broth--this was a light and savory choice. Some of the other choices are equally enticing--roasted cabbage, red snapper, baba ganoush, branzino, and more. Cocktails are creative, refreshing, and fun. I started with the Tevah margarita--made with patron blanco grand mariner, poached pear, toasted black walnuts, blue spirulina, and lime juice. This was super tasty and made for an attractive photo. I also had the Loukoumades sour, made with tanqueray, lustau amontillado, arak, pomegranate, sumac, preserved lemon, and citrus. I finished with the Arak Service, an anise aperitif of grapefruit and honeydew. This isn't for everyone, but it was served in crystalware with fanfare. The licorice taste of the anise portion, the clean, biting character of the liquor, and the bite of the grapefruit were most pleasing. I had the "kisses" for desert at the recommendation of the server. This is a vanilla meringue shell with Chantilly cream and black currant sorbet, served with fresh berries. The sorbet was tangy and the berries were fresh, but this wasn't my thing. I should have ordered the dark chocolate dish or the charred cheesecake. No shade to the server. One of the best Levantine cuisine spots I've had! The frena bread with sour cream and spicy shatta is the best pita bread I've ever had. It is so light and fluffy and chewy, perfectly seasoned on top. The sour cream is tangy and creamy, and the spicy shatta adds a nice kick. The table-side hummus service is very cool. They mix in crushed chickpeas, chickpeas, olive oil, spice if you want and other sauces. It is so creamy and nutty and tangy and warms your insides. One of the best hummuses I've had, tied with the one at Laser Wolf. The other dishes are all hits as well. The lamb neck is super tender and the pancakes you make with it are so fluffy and full of flavor. Mesiba has a warm Modern Zen ambiance. The esthetic of the restaurant has beautiful lighting and geo patterns that resonate throughout every piece of decor. Nothing here is random and it's insanely satisfying to take in. The staff was so sweet and welcoming. This review is solely for the Restaurant Week menu. The portions are significantly smaller for entrees in the Restaurant Week menu, and we were not informed about it when we ordered. For example, the prawn risotto had 2 prawns in it... and maybe 5 spoonfuls of risotto. The branzino is half of the size of the normal entree portion. We ordered two bread orders and did not leave hungry because of that. I think this is misadvertising because people expect to get a normal sized portion of entree when you order a 3-course menu. I wasn't a big fan of the ganoush, but definitely LOVED the oysters and octopus. The oysters tasted a bit tart with the hibiscus and a fresh clean oyster taste. Mesiba came into the picture when the sky decided to rain dogs and cats. Half drenched, my partner and I walked into the calm interior of Mesiba. Mesiba champions the modern middle eastern mixed with the Williamsburg Boho. Coming from dark and rainy chaos, the calm interior was much needed. The workers are also calm and patient which matched the ambiance. We ordered a full spread: drinks, appetizers, entree, and dessert. Our favorites were the appetizers with the Frena Bread which was fluffy on the inside and nice and crispy on the outside and topped with finishing salts and herbs. Complemented with the creamy spread? Wow. And the fluke crudo with fresh fluke and paired with the delicious carrot and herb sauce (I swear I didn't drink it). I wish they could just serve appetizers. Honorable mentions include the Khinkali and the Knafeh which were also delicious. This was the first time I had Persian food, but if everything is always this delicious, I'm willing to try more of it. If you're staying at the Moxy next door, I would definitely try Mesiba because it is on par with the restaurants in the city. Our table wasn't ready by our reservation time so we ended up hanging out at the front bar. I wanted to try the motek which is their take on an expresso martini, but they didn't have the lebneh foam so I got the mish mish. It was light and refreshing. For food I tried the frena bread, tuna crudo, mushroom shwarma, and the chicken musakhan. We had debated between getting the chicken or the lamb neck but we were pushed to get the chicken. It was tender and well cooked but the flavor profiles were very similiar to the mushroom shawarma and frena bread, I would have liked if the waiter would have recommended something different from other items we were getting already. We got the specialty dessert, which took so long to come out for a cold dessert. Great selection for upscale Israeli in Williamsburg. Part of the new Moxy Hotel, Mesiba not only has great food, but delicious cocktails (including Arak) and friendly staff. I'd recommend trying to get a reservation on Resy a few days in advance. Our reservation was at 8:15pm and we ended up getting seated at 8:35pm. The good news was that our first round of drinks were comped by the restaurant as a way to apologize for the wait. The food menu is broken up in to sections as Mesiba means party in Hewbrew, so everything is meant to share. If it's your first time, here's what I'd recommend for 2 people 1. some bread to share such as the Frena Bread 2. a dip to go with the bread like the baba ganoush 3. Head On Prawns (although the risotto/rice with it was a touch too salty, given they shave manchego cheese on top) 4. Mesiba is a great place to enjoy gracious hospitality and a beautiful interior, which seems to defy any architectural style with which I am familiar; though, close to art deco. I walked in with no reservation on a Tuesday around 5:45 and was immediately seated by the window facing the street. I ordered a beer and the all you can eat Schnitzel, chicken given the Middle Eastern and Israeli roots of Mesiba. Schnitzel can be of veal or pork in Germany and Austria and with a delicious and hearty mushroom sauce if you have the Jaeger version. Having lived and studied in Germany, I must adjust my expectations when it comes to certain dishes I seek in the US like Schnitzel or Currywurst. The Schnitzel arrived quickly on a wooden board or mini butcher block with the fries, a ramekin of aoli, and a half lemon roasted and ready to release its juices. The thinly pounded, breaded and fried chicken Schnitzel was delightfully crisp on the exterior. However, there was no seasoning in the batter and the aoli made little impact. In fact, the fries and their appropriate level of salt, were the best counterpoint to the Schnitzel. Squeeze the lemon, for the citrus heightens the flavor of the batter on the palate and it is a necessity here. One is not likely to eat Schnitzel all evening at Mesiba and I anticipated this Summer's heat would be incompatible with eating too much. I was right and happy I limited myself as I walked to the subway afterwards. It is worth noting, they are quick to bring you more Schnitzel and they will bring fries every time they bring you Schnitzel, unless you tell them to hold the fries. If one is not familiar with Schnitzel, the Schnitzel at Mesiba would be a four or five star experience. It's unfortunate I have had it in Europe many times, so my evaluation is a bit tempered and muted at three and a half stars. Please do not let that keep you from coming here for the Schnitzel or anything else they have on the menu. Most tables were ordering the Schnitzel and it is very popular. It's a great place to come with friends or a date and it is quiet to enjoy a relaxed conversation at Mesiba. My check, which already included a twenty percent gratuity, came to just over $42, which added to the relaxation and enjoyment of a good value. I am not supportive of automatic gratuities. Given the check was not large for the Schnitzel and the good service, I let it slide. The three and a half star experience could be greater if ordering other items on the menu and if they were to leave the tip to the discretion of the patron. read more

W e went for brunch with our grandson and his Israeli wife. The food was fantastic as was Valentina, our server. The hummus was creamy and delicious. The shakshuka, bourekas, arayas pita, falafels were equally amazing. The "cherry on the cake" were the desserts: Milky (chocolate mousse, whipped cream and hazelnuts) and Basque cheesecake were to die for. The owner/chef Eli is gracious and welcoming. Amazing new Israeli spot in the new Moxy Williamsburg hotel. Get the Frena Bread ($8) to start and the Ktzitzot ($24). The Fennel Salad ($21) is also a good starter for something lighter. For the larger items, the Chicken Musakhan ($36) was excellent, as was the larger Lamb Neck ($54). Try the Cheesecake ($1) for dessert. read more

Wonderful service and ambience and the most delicious meal I have had in a decade. Try this awesome restaurant. I had a cocktail on the lovely patio outside and enjoyed a table inside later. The menu is exciting and varied and Mediterranean inspired. Order the hummus. They make it fresh for you at the table. Every dish I tried was a flavor explosion. Fun cocktails and amazing cheesecake and Daou Cabernet round out the exciting menu. Perfect location for a group meal and they have a private dining area for parties. Try this restaurant! read more

More like 4.5. Dined here one early Friday night. Food rundown: - Freva bread (5/5) this was delicious, order this. - Eli's Babaganoush (5/5) big highlight, beautifully done charred eggplant with tahini. You'll need an order of the freva bread since it doesn't come with anything to dip it. - fennel salad (3/5) it's fresh but was heavy on the citrus, wasn't my favorite tbh. - mushroom shawarma (3.5/5) good flavors but was underwhelmed. It was 1 "kebab" for $21. Dessert: - cheesecake (4.5/5) - knafeh (5/5) The dessert was excellent. And the service was very nice and attentive too. Would come back to try more dishes, and to eat the bread/babaganoush/desserts again. Visited Mesiba last night with a few friends. My boyfriend and I love to find new restaurants and we were so excited about this place. The ambiance and decor were such a vibe - super trendy style. We were greeted by two hostesses that were very friendly. They have such a unique cocktail menu. I ordered the Gazoz which was a beautiful cocktail. We also got the Turkish Old Fashion, Dvash and Motek. These all tasted great but the quantity it not enough and these were not strong. For food, we ordered the Frena, Spicy Plate TLV Vibes, babaganoush, fennel salad, mushroom shawarma and kreplach. The bread was delicious, this is a must have. The Fennel salad was refreshing and lemony. The babaganoush was served as an eggplant, it wasn't a tradition version of this so if you don't eggplant you may not want to get it. How ever, I liked it and I thought it was could. The spicy play TLV vibes is just peppers served 3 different ways - it's good if you want to add this to other entrees to make it spicy but I wouldn't consider this an appetizer. The kreplach was a dumpling with ricotta cheese which was good. The quantity of the food was not great. Each dish was so small and it was price didn't match the quantity. Overall, the restaurant was really aesthetic and the people were nice but wouldn't recommend for the price/quantity.
