The Shelbourne Spa is not actually in the hotel, but three doors down to the right. I've never noticed it before as it blends in as one if the big Victorian style houses but it's really easy to find. The spa is actually upstairs but you have full use of the leisure club facilities when using the spa and these are on the ground floor. In terms of decor, it is every bit as elegant as the hotel, with big chandeliers and plush furniture. When you check in you are brought to change into your robe and slippers before being led to the relaxation room which looks over Stephen's Green, which I loved. If I'm honest, I've been in better relaxation rooms, this one was very bright and probably would have been relaxing if it wasn't for a group of really loud talkers. This wasn't the staff's fault but tainted the experience a little for me. In terms of refreshments there was a selection of teas, some small nibbles and water. Also, after your treatment you get a tasting plate of fruit, juice and sorbet. I opted for the 'Tropical' which consisted of pineapple juice, kiwi and coconut sorbet and it was delicious. The highlight for me was the treatment though. I received a gift of the "Celebratory Spa Package" which consisted of an Elemis facial and a hot- stone back massage. Both of these were excellent, the therapist was lovely and spoke me through the products she used afterwards. The one criticism I would have would be that it's quite expensive at €129 for the package which only lasted an hour. I would have expected it to last a little longer at this price. With the excellent staff, treatments and location I would definitely go back, but I think I'd be waiting for a special occasion!

Let me tell you feeling a popping sensation in your back is not hot. Having a masseuse take a focused battle to those muscles incites a range of emotions, such as you want her to win but you want her to stop too (she did ask me to speak up if the pressure was too much, so you do have control). "What popped?" "Oh that's just your muscles you have lots of knots. I am pushing them back were they should be." "Oh." "You are very tense." "I'm sorry." Why did I just apologise I asked myself. She looked at me with the same thought. "So yeah, you should do this more often." "OK." "Also you probably will be very sore tomorrow so get some anti-inflammatory cream." At this point you may be thinking, "Jez Annie you really sold this place to me and the massage." It was 20% bearable pain for me and the rest was very relaxing, also I opted for a deep tissue massage which as the name implies is not going to be sweetness and light. I also appear to be a very uptight person with an extraordinarily tense body. I have Woody Allen muscle tendencies. €60 for 1 hour. I made an appointment to get a 30min back massage in my lunch break the other day. My therapist was the lovely Laura who brought me to the relaxation area first and then offered me a robe. I told her I was on my break and needed to go back to the office so she tailored her usual routine to suit my schedule without compromising on time spent on my back. The massage itself was very good, good pressure and little talking - just the way I Iike it. The spa offers different deals depending on the weekday and they do run a loyalty scheme for returning clients. I will certainly be back soon and I will reserve the last star for when I tried one of their facials.

My massage therapist was knowledgeable and excellent (can't exactly recall her name, but I do know she is apparently the head massage therapist at this spa). I would not miss a chance to go here if in Dublin. It was among my top 5 experiences of our trip to Ireland. If you are coming over from the USA or far away as I was (going east is particularly brutal as any traveler will tell you), book ahead and be completely satisfied and find 100% relief from what ails you. I have been to the spa several times with either my daughter or husband and we have managed to enjoy several of their services (salt room, presso therapy, flotation table, and sauna room) in addition to their basic massage. There was no music because apparently their radio was broken. Given that when I book a massage, I am usually super looking forward to it, this was a disappointment.

I had a photoshoot and went there to get my eyebrows shaped. Firstly, I had to buy a mask that gave a big rash around my mouth, then I felt a lot of pain after the work underneath my eyebrows. I thought it was just because my skin was somehow more sensitive than normal but I found out the next day, I had a very bad burn under my eyebrows. I contacted them initially about the issue with the mask, just to alert them and help other customers and I got an email with a long explanation of how it was not caused by them and how other people were not affected. So I thought it was pointless to tell them about the severe burn I had. The pictures are attached. Today is day 5 and it still hurts quite a lot.

Who…read moredoesn't :) 1* For the response time : It's Wednesday night and I browsing on my phone, in my bed, for a spa close from where I live and with treatment at a reasonable price. That's when I remember a poster I saw along the Luas line advertising a new Spa in Smithfield. I check on facebook, here they are ! 10.15pm : I decide to enquire about body wraps 10.30pm : I get a response that they do provide this treatment 10.45pm : I have an appointment for Thursday evening at 6pm 11pm : I fall asleep, content 1* For the reception area : As soon as I entered the Spa I felt overwhelmed by peace. The place is quiet and warm. Perfect combination. The beauty therapist is waiting for me to fill in some health related details - compulsory before starting any treatment. They even offer me some water without me asking. 1* For the changing room : The therapist shows me the locker I am going to use and explains what I need to do. The room is not very big but it has a locker with 8 section, for 8 clients at the same time. Each locker has a cosy bathrobe, some biodegradable underwear and slippers. There is also a chair in the room. 1* For the beauty room : When I am ready changing, the therapist shows me the way to the beauty room. The place is new and clear and well presented. The therapist explains the procedure for the treatment and then leaves the room while I slip under the towel on the beauty bed. There are plenty of little lights on the ceiling. I prefer to think of them as stars, that's the romantic me talking. 1* For the treatment : The first part is scrubing. I am on my back. Every limb is scrubbed thoroughly. I really appreciated that the therapist took the time to uncover every part one at a time. She even took special care to hide my chest with a smaller towel so that we could scrub my stomach without reveiling anything else. Then I turned over and again she scrubbed. Once this was done, I was invited to go in the shower area (in the room of course) and rince off all the product. There was a hand towel to help me, a bath towel waiting for me after the shower and an extra pair of underwear. She paid special attention to clean my feet before anything so I would slide on the floor. The rest of the treatment was smooth. I was covered in a very moisturising cream/mask which was applying with a relaxing massage. I was finally wrapped in a warm blanket over the towel. While I was 'cooking' the therapist gave me a scalp massage, which she had asked me permission for earlier in the procedure. Simply amazing. 1* For the timing : 75 minutes of pure heaven. 1* For the overall experience : I am so happy of how it all went. I left definitely relaxed and happy. I come here to have my spray tan done because it is a good price €30 for a full body St Tropaz tan, and it is hand done by one of the highly trained girls who get it spot on. I always look good after I get my tan done here! And they understand about drying times and will get your clothes for you and let you stand and dry off in private first even holding your towel out for you, then you can stay and relax for as long as you like afterwards! As Thursday night is tanning night make sure you book ahead, or just choose another day!

Admittedly, when you first walk in, the decorations around give you a bit of an odd vibe when you first walk in. However, I have been to loads of different yoga and meditation centres that were low cost decorated in the same way, so I didn't think too much of it. I didn't realise at first there was a waiting room if you walk past the desks of entry way; but I was sat down, given forms to fill out, and the flotation tank was explained to me. I had tried the flotation therapy simply because I had heard it was a neat thing to try. It was a bit of a weird experience being in a deprivation tank, but I'm still glad I did it. There is a bathroom and a shower in the same room, so that you can shower both before entering and afterwards. Shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were provided. I brought my own towel, but you can rent one for two euros. Afterwards I had a holistic massage by Amy. I have to say, this was one of the best massages I've ever had. Granted, I've only had a few massages, so I'm not very experienced in that department, but she explained everything she was doing and made me feel very comfortable. Because I've had some musculoskeletal problems, certain parts of my back and arms were very sensitive. She often made sure I was okay, and if the tenderness became too much, she would move to another area to give that part of the muscle a break. All and all, I really liked this place. They're affordable, and the massage was great. They also give you a "frequent visitor" card where after so many visits you get 20 euro off a treatment. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was because the decor can be a bit off putting, but otherwise this place is great!
