It was a bit tight / cramped (my picnic table was virtually on top of the neighbor's sewer line), but the neighbors were friendly and everything was clean and well-kept. The restrooms and showers were spotless. Cute playground - we loved the pirate ship. The pond was a great place to walk our dog, and it seemed like most people (like us) were cleaning up after their pets because we didn't see dog piles everywhere like many other campgrounds in the area. One warning: This place is surrounded by a pond, a lake, and plenty of forest, and has a serious (but understandable) mosquito problem. We tried to sneak in eating 2 slices of pizza quickly upon arrival before putting on bug spray, and my youngest son got 14 bug bites on his legs in less than half an hour. Beware and plan accordingly! I'd highly recommend long sleeves, long pants, and shoes and socks, even if it's hot outside. Biggest qualm: my son was crying for the last 10 minutes of our drive because he was going to pee his pants and this is in the middle of nowhere - we hadn't seen a gas station or anywhere legal for him to go "number 1" since leaving I94. I'll admit I drove 15mph in a 10mph zone on the way in, because the map showed a bathroom next to the pool on the entrance road (before any of the campsites, before any pedestrian areas), and I wanted to avoid a pee-pee incident. After dropping them off, I stuck to the speed limit even when it dropped to 5mph. I was chastised (politely) upon check-in to watch my speed, which is completely reasonable. Separately, someone ran up to my wife and child (neither of whom were driving) as my 5-year-old came out of the bathroom and yelled at them, which is not okay. There are good ways to handle an admonition, and bad ways, and whoever yelled at my wife and son needs to learn a bit of tact. This is the only reason our stay wasn't a 5-star experience. It wasn't an isolated or stranger incident as the yeller was also the person who called the front desk to complain about it and I'm certain was a local / seasonal / permanent resident. There's "enforcing rules" and then there's "yelling at children for something they had no control over," and the management here was much closer to the latter.

Also the shower and sinks were full of minute flies because it was dirty and stunk of poop. After the second day of poop mountain my husband had to line the toilet seat because of urine droplets on the seat. Totally disgusting! The wood pile had a few red bags of wood but also carpenter wood which is seasoned and can't be burnt for health concerns, and they were charging $7/ bag. The new owner is mid 20's and appears to be more concerned about entertaining friends/family as these people are there quite often. There are NO flat sites so be forewarned. I'm sure previous 3 generations are extremely disappointed. We were as campers...we won't be back.

I do NOT recommend this campground ! The owner can be rude,…read moreto all ages of people. The owner is a heavy drinker, and doesn't care how or what he says to his campers. This is a very clicky park, most campers are very nice. As a seasonal camper you must be a drinking buddy of the owner, or stay on his good side, or he will kick you out on the spot. Had him sell our park model for us, thinking he would respect our property. WRONG !! He drug troves of people through our trailer, not what was agreed upon. He sold our park model to a friend, who was also a heavy drinker. He took the word of the other drunk that we had agreed upon a turn key purchase. It was not agreed upon the way it went down. While we were moving out he got angry with us, took his friends side, and told us " TO NEVER COME BACK". We NEVER gave him ANY issues, and always respected each park rule, and respected each camper. We were treated very unfairly. Will not ever recommend this campground to anyone, because a drunk is always right.

On a…read morebeautiful December day, we ventured to Marcellus (Cass County) to explore the diverse woodlands and wetlands of Spirit Springs Sanctuary, a 124-acre preserve owned by the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy (SWMLC). It was named Spirit Springs in part because of the surface stream and groundwater seeps on the site, but also because it is a place that lends itself well to peaceful reflection and the renewal of mind, body and spirit. Classic glacial topography of the preserve features rolling woodlands that surround a 7-acre pond and borders 65 acres of spring-fed wetlands. A small creek connects the pond and wetlands. The mixed trees and evergreen woods are punctuated by openings where prairie plants grow. The wetlands include a swamp. I need to return in the spring or summer to see the wide array of plant communities. A network of maintained trails provides access to the various areas of the preserve. Come prepared for walking woodland trails and perhaps some wet areas. The trails are well marked and are relatively easy to moderate. It was a great day to be outside to enjoy SW Michigan's nature.

Although the pool is top notch and the chalets are beautiful, this is a rustic style camp. If you are camping, bring a mat to wipe your feet. The camping area is a mix of dirt and sand. It can get dusty. It's located in the middle of woods. The members are the real reason Sunny Haven is a must. Community type feel. Very friendly and inviting. Always having fun. My wife and I have never felt unsafe. The vary rare instances where action was needed, it was taken care of immediately. The pool is AWESOME! Prices are very reasonable. Surprisingly cheap actually. A really fun place to visit.

Vicki from Rolling Acres Stable was able to save us a spot in advance. She was good in communicating, and our horse ended up boarding at her place for 6 months. Vicki has lots of experience with horses, and was very helpful in getting our horse settled. She typically keeps 2 horses together in a paddock, and tries to make it a good pairing. Our horse was challenging, but Vicki still did extra services for her (like giving wormer in the spring). I found Vicki to be kind and helpful, and a good source of information about our new state. The barn facilities were safe and in good repair. Highly recommended!
