I have been noticing the buzz about this place for a while now and I had to go check it out. I think the spot was strategically placed near the Amazon campus in the SLU side. The cafe is small and has limited seating but is perfect for their regulars who are mostly Amazonians frequenting for chai breaks and getting to go orders. I like the nook at the entrance with the potted plants. Super cute and there is a spot to sit right there, perfect for an Instagram shot. I chose the vada pav and the mango lassi. I was surprised that they offered options for the lassi to be substituted with almond milk and coconut yoghurt. My gut and I were very happy. Vada pav can be chosen with either a tamarind chutney or a pudina chutney(mint) with peanuts . I chose the latter. The total was $9.x I think they have food brought in from a canteen(where the food is prepared) so they run out of things fairly quickly. I was surprised at the portion of the vada pav. I hadn't had lunch so this ended up being perfect. Along with mango lassi I couldn't finish my plate. I returned again to try their upma and I was delighted by the simplicity and the authenticity. 4 stars for amazing customer service and for the concept. I ordered vada and sambar with chutney. The food was decent and I do allow for the fact that it is Indian inspired rather than authentic, something other patrons should pay attention to. Even with that there's a combination of seasoning spices, like salt that were off. I also was looking forward to the S Indian filter coffee and felt a little let down but that may be my own personal problem with expectations. Something about water slowly filtering through freshly ground coffee and chicory with fresh milk that's hard to reproduce, I suppose. They have the authentic filters for sale and I was able to get close at home. Loved the ambience and will be back to try other items on the menu. read more

Been here twice, and was disappointed both times. Service was slow both times with zero sense of urgency from the workers. Today, 06/28/2019, was the worst. Took them close to 15 minutes to make three drinks. Prices are typical SLU prices, but the drinks are not good. read more

Lassi & Spice is a unique concept, offering indian small plates & beverages in an eclectic space. For all the attention to decor, most of the food fails to impress, though the beverages are good. From their menu, the vada pav is superb. Great tasting and the chutneys are on point, though slightly on the spicy side. Other than this, their poha is pretty good. Very simply prepared, but well done. And again, this isn't readily available anywhere. Their chaat, which seems to have been taken off the menu, is also notable. On the other hand, most of the other dishes I've had here have been mediocre. The upma was lackluster and not well salted. The vada sambar was menial, with some of the smallest vadas I've ever been served. The sambar was okay-ish, but the coconut chutney had a strong smell of coconut oil. The indian tea, coffee, and lassis are great, but not something you can have regularly. However, they're all well made. The portions are pretty small and priced accordingly, so expect to order at least 3 portions per person for a filling meal. Overall, a place I'd recommend trying out but not frequenting. read more

A corner space on Fairview, small for seating but it has a range of indian snacks with chai and filter kaapi with a mix of lattes as well. We had the vada pav which are bite sized but really tasty. The filter kaapi was good too, took a while to receive it though. They have general items like poha, upma ,idli-samanar , vada pav etc. A good place to hangout for snacks and coffee. One of the worst service experience ever. The cashier was rude as hell while taking the order. Then when my food came out, I asked if it came with a side of chutney (as is typical of what I ordered). She yelled back, and was like what did you order? What are you saying? I was very clear and calm, and said you just gave me my order 2 seconds ago, and said what it was. Then she said buy chutneys if you want! They also forgot my lassi. I feel bad I left a tip for them while ordering because the rude b**** looked at me like it's expected. The food? Mediocre at best. The vada pav here is consistently excellent, and the primary motivator for my boyfriend to exercise! He used to complain about my dragging him on 40 minute walks but now he will gladly take that walk if it ends in picking up vada pav! This week he even initiated the walk, that's how much he loves the vada pav. Thank you Lassi and Spice! Everything else I have had here is pretty okay, and some dishes are bad. Avoid the medhu vada, tasted bread-like, wasn't crispy or fried the way I expected, coconut chutney had also gone bad/tasted metallic. The one thing I would ask is for the people taking the order to repeat back the order to make sure it is correct. The person taking our order forgot to add an item and we ended up waiting 30 min for a dish that we had to reorder and wait for again. Mistakes happen so it's understandable, repeating back the order would help prevent misunderstandings. Other than that, I love the concept of this place and hope that it makes it through the pandemic. read more

I went there for their vada pav but oh man they are terrible. First they are always late for their orders, their service is terrible and they mixed up our order. We placed an online order and we still had to wait 25 mins for vada pav that they just took out and microwaved. The samosa and vada pav were stale and I would not order again. We went to the cafe in Wallingford- cozy, clean. The pongal, upma and sambar had authentic flavors and mild heat. We also enjoyed the spiciest of the masala chai. Portions were good. We look forward to trying some of their other offerings. Very glad they are in Seattle. read more

We went all the way from Bellevue to try out this place. A couple of things they do have going for them are that their menu is one of a kind, there are not many places in SLU serving similar food and the prices are competitive. We went there on a Thursday around 5.25 pm and they were out of almost all food. We only got to try their masala chai, mango lassi, upma and gulab jamun(indian sweet of the day). The location and set up is really cute and no complains about the service. My main complain was with the food. It feels like a dialed down version of the indian preparations flavor-wise. The lassi lacked mango flavor and while I understand why the sweetness level is low, it was really less sweet, like having yogurt mixed with a very little mango pulp. The chai was really milky and did not taste close to the indian chai at all. The upma really lacked seasoning. We had to add salt to be able to finish eating it. If I worked or lived close to SLU I would maybe go back before/after work for a quick snack if I felt really lazy to cook and to try more of their dishes. But I feel like I would easily be able to cook most of the things they serve with very little effort at home. Not worth a second visit for me! read more

It's hard to justify the prices here. Super easy to spend $10+ on a small latte and a treat; $4 for a parantha is particularly steep. Food and beverages are all pretty good, but hardly exemplars. With one of the key draws to this place being Lassi, I was deeply disappointed by my experience. It was shocking to me that it took 5+ minutes for a lassi to be made (and this was at 1:30pm when the lunch crowd had died down) and it was expensive for what it was and completely lacked flavor. When I order a mango lassi, I expect that rich sweetness of the mango to come through and needless to say I ended up throwing away my lassi - a first in my life. On the plus side, I really like their decor and concept, I just think their execution needs work and their operations need to scale better, particularly feeding the Amazon lunch crowd. read more

I am rating this place on potential and not actual experience. Completely understand that they are working through initial issues. For example, they gave us someone else's order, the coffee drinks for 4 people all arrived at different times and almost 15 in apart for each, portion sizes are small.
