We are YMCA members and have come to this camp for a few different events. The main one is summer…read morecamp for my daughter. She loves her summer camps here. The entire staff is so welcoming and friendly. They are very organized and very communicative front the time you sign up for camp, up until camp, and all the way to check out day. They have a wide variety of things for the kids to do while in camp, always keeping them busy and always making sure they have fun. They take pictures during camp and offer s website for parents to view them daily. They make sure your child is comfortable every year. They are very accommodating. The property is beautiful and well maintained. There aren't any huge potholes in the drive areas and the grass is always green and mowed. The buildings and cabins are also well maintained and clearly marked so you know where you're staying and going. The camp counselors are educated and know how to act appropriately and set an example for the kids. They have a couple years of training before they are actual counselors. I never felt insecure leaving my child for camp. I have taken retreats here and the instructors are on spot and on time. They know what they are teaching and very courteous. I love taking retreats here. I have also had the food here. It's high quality and no skimping. My child loves eating the "camp food". The retreat food is also very delicious. They have a cook and full kitchen staff to prepare the meals and they aren't just peanut butter and jelly sandwich meals. One time we had fried chicken and it was one of the best fried chickens I've eaten. I recommend coming here any time. It's a wonderful experience.

My husband and his family went to this camp for years when they were children. We recently found…read moreout about their family camp and were very excited about attending. While the weather was not especially co-operative, we felt this still could have been an excellent weekend were it not for the complete lack of direction from the staff. The posted schedule was often wrong, or staff simply decided not to do certain activities without giving any forewarning. At one point in time I was waiting quite a while to do one activity that only two people were working, and I ventured to check on my daughter who watching a movie and discovered that 4 of the counselors were "helping" a group of about 10 kids and parents watch a movie. I felt that three of those staff members could probably have been working on making sure the other people at camp weren't standing around for an hour waiting to do one activity. Also, it would have been immensely helpful if the staff had started the weekend with a tour of the grounds. I had never been to this camp, and it would have been nice to have known were to go so I didn't end up walking all over the camp only to find out when I got to the horse arena, that horseback riding had been canceled that morning and the next session was actually just going to be a "pony" ride in a coral. I did give it two stars, because I could see the potential of this being a really great experience. I also did get to climb a rock wall, do a high ropes activity and canoe a bit, also my children had a wonderful time just playing with all of the other kids there. So it was not a wasted weekend, although if the program director is still there next year, I won't be.

My Son and I came here over Memorial Day w.e with about six other families which equated to about…read more25 total in our group. This place is awesome and the *only* reason it's not getting a 5 spot is bc some of the Camp Leader "oversight" is a bit much but I guess better safe than sorry, etc. But every kid had at least one parent with them so things like the 2-hour long "swim test" could have been avoided by just having a parent sign a waiver...esp when they had at least 3 lifeguards watching a relatively small area of kids. Whatever, small detail but something to consider. The other reason is for the food which was essentially passable but you have to factor in the cost. Each family paid about $70 TOTAL for EVERYTHING for our two night three day stay! Food, lodging and all the included programs, i'm saying 3 days/2 nights stay all included for $70!! (i still can't get over that) Apart from those two minor critiques, the place is an absolute gem in a beautiful setting. Sat outside the town of Middleville (aka "Middle-of-Nowhere's-ville) that is situated in between Grand Rapids (to the North) and Kalamazoo (to the South). As alluded to this place is strictly business. But also FUN. And the counselors do make it fun. The kids were over the top excited and had almost no downtime (unless tey chose to). Highlights - per the 10 y.o when asked: 1. Nightly Camp Fire Stories 2. Horse trail ride (his first, barely did it but was so happy when task was accomplished 3. Zip Line 4. Kayaking 5. Swimming (just add water and there's a 0% chance you're child won't be content 6. Tie Dye 7. Daily Meal Time 8. Archery 9 Indoor Climbing Wall 10. Outside Climbing Wall For me, it was all around fantastic and I got the chance to ride some single track at nearby Yankee Springs which is an awesome Mountain Bike trail about ten minutes South. [X] Without a doubt we'll be back

We've had our kids go to camp Manitou-lin for the last three years. The first year was just day…read morecamp and then the over-night camp the last two years. The kids really enjoy it and we feel comfortable that our children are having a safe and fun experience. The camp is well organized with a myriad of fun activities planned. Both of my kids really love the food, although it sounds pretty standard by their description. The kayaking/canoeing, archery and outdoor skills activities are things they particularly liked. The staff are very friendly and competent and keep the kids entertained and engaged while instilling good values. If I had any complaint, it would be the staff-to-child ratio and apparent lack of a reasonable bedtime for the kids under 10 years old. There are 10-12 kids in each cabin and both my kids complained that they never got to sleep before 11:00 or 11:30 pm. If this is a concern, then a day camp might be a better choice. Despite this, both our kids have asked to go to camp for a second week each summer.
