I agree that this falls isn't as big or great as Multnomah (which is super crowded and touristy) BUT I actually preferred going to Latourell Falls! You can get right underneath/at the base of the waterfall and that experience in and of itself is amazing and super fun!! I got pretty soaked! Beautiful, peaceful, and again, lots of fun. It's a nice waterfall but compared to others in the area, it's just ok. It's easy to get to from the parking lot but after seeing the others, it's sort of a let down (relatively speaking). I would still stop by after hitting up Oneonta, Multonomah, Triple Falls etc. The other falls either had fuller water falls, more picturesque background settings, better hikes, etc. With that said, you can expect this to be pretty busy during the tourist season so arrive early / prepared (also the parking lot is fairly small compared to the other water falls on this set - fyi). In terms of location, it was the closest waterfall from Portland but unfortunately, the road west was closed so I had to drive east a few miles to get back on the highway to get back to Portland. read more

Beautiful falls without all the crowds like you find at Multnomah! Nice paved short trail to get to the falls, but every step of the way is scenic and beautiful. You can quickly hear the gushing water coming from the falls as you approach. There's a placard at the start of the trail so you can learn about the history of the falls. You can even get a pretty good picture standing from the parking lot/road, for those who want to make a really quick stop out of it. If you come early you have a great chance of finding parking. You get to drive over the old, moss covered bridge which is really cool. read more

We went to 3 of the Colombia River Gorge's waterfalls, and the Latourell Falls was the best of all of them. It's a little small hike to reach the lower falls, and I'm pretty sure a longer hike to reach the upper falls, but the lower falls was all I needed to see. We got to the falls and went down the small little cliff to actually get to the bottom of it, and it felt so nice just to be alone in nature with such a beautiful waterfall right next to you. It was only us when we first got there, but we saw 2 other cars when we got back to the parking lot. If you want to get away from all the tourist at the Multnomah Falls, definitely check this place out. read more

Just did this hike today. Myself, my husband, my 18 month old, and a few friends went on this 2.5 ish mile hike. It was a little steep on the incline and declining areas, which made it a little intense with the baby and no carrier, but that was our fault. Our jogging stroller would have been really intense so it was a blessing the tires ended up being flat. We saw several families with smaller children and back pack carriers. I would say it was moderate and it was a beautiful view from several areas. The traffic was moderate. There were times where some areas of the trail were congested, but everyone was in good spirits and seemed to be enjoying their adventure. Overall, we had a great time here. read more

Due to fires, the trails for Multnomah Falls were closed sadly. But Latourell Falls, only a few miles away is a cool, rustic, pretty site to see. The hike to the top and back is an easy 2 mile loop. The water streaming down throughout the Forrest is beautiful and almost majestic. The falls itself is a great site. If you get too close you will get soaked but it's worth it. BEUATIFUL place. Do not follow the yelp directions!!!!! Takes you to a sketchy ass place. My boyfriend and I almost abandoned our car and walked to the falls bc that's what the maps told us to do. I LOVE THIS PLACE ! I NEVER WANT TO LEAVE! I came here with some friend on a trip to Portland and it was the perfect hike for the time frame that we had. We came in April and it was still a bit rainy - but totally perfect. The trail is super duper easy and is a circle. There is a slight incline right away depending on which way you start to go up the trail. However, it's nothing super difficult. Everything is super green and LUSH! The waterfall is beautiful and if you take the entire trail you will see another water fall. There is an area that you can walk across a tree stump and cut the trail but if you do that then you won't see the larger waterfall up close! There are so many beautiful areas to stop and take photos. I would recommend this hike for anyone who only has a couple hours open in their day to enjoy a nice easy but beautiful hike. There is a lot of parking available and if you go early you can miss all the other tourists. We arrived at about 930 and when we left around 11 there were bus loads of people coming. read more

Fantastic trail! Comparable to Wahclella trail but deep in the ferns & lush greenery!! Raspberries & wildflowers dot the path. Steep & wide at first, then narrows. You cross many cute bridges and hear the sounds of the creek the whole way to the large waterfall. The waterfall is impressive with a heavy flow into a nice pool. A bit slippery right at falls. It's a 2.2 mile hike loop. On the way back (after big falls) it starts to fork in a few places, keep to the left bigger trail. Don't get worried if the trail goes upward a while before going down, just keep to the left. It ends at the road, go right to get back to parking lot. read more

If you mapquest or google directions to this location it might provide you with the wrong directions. Make sure you keep driving a little ways until you see a small parking lot that says Latourell Falls. Kid and dog friendly hike. We brought our 4 year old son and our 3 month old puppy on the hike to the lower and upper Latourell Falls. If you are not keen on hiking the 2.5 miles hike to upper Latourell Falls (highly recommended) then doing a short hike down the lower Latourell Falls would be best for you (which is right down the parking lot). There you can also witness the up close and personal first waterfall on site. If you have extra time - highly recommend hiking the upper Latourell Falls which is above the ramp by the parking lot next to the restrooms. The 2.5 mile hike took our family of 2 adults, 1 toddler, and a puppy about 1.5 hours to complete the loop hike. The walk was fantastic with some of the BEST breathtaking views. I think the second waterfall (upper Latourell Falls) is the most beautiful. Don't forget to bring your camera and phone to take a photo! :) There is a great view at the top with a bench for people to relax and enjoy! You can choose this part to turnaround or complete the entire loop. During this upper loop walk trail, make sure you are holding your child's hand (if younger) because certain trails are pretty narrow, with many rocks and sharp edges where it is not safe for a child to get close to. Also, beware of poison oaks!!!!! After the hike, our son started to get itchy with rashes all over his body. Apparently, our puppy was all over the trail and may of accidentally touched the poison oaks along the way. Animals can spread this to humans by the oils on their fur when transferred from the plants. Make sure you pay attention to the trails!!! At one point towards the end we thought we were going in circles and there were other trails with no signs to get us back to the parking lot so we had to take a wild guess. Luckily we were not the only ones on the trail and the people behind us were getting lost also. There was a smaller trail with heavy brushes which we thought was suspect after passing Loop Trail so we crossed over a big tree trunk across the creek back to the beginning of the hike to get back to the parking lot. Phew! We made it back in one piece! Overall, this hike is highly recommended for all ages. We have seen kids of all ages and dogs on lease while on the trail. Recommend hiking during late morning or early afternoon to avoid the traffic with finding parking and on trail. Also, even though most of the trail is shaded; best to come early before the hot Sun set in the summertime during the day. read more

Beautiful trail and waterfall but LISTEN TO THE OTHER REVIEWERS: on the way back, take the trails that go UP, it seems counterintuitive but that's how you get back. if it starts getting sketchy and narrow you are probably going the wrong way. What a great little hike this is. The fact it was a sunny, sunny day combined with the residual effects of a long, dreary winter might have boosted the hike's rating a bit, but it's at least a 4.5. As a "loop" hike the recommendation we had was to do the hike in a clockwise fashion. Absolutely the right approach I'd say. The east side of the path (the way up) is rockier and slightly more difficult to traverse, with the west side seemingly less rocky, and slightly less scenic. The path itself is comfortably wide, with few if any spots where the "-off-eek factor" was much noticeable.The upper falls were stunning with all the water that a mid March day would normally produce. In my old fossil hike rating book this should have come out as MODERATE, but other than the first 10 minutes Latourell was easy. Just a great hike! read more

Besides being beautiful, Latourell Falls is great in that it's not really a hike. You just walk down a very, very, very short path and you're face-to-face with the waterfall. I suppose there's other hiking to be had in the vicinity, as this is the gorge, but I've always just pulled up to a parking space and strolled to the falls. Of course, you want to watch out for stumbling giant people, who could knock you off a ledge (nearly happened to me). Definitely worth a visit! read more

I love this particular falls along the old historic highway that runs into the Columbia Gorge. The drive itself is beautiful! But once you hit the falls!! WOW!! There are many falls that you can hit that lead up to Multnomah falls, Latourell Falls is the last one out before you go hit Vista House or the first one in after you hit Vista House depending on which way you are coming. There are a few ways you can view Latourell Falls, you can hike up to the top, and or you can walk right up to the actual falls, on a hot day believe me walking in and around and behind them is just AWESOME!! There is something that is just magical about this particle falls that catches me every time. I just absolutely love coming here. Now that I'm actually learning professional photography I can't wait to get better pics of this. My tripod had some mishaps.. Trust me, you need a tripod to get the right affect of the water! So I will be back and I will be posting some amazing shots! read more

A pretty easy hike with a good size waterfall. Last went 6/12 and the parking lot was closed off for repaving.
