Dropped into Barano with my friend in the evening. It was weekday evening, still half packed. I recommend making a reservation beforehand. We opted for meat pizza and chicken parm with pasta on the side. Pizza was solid, crusty with chunks of meat. It was paired with chicken parm and a side of pasta. It was surprisingly still crispy and juicy. Side of pasta amplified the taste. Service was great with polished warmth. The ambiance was cozy with rustic intimacy. I would definitely recommend for a date night or just quick hangout.

*More like a 2.5 but I'll give it a 3 for the dessert. My sister dragged me here for the rainbow sundae and that was honestly the best part of the night. First of all, we arrived on time but we waited 45 minutes to be sat down at a table. The restaurant was super busy that night, especially it being a Friday. I would have overlooked the waiting time if it weren't that it took a long time to finally get our orders taken. The waiter was nice and charming the times he did pass by our table. We were even there long enough for when the crowd died down and it was still hard to flag down our waiter or any other one. The ambiance is beautiful with low light dimming and Christmas decorations. You know what wasn't pretty? Our food. It was burnt and at first I couldn't tell because of the lack of lighting but when I took a picture with flash, I noticed the burnt areas around my prosciutto and fig pizza and garlic bread. We could taste it as well. We could have asked for a new order but we didn't want to spend the rest of the night there. So we covered the garlic bread in pesto sauce to make it tasty and ate around the black crusts of the pizza. The combination of fig and prosciutto was delicious. As I mentioned earlier, the best part of the night was the dessert. We loved the rainbow cake sundae and the chocolate cake. The cake was rich in taste but not to the point of getting a toothe ache. I really think this place is overhyped and wouldn't come back. Maybe it was an off night but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth along with the burnt bread.

Great food, drinks & atmosphere! Went for a friends dinner so we shared apps, pizza & pasta. Whipped ricotta & honey was delicious - highly recommend! Meatballs also tasty. Rainbow Nonna Pie is a MUST!!!!! Might be my favorite pizza in NY

$15 pasta deal on Tuesday is SOOO worth it! We got the Brussel sprouts salad which was super yummy and then 2 pastas. The saffron Gigli pasta is yummy but REALLY sweet so if that's not your jam, I wouldn't get this. We also got this mushroom/truffle pasta which was also super yummy (and it was originally $31 and we got it for $15 which felt like a huge win)! Overall, very very expensive regularly but $15 Tuesday deal is super worth it! Would be back for that :)

Barano gets a solid 3 star rating. In the month of August, Barano had $8 spritzes. My partner and I ordered an original aperol spritz as well as a strawberry spritz. Pretty decent drinks. Time period wise, I went here with my partner sitting restaurant week in August 2025, and we ordered the mozzarella, burrata pizza, carmelle pasta, squid ink bucatini, and a rainbow sundae each. Food wise, pizza was a 4/5. However, the pastas were both sadly overcooked, and not at the el dente texture that we're used to. This place does however, have a great rainbow cookie sundae! It doesn't look very big at first, but this should be shared to avoid an overwhelming sugar rush. Not sure if I'd return, or maybe I'd just stop by to share a rainbow sundae.

We decided to try Barano for restaurant week and mostly their viral rainbow cookie sundae! Upon entering it feels like you are in a wine cellar with rustic decor. Our reservation was for 8pm but we were sat 20 minutes after reso. I attribute it to being restaurant week, as the place was very busy. While awaiting our table we went to the bar to take advantage of the 8 dollar spritz special for August. It was the first time I tried a Hugo spritz, it was amazing- never going back to Aperol! Once we sat our waiter Ivan although he was definitely overloaded took the time out to get to know us personally as a table. He was a great server to have, attune to our needs and pleasant. He even sang a bit for us. As far as the food I'll list my faves- since we got 3 restaurant week menus and 2 extra pastas. My favorite items were: Meatball appetizer- amazing, soft flavorful, tagliatelle bolognese- great sauce flavor, saffron gigli - interesting never tasted something like this before, Denver steak- the sauce it came with for dipping was on umami 10/10. Last but not least of my faves was the rainbow cookie sundae a must have- the meringue on top when mixed with the ice cream was insane!

Great experience here!! We had the Caesar salad, Nduja pizza, saffron pasta - all made gluten free! All were phenomenal!! Drinks were unique and delicious. Service was very attentive and ambiance was nice, low lighting, good music.

Barano was one of the top ten meals I've had this year in the city, hands down! This spot was definitely worth the trek to Williamsburg. I will start out with the only negative comment I have: the drinks were not good. I tried 3 different sips and was not a fan of any of them. I was a bit nervous then about how the meal would be, but it was nothing short of spectacular. ALSO, I was quite disappointed that they got rid of the pasta sampler that was on their previous menu - why would they get rid of something that is such a great idea and would let us try more?? We tried a variety of items, all of which I would recommend ordering: Brussels Sprouts (I'm picky about my sprouts and these were perfect), Delicata Squash (probably seasonal but should stay year round); Caccio e Pepe, Vodka Pizza, and the star of the show, the Saffron Gigli- an absolute must! Dessert was also delicious, loved the Rainbow Cookie Sundae and Chocolate Torte. I can't wait to come back - and will stick to ordering a simple Aperol Spritz next time!

Great food. Will return soon, all pasta is homemade. Wait staff was attentive and very helpful

Bucatini (cacio e pepe) -- which we demolished. And the burrata pizza.

The food was fine (the bucatini was AMAZING, cesar salad was a little small for the price tag). Liked the atmosphere, but the vibe was all wrong. I don't expect quiet, especially on a Friday at 8pm, but it was insanely loud in there. It also didn't help that the tables are teeny tiny and I basically had to pick the table up and move it to get to the bench, so I didn't have to climb on top of the people next to us. Service was okay, a little slow and not really attentive. Definitely the wrong move for an anniversary dinner-- based on vibe and lack of specialness or little touches. Also, my biggest pet peeve-- we arrived on time for our reservation and still had to wait for a table. Which I know isn't entirely the staff's fault (some times tables take a minute to turnover for a number of reasons), but it didn't help an already mid experience.

Food 8/10 A homey and traditional Italian spot located south of Williamsburg. I thought the appetizers were better than the main, and the tiramisu was stellar too - dare I say even the star of the show. The prosciutto was nice to start with, and I quite enjoyed the chewiness of the focaccia. The saffron pasta was quite interesting, although a little too watery for my preference. Atmosphere 8/10 Soft and dim lighting, a relatively large interior, and plenty of great conversations. Dark wooden surfaces, elegant and nothing too fussy. Service 8/10 Our host gave us great thoughts on the different cocktails, very friendly and solid experience overall.

    Jamie L.

I thought the food here was really good. It wasn't authentic, but the textures and flavors were so good. In terms of pricing it's very on par with New York prices. I really enjoyed the ambience and the waiter was very attentive and took care of my gluten-free friend. Unfortunately, one of my friends did get food poisoning from a dish that I did not try. That was obviously really unfortunate and did kind of make the experience less exciting but overall it was enjoyable besides that.

I absolutely love Baranos. Last night was my second time there in the last month. We booked reservations each time and were seated right away. The decor of the restaurant makes it feel very romantic and is chic! The food is absolutely amazing! Everything I have tried there so far has been nothing but the best quality and tastes delicious! Mouth watering actually! I told all my friends about this spot and definitely will keep this as must go to spot Atleast once a month. The waitress was great we had her both times we came in and she explained some menu items we were not sure about. Such a sweetheart! She had our whole table laughing. I love a restaurant that has great staff, food, and atmosphere. This is definitely my top pick in Williamsburg! I definitely recommend this spot to any and everyone! Thank you!

It is definitely the best pizza in the US; I say this even after visiting Frank Pepe and Sally's in New Haven, and it's honestly not even close. On our last day before heading back to SF, we ordered a massive whole pie: half burrata, half pepperoni. It nailed the classic NYC slice with a thin, crisp crust and the perfect balance of cheese and sauce. It was so good that my daughter finished her burrata half over three separate sittings: at the shop, on the plane, and once she got home. The pie just kept calling to her! Be prepared for long lines, but it is worth it (and the Brooklyn location definitely has shorter lines than the Manhattan spots). It's not really a sit-down place, so you just have to grab a spot at the bar-top tables if you can find room. The service was good and fast. The cashier who took our order was amazing--absolutely love her--though she did forget to hand us our chocolate Bombolone. They were doing a great job in managing the crowds with a tight space in insane heat - all that with a smile. Onto the food - I honestly preferred the gelato over the pizza. The pizza wasn't bad - but it wasn't great either. The gelato was perfect for a hot summer day -- the watermelon seasonal option was ideal for a hot summer day. Is the hype and price worth it? Situated at the corner of East 15th Street and Avenue J, the establishment was owned and managed by Domenico DeMarco (1936-2022), but now his family continues that legacy. Food critics and bloggers frequently rank it among the top pizzerias in New York City. Di Fara has received numerous accolades, including being named the "Best pizza in New York" by publications such as New York and Serious Eats. The New York Times described the restaurant as "one of the most acclaimed and sought-after pizza shops in New York City." In 2011, Zagat ranked it as the top pizza restaurant in the city, and in 2013, Frommer's called its pizza "the Best Hand-Made Pizza in New York City." Chef Anthony Bourdain also expressed admiration for the restaurant's pizza. I had long hoped to visit Di Fara, so I decided to make a trip from Connecticut. Upon entering, my son and I observed that it was quite busy. There is also a window for ordering, but we chose to go inside to order our food to experience the atmosphere fully. We each ordered a freshly prepared Sicilian slice. Unlike some places, there was no pre-made pizza on display. Each slice is made to order, and it takes about twenty-five minutes to prepare. When we received our pizza, it was notably greasy. The Sicilian slices resembled a full meal, topped with garlic and pepperoni. The garlic was quite prominent and flavorful, adding a nice punch which I liked. The pepperoni was crispy, and the undercarriage had a nice crunch, though it was also quite oily. In my personal opinion, it wasn't the best slice I've ever tasted. However, I understand that when the owner, Dom, was alive, the pizza was considered exceptional by many. I would rate it around 3.5 stars, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to experience pizza from one of New York's most iconic establishments.

Now back home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the great white north of snow that never ends, I finally tried the frozen Di Fara pepperoni pizza from Target no less. Sorry Joe's, but this is on par with your pizza (if it was frozen). Dave Portnoy was right with his high review. This pizza is very good. The thick cut pepperoni, great basil, and the crisp chewy crust was excellent for a frozen pizza. Nice under carriage as well. I cooked the pizza at 480 degrees in an electric pizza oven for 10 minutes, and the result was very good. I added a drizzle of hot honey, and it was spectacular (okay, I also added some fresh picked jalapeños as well). The pizza was hot and melted in the center, and the crust was very crisp, but still had some chew. Wow. This was the best frozen pizza I have had. Bar none. New York, you spoiled me when it came to pizza. Now I can get a taste of New York at home. Great job! I may or may not eat the last 3 pieces currently sitting in the fridge before bed.

Fresh mozzarella, a nicely thin crisped crust, sweet tomato sauce, and fresh basil makes this simple pizza taste great. The fried calamari also impressed. It tasted notably fresh--light, clean, and not overly chewy like pre-frozen versions can sometimes be. While I can't say for certain, it had that just-prepared quality that makes a difference. The Caprese salad was a great way to start the meal, with fresh tomatoes, creamy burrata, and a balsamic drizzle was a nice light start. The atmosphere leans old-school Italian, which adds to the charm and character. Service was fine--nothing remarkable, but no major issues either. That said, my overall rating takes a big hit solely for the restaurants ridiculous tipping policy choices rather than the food itself. The automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill was frustrating. The menu does indicate that 18%, will automatically apply, or will be 20% for parties of six or more. We were only three people, so it felt inconsistent and unnecessary. On top of that, the added cost for credit card usage didn't help. I don't mind tipping for good service! In fact, I tip well--but I prefer having the choice and I'm old school so it's the principle of the matter. Being forced into it, takes away from an otherwise enjoyable meal. Bottom line: the food is strong and worth trying, but the billing practices leave a bad taste. If those were adjusted, this could easily be a higher-rated experience.
