We came around 5:15 pm on a Friday and were able to get a table easily. The staff was friendly and efficient. I rarely visit vegetarian restaurants, so I ordered based on the pictures on the menu. I wanted to try the Purple Yam Soup after the server confirmed that it would be very fulfilling, but they came back and said it wasn't available that day. We still enjoyed all the other dishes we ordered, though. The mango smoothie was also very refreshing. The restaurant was clean and cutely decorated. I was traveling in a group of 6 to Renton, WA, and we stopped by Blossom Vegetarian as our first stop in the Evergreen State. One member of the group is vegetarian, hence a reason why we ended up going to a vegetarian restaurant for our first meal during our trip. Blossom Vegetarian is located on the southwest corner of 3rd and Burnett. We came in three cars, and the lot immediately in front of the restaurant can only hold about a dozen cars. The adjacent lot has more spots, but all three of us were able to find spots easily when we arrived. That's likely because we had arrived a few minutes prior to opening, so the door was locked when I tried to open it. Right at 11 AM, an employee came out with a signicade to place in front of the front door. Shortly afterwards, we entered and sat at a table for 8, which I found kind of odd because they had tables of 4 and 8, but not 6. Our table had a sign advertising a limited time special, which was Hanoi Beef Fried Rice at the time*. However, we were interested in the lunch specials, which were available weekdays from 11 AM to 2 PM. Knowing that our schedule wouldn't have allowed for a lunch special any other time during our trip, we went for lunch specials, which mainly consists of rice combos. Rice combos at Blossom Cafe come with rice, either jasmine or brown, the latter of which would incur a $1 upcharge. The combo also includes an option for a juice or coffee, and if you choose either, you get $1 off. With plenty of rice combos to choose from, two of them chose the same lunch combo while the rest of us went with different lunch combos, but shared family-style with one another. I chose the Blossom Rice Combo, which consists of shredded "pork", tofu pie, "beef" skewer, and vegetables alongside a lime vinaigrette dressing. I'm not too certain of the other combos, but I do know that the Cashew Chicken was another combo, and that's because one of my groupmates heard it was their most popular dish. Since I prefer brown rice over white (jasmine) rice, I opted for the $1 upcharge for the brown rice. Between the coffee and the juice, I went with a coffee since I was needing some after a long morning of traveling. They have four choices of Vietnamese Coffee: Cheese Cafe, Cafe Latte, Dalgona Cafe, and Cafe Sua. I went with the Cafe Latte, which consists of both condensed and whole milk. The coffee drinks can come either hot or iced. For whatever reason, everybody else ordered the iced drinks, but I went with hot knowing I'd have to brave the pretty chilly weather outside. It took about 13 minutes for the kitchen to prepare our orders, and then we feasted! The coffee was ready about a minute before the main dishes arrived. Everything tasted good, but I wouldn't say great, though that's probably because I'm not vegetarian. However, rest assured that all their meats aren't real meat, and this is indicated by the use of quotation marks encompassing the meat names. You can definitely tell these meats are truly vegetarian, though it took a few bites for me to discern the vegetarianism of the "beef" skewer. The brown rice tasted kind of odd. I don't quite know how to describe it, but it was way different than the brown rice I'm used to e.g. Flame Broiler. The rice tasted pretty meh by itself, but exhibited a much more elevated flavor profile after adding the lime vinaigrette, which I'm thinking was actually a fish sauce. But that Cafe Latte was smoooooooooooth. Just what I needed after not getting enough z's the previous evening. Since I ordered mine hot, my coffee came in a mug while the others who ordered iced coffee got theirs in a wine glass. These coffees supplemented the glasses of water we were given when we placed our orders. Service, unfortunately, was quite slow, so exercise patience! We were the first customers to eat there, and there were a few others who came in after we did. We stayed there for over an hour even though I think we could have gotten in and out in much less time. They didn't really check on us even though there were very few other customers inside as well; I guess we were supposed to proactively go up to the counter to let them know when we were ready to order as well as pay. 2026 calendars were available for purchase at a cost of $20, cash only. I don't know how many people would constitute a "large" party, but we were considered one, which resulted in an 18% gratuity fee that was already added to our individual bills. One of our groupmates, who was fluent in Vietnamese, needed to let the server know prior to paying. So overall, Blossom Vegetarian is a decent spot for vegetarians; I just wouldn't recommend for a quick lunch break since service is nowhere near as quick. * My visit was back in November. I always get the bun Bo hue & this mango salad with tofu here. A must for those. But their food options never do me wrong. I am always pleased with their recipes whenever I leave. This time, we got the salted lemon drink and a strawberry tea one and that was way tooooo sweet. So heads up on that and ask for it less sweet. The sugar amount is as if it was for 3 drinks. We started off with a passionfruit mojito, lychee mojito, and a Hanoi iced tea - all refreshing, fruity, and welcome on a hot day. The blossom bun dac biet was next-level with a yummy mock meat skewer, crispy spring roll, 2 types of noodles, herb salad, and lots of peanuts. The pho was steamy and full of veggies, "chicken nuggets" were dangerously snackable, and the sweet & sour "chicken" was tangy and full of pineapples and peppers. There were a few fun desserts on the menu, like mango purple sticky rice, but I was too full! My kids had the other dishes and they enjoyed it as well and we will definitely be eating here more often. I ordered online. Food was ready quickly. Their service is good. I will recommend them for their honest and humble service. However, the food is not worth the trip. The restaurant is spacious and pretty. But I wish the chef put an effort on the quality and flavors of the food. The oil is smelling and overused.. I can't eat any of their fried dishes because of the oil. The portion of veggie pan noodle was decent at the same time, the stir fry portion was too small for one. I tried and failed to touch the pan fried noodles and stuffed myself with vegetables. The fried spring rolls were soaked in oil, broken and fried to turn them black.. the place was definitely not worth the trip for me. The only saving grace was their service and all vegetarian menu. Plant based protein is the USP of this restaurant. All dishes prepared are named after a meat like chicken, lamb, pork etc but it's not real meat rather an imitation of it. I have heard a lot about Blossom but don't get to Renton much, so was so excited to check it out! I am a longtime vegetarian and we have an ever dwindling supply of vegetarian restaurants. We found Blossom moderately busy on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated right away but food took a VERY long time to come--I am talking like 20-30 minutes. This seemed to be the case for everyone around us as well. We weren't in a hurry so it was ok. But that's a long time to wait. I got Lemongrass Tofu which was good but a tad oily. My partner got the General Tso's "Chicken" which we both liked a lot. Portions are GIANT. The space is large and tidy. The menu has lots of great options. We got three appetizers to split between us: Thit & Nam Nuong (the beef, mushroom, and bell peppers skewers). Simple, versatile and good, with or without sauces. This could go with anything. Cha Dum (Tofu pie)-as someone who does not like tofu, I could not get enough of this pie and it was hard to share! I loved the flakiness and savoriness of this. It took to all the sauces well, and had a mild but pleasant flavor on its own. I loved the chips to the side too-more of these please! Chem Chep Chien Gion-the house "mussels". I loved their take on a mussel! These have a nice sea-like, savory flavor and a crispy and chewy texture. The sea flavor is subtle. This was a little bit of a wild card but it paid off. what an incredible place !! it's so peaceful and tranquil in the space and the decor is just so lovely. the Ban Hoi platter was stunning. it came with plenty of veggies, veg viet ham, and a skewer. i was so tripped out by how the flavor and texture reminded me so much of the meat versions. the portion was perfect for my partner and i, and we still had leftovers. the mackerel platter came with sautéed peppers and other veggies and very well sauced as well. i appreciated how the "fish" had a seaweed-like layer to imitate fish skin. I came here intending to have a nice evening; this place was terrible. I ordered the tofu pho and the mushrooms tasted fishy, which meant they were rancid. It took over 20 minutes for someone to come by with water, and another 15 minutes for a server to take our order. There were two tables that were seated well after us, and they got their food first a good 10 minutes or more before we did--which is the same time they finally gave us our tea. Took another 20 minutes of very intense and failed eye contact after we finished our meal before the check came. Terrible service. What made it interesting was that there was a bird trapped inside the restaurant, flying back and forth in a panic. I felt bad for the poor creature and I hope they let it out soon, and also hope it doesn't have rabies. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because the tea was good, and also because I haven't gotten food poisoning yet. I prefer an extra beef skewer instead of the shredded pork. Their beef skewers are such an amazing meat replacement! It reminds me of a mix of Korean BBQ short ribs and teriyaki beef/chicken. The best not "meat" I've had so far! I enjoy their house fried rice as well! The meat reminds me of a mix of spam and teriyaki chicken. It's a good crowd pleaser for people with different taste buds. I would love to try their pho and curry one day! They have a nice selection of juices, teas, cocktails, and wines. I like the vietlime juice it's a mix of fresh squeezed lime juice, sparkling water, and just a teench of sweetness. It can be very punchy and tart but I personally like the flavor! Been coming here for years.... Not sure I'll ever come back. Went today as we hadn't been in a while. And I was craving their Mango Salad. We were seated at a table that was very tacky to the touch. The "specials" plastic holder on the table was so sticky it stuck to my hand - Gross! Then I looked up and the wall was covered in food and had a big drip under the hanging wood & plastic light box frame. The light box itself was disgustingly dirty. I wish they had served extra dressing with the salad as they usually do, it could have used more dressing but still delicious. The Cashew Nut Chicken was great I'm looking at all this and wondering if this is how the dining room looks like - what's going on in the kitchen????!!!!! Wiping down the tables is just basic restaurant cleaning. Checking the walls for food splatter would help. I'm just wondering how they pass inspections? This dirty experience just really put me off. We ordered Blossom Vermicelli Combo, Blossom Clay Pot, Sesame Beef and General Tsos Chicken w 1 rice. We shared all meals together. My next friend tasted Sesame Beef and said, no taste. I also tasted four dishes immediately. Blossom Vermicelli Combo was watery and tasteless. Sesame Beef had very little flavor and the broccoli was just boiled taste. Blossom Clay Pot has a strong flavor and should be eaten with rice. As for Tsos Chicken, the fried chicken was tender and tasty but the other vegetables were bland. I was very disappointed. All my friends left the vegetables and they told me taste not so good. I was so embarrassed. I had to go to the counter and pay because they didn't even come to take my payment. The food here is delicious. I've tried many dishes and some are just okay but I think it's a matter of preference like with any food. My two favorite dishes are the spicy lemongrass chicken and the general tso's chicken. The texture of the meat is amazing. I used to be vegan when I found it but since I eat meat and still go out of my way from federal way to eat here. I also love their spring rolls and I'd put done the sesame beef(it does have a bit of a sweet cinnamon flavor profile that hasn't always been my friend's favorite). You do not come for good service or comfortable chairs. It is also something not the cleanest space. Just know going here you'll likely get just meh service. Absolutely love the food here! For being fully vegetarian, even my meat-loving husband loved it! Our absolute favorite is the Sautéed "Beef" Vermicelli Noodle Salad bowl. It's truly amazing and so flavorful! We also enjoyed the Pho, fresh spring rolls, and Thai Iced Tea. Although the food is amazing, service was sort of lacking. Hardly anyone checked on us, it took a long time to get our orders placed, we didn't get offered water refills, and it took quite a long time to get the check and boxes to take food home.
