I came here for the first time and it was amazing! It was a Tuesday, and all pastas were only $15. The table next to us had four plates of pasta for two people. I support this lifestyle. The staff was super polite and friendly, and the restaurant had such great energy. I had a really pleasant time! The Brussels sprouts were delicious. We also shared the rigatoni and the Nonna pizza with pesto. The pizza was SO good--I really loved the buttery crust on the bottom. BUT OMG, THE DESSERT!!! They had a seasonal olive oil cake, but I had my eye on the rainbow cookie sundae. It's $20, but totally worth it. It wasn't overly sweet, and it comes with FIVE rainbow cookies--two on the side and three inside the sundae! I would absolutely recommend Barano to anyone visiting Williamsburg! The restaurant is a bit of a walk from any nearby subway stations, but it's so worth it for great food, amazing service, and pretty views of the water/bridge if you sit outside. The angry nonna pizza was absolutely delicious, with a thick crust that got nicely crispy around the edges and a combination of 3 sauces that worked together beautifully. Both pasta dishes were great, the fettuccine Alfredo is a classic with a luscious creamy sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. But the short rib rigatoni was the unexpected star, with super flavorful meat and the most delicious herby cheesy breadcrumbs on top. The rainbow cookie sundae seemed gimmicky but was the best way to finish our meal, the rainbow cookies are incredible and combined with vanilla ice cream + toasted meringue + tart raspberry jam, it was just a lovely end to the evening. We came here on Wednesday night and it was a really sweet atmosphere. Felt cozy and the staff was very attentive, especially Mamadou. The menu has so many options that I found it hard to choose (which is not a bad thing), but we went with the caesar salad, meatball pie, and gluten free saffron gigli + the rainbow cookie sundae. Caesar salad was delicious but the only caveat was that it was a little small. Wish there was more lettuce on this one! Perfect dressing and light + fresh. Saffron Gigli- was very different, but also good. Glad it was gluten free- it's very sweet tho just as a heads up! Rainbow cookie sundae was also very unique and delicious. First of all, we arrived on time but we waited 45 minutes to be sat down at a table. The restaurant was super busy that night, especially it being a Friday. I would have overlooked the waiting time if it weren't that it took a long time to finally get our orders taken. The waiter was nice and charming the times he did pass by our table. We were even there long enough for when the crowd died down and it was still hard to flag down our waiter or any other one. The ambiance is beautiful with low light dimming and Christmas decorations. You know what wasn't pretty? Our food. It was burnt and at first I couldn't tell because of the lack of lighting but when I took a picture with flash, I noticed the burnt areas around my prosciutto and fig pizza and garlic bread. We could taste it as well. We could have asked for a new order but we didn't want to spend the rest of the night there. So we covered the garlic bread in pesto sauce to make it tasty and ate around the black crusts of the pizza. The combination of fig and prosciutto was delicious. As I mentioned earlier, the best part of the night was the dessert. We loved the rainbow cake sundae and the chocolate cake. The cake was rich in taste but not to the point of getting a toothe ache. Barano gets a solid 3 star rating. In the month of August, Barano had $8 spritzes. My partner and I ordered an original aperol spritz as well as a strawberry spritz. Pretty decent drinks. Time period wise, I went here with my partner sitting restaurant week in August 2025, and we ordered the mozzarella, burrata pizza, carmelle pasta, squid ink bucatini, and a rainbow sundae each. Food wise, pizza was a 4/5. However, the pastas were both sadly overcooked, and not at the el dente texture that we're used to. This place does however, have a great rainbow cookie sundae! We decided to try Barano for restaurant week and mostly their viral rainbow cookie sundae! Upon entering it feels like you are in a wine cellar with rustic decor. Our reservation was for 8pm but we were sat 20 minutes after reso. I attribute it to being restaurant week, as the place was very busy. While awaiting our table we went to the bar to take advantage of the 8 dollar spritz special for August. It was the first time I tried a Hugo spritz, it was amazing- never going back to Aperol! Once we sat our waiter Ivan although he was definitely overloaded took the time out to get to know us personally as a table. He was a great server to have, attune to our needs and pleasant. He even sang a bit for us. As far as the food I'll list my faves- since we got 3 restaurant week menus and 2 extra pastas. I will start out with the only negative comment I have: the drinks were not good. I tried 3 different sips and was not a fan of any of them. ALSO, I was quite disappointed that they got rid of the pasta sampler that was on their previous menu - why would they get rid of something that is such a great idea and would let us try more?? I called on a Thursday asking to make a reservation for the next day at 7pm for 10+ people. There is a $9.95 cancellation/no show fee per person (same on Resy). The staff member I spoke to was really nice and told me that as long as we showed up, they wouldn't charge me a cancellation fee. Day of, we were all running a little late. I called to let Barano know and they said it was completely fine. I arrived a few minutes late and they showed us to a table in the back. It was quieter here which I appreciated for our large group. Some of my group did the restaurant week (RW) menu while the rest ordered off the regular menu. They are doing $8 spritz for August. I tried the barano (strawberry) spritz and the hugo (elderflower) spritz, both were quite good. 4/5 Appetizer: Endive Salad Fresh, a little bitter, great sauce 5/5 Appetizer: Garlic bread I read that this was a $5 add-on for RW but we were charged $12 for each garlic bread. Unsure if I misunderstood the menu. The garlic bread was amazing though. Everyone at the table raved about how good it was. It was pillowy with a nice chew. It looked like there was a greenish base spread across the top and then black garlic sprinkled across the top, centered in the middle. 3.5/5 Entree: Roasted Corn Caramelle The filling didn't have the roasted taste, just creamy sweet corn and felt more like a dessert than a savory entree. The pasta wasn't al dente but that didn't bother me. Overall good but I would have liked an entree to be more savory. *the RW steak is a winner. 1/5 Dessert: Olive Oil Cake I'm usually a fan of olive oil flavored things like cake and ice cream- that is to say I've tried a number of olive oil desserts already. I was expecting a cake with the taste/essence of olive oil, not straight up olive oil lol. Cutting through the center of the cake, you can tell it is dense and a bit saturated with oil... not ideal. There's a marshmallow topping then ice cream, then cake, then a reddish jam (raspberry?) at the bottom. I was only able to have a couple of bites before I tapped out. Service was slow and we could tell our server was stressed and very busy. We later learned that he's usually the bartender and was just helping out because it was so busy. He was so wonderful. One of my friend's pasta orders was input wrong so he gave her spaghetti on the house so she could eat after the rest of us got our food. Then he came back with her actual order later, the lobster pasta. But she said it didn't really taste like anything, she could tell they rushed it. Our server took it off her order and then offered that she order anything else she wanted on the house. I actually brought my friends here because I wanted to try Barano's restaurant week menu for my birthday. One of my friends sneakily told our server and they brought out a rainbow sundae for me to celebrate! I realized later that they charged us for the sundae! I've never seen that happen before in all the years I've celebrated my birthday anywhere, including in NYC. While I appreciate the thought, it left a bad taste in my mouth that they charged us for it, listing it on the receipt as "*THE* Rainbow Cookie Sundae" when we didn't even ask for this. The interior is pretty. It feels rustic and a bit homey. It's somewhat dim here, feeling dressed up in a casual way. The decor of the restaurant makes it feel very romantic and is chic! The food is absolutely amazing! Everything I have tried there so far has been nothing but the best quality and tastes delicious! I thought the food here was really good. It wasn't authentic, but the textures and flavors were so good. In terms of pricing it's very on par with New York prices. I really enjoyed the ambience and the waiter was very attentive and took care of my gluten-free friend. Unfortunately, one of my friends did get food poisoning from a dish that I did not try. I still gave it a try and there was a morbid aftertaste, almost like soap. I can't find another word for it, but it tasted toxic. Tagliatelle Alla bolognese - I didn't think anyone could mess up bolognese, but wow, this was truly mushy and gross. It did not taste fresh at all. The food came fast, it was well packaged in eco-friendly and modernly designed take out containers. What we ordered: -Paccheri ($25) - not on their menu as of late, but these huge pasta pieces are like gigantic flat rigatoni with wild boar sauce. Consistently impressive food. I first visited Barano on a mission to try something new in my neighborhood. It happened to be Pasta Tuesday (all pastas $15). Our server Patrick was funny and so kind. After returning for a third time, I can definitely attest to the quality of service and food you'll get here. As an appetizer I recommend the garlic bread and brussel sprouts. All of the pastas are delicious and freshly made. The saffron gigli is a bit on the sweeter side for my taste but good to share. Excellent take out. I ordered the chicken parmigiana, barano garlic bread and Brussels Sprout Salad and everything was "magically delicious." At first glance, I thought I would hate the chicken parmigiana assuming it was dry as there was minimal sauce. It was served like a pizza which I had never seen done before. To my surprise it was perfect. The chicken had a crisp to the edge but was still juicy and flavorful. You could tell they used high quality ingredients. That barano garlic bread? Chef's kiss. Stumbled into here for dinner one night - we ordered a large nduja pizza because the ingredients sounded really interesting. Unfortunately, it just wasn't great. The nduja wasn't evenly distributed and was kinda just in random clumps on the pizza. The pie was also DRIPPING in honey which made it disgustingly syrupy instead of adding a slight hint of sweetness. Hoping it was just an off night & would deff give it another shot. read more
