The area is quiet and bathroom is clean even though it's under renovation. It's very close to grocery stores as well. They have a booklet in the cabin talking about the history about this place which is a great touch. My family enjoy the booklet very much! In the tent and RV camping area, I see lots of trees that provides great shades. The price is reasonable but you need to bring your own blanket and pillows. Would definitely recommend.

The campsites were huge with a fire ring, picnic table, and even faucet and an outlet to charge some things. Bathrooms were kept very clean. I loved the proximity to the beach and grocery store. There is a historic site right next to the tent camping area, $3 per person to ride a train and then you get to explore the area. My young kids loved it.

This place is also great to go on a nice little walk too and there's plenty of people walking their dogs as well. This is a little gem of a campground that's pleasantly filled with comforts and modern amenities. The campground itself is very small, but it's quiet, & has a steady body of water. I will be staying here again. I spent the weekend sitting in my hammock and enjoying hearing the water. 5/6 of the cabins face the water just as an fyi, so it's like a private paradise. The town of SoHa is really fun too and a great place to wine, dine, & explore. The cabins are basic and rustic with one plug in to charge your electronics. There is one light in there but it does get dark at night. Bring a nightlight. The queen bunk beds are great and comfortable. I would say more like 2-3 people could comfortably sleep in a cabin due to space and the cabins get hot at night! There's showers, there's toilets, there's cabins- oh my! The showers run on a unique token system. 1 token=$1=3 minutes of hot, private, shower. Tokens are purchased on site. the showers are game changers because they're open 24 hours with cameras outside so the owners monitor who goes in/out and your safety. As a queer person, I felt comfortable & safe at this campground.

I loved this campground. It's quite large with lots of lakes and bodies of water. I didn't get to hike a ton but the one trail I did hike was great and very peaceful. I reserved campsite 159. I will say that the campsite next to it was basically right on top of mine so it would be great for a group site! It was also located right by the bike/hike trail, so that was good for me but could see how it wasn't as private as other sites. Loved the check in process and great location related to Kalamazoo.

My kids had to wear sweatpants and sweatshirts in 75/80 degree weather. We couldn't go anywhere without there being poison ivy within 5 ft of us. Our group (especially my children) were all covered in mosquito bites (we are talking 10+ on each of their faces - even with using bug spray, and multiple other methods of deterring mosquitos!) The staff were rude and unprofessional. The DNR officers were belittling and grumpy toward a large family group (adults with small children). This was our first time camping at this state park... and likely the last time camping at a Michigan state park. I am so disappointed in how Michigan is using their resources to create a "family friendly" campground when the way people are treated are not reflective of that. The campsites are not safe for children. Do better for someone else's sake, Fort Custer.

I watched two dogs jump out of their little fence and try to attack a woman and her dog, these dogs had been aggressive for days and the dog's owner only got a warning. If a young man hadn't have jumped to the rescue, they could have seriously harmed this poor lady and her dog. These same campers also had their older children on their site fist fighting and cussing each other out, still nothing was done. There were no trashcans to throw away trash or doggie bags. It was the absolute most stressful campground I've ever been to. Will never go back!!!
