Sun River Gardens is beautifully organized, thoughtfully displayed, and stocked with a selection that puts most nurseries in the area to shame. Walking through it feels less like a garden center errand and more like an experience worth making time for. The indoor plant section is well curated and extensive. The outdoor area covers annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs. The pottery selection, both indoor and outdoor, is lovely and priced accordingly. The pre-potted arrangements are hard to walk past. And then there is the home decor section, which is genuinely my favorite part of the visit. Exclusive, elegant, and full of pieces you simply will not find anywhere else, from beautiful accents and furniture to the most charming toys you can imagine. None of it is cheap, but none of it looks like anything else either. Now for the part I have been trying to figure out for years. I have a green thumb. I have a home full of healthy thriving plants. But something consistently happens with the plants I bring home from Sun River Gardens. Within a week or two, despite careful attention and following care instructions, they decline and die. This has happened enough times to be a pattern rather than a coincidence. Interestingly I have noticed the same thing with plants from other high end nurseries, while plants from Harmons or even Walmart almost always thrive. My best guess is that greenhouse grown plants raised in highly controlled environments struggle more with the transition to home conditions, but I genuinely do not know. What I do know is that it keeps happening. And yet I keep coming back, because the selection and the experience are that good. Four stars for the atmosphere, the inventory, and that home decor section. Just go in with realistic expectations if you are buying plants to keep alive.

The meticulous attention to detail by Roberto and John in removing the old tree and planting the new should be the standard for all nurseries, but it isn't. You can tell they care about every customers because even if they are selling plants they make sure to let u know when it's a good time to plant or not plant certain plants. They have signs that help customers know when to plant. They have employees everywhere maintaining plants and helping customers. I easily spent a hour and a half of just looking at all the different plants. The prices for the plants are very realistic and the plants are always healthy. I've never had anything I've bought from them die. They have the most beautiful hanging baskets I've ever seen it's become a tradition every year for Mother's Day to get my mother two massive hanging baskets which last all the way to November. When the neighbors see them they ask where we got them so they can pick themselves up one as well. I love cooks so much that I bring people there all the time to get the cooks experience!

I went to Olsen's Garden Shoppe in Payson, Utah to get a schedule of their up coming classes they teach to refer my class members to. When Chris Olsen (One of the owners) found out why I had come in, not only did she get me the upcoming class flyers, she went beyond being helpful giving me ideas for teaching. I was astounded at her kindness & generous support of our community. I've frequented their Nursery / Garden Center for my own yard as well as friends & neighbors, but was shocked at her support. If you need something I'm sure they will have it here. Plants, seeds, fertilizers, soil and little things like pots are available year round. The west side of the building is pretty much dedicated to house plants. Small to large, there is almost always a plant that you are looking for available. I've even bought plants in the middle of winter! During the spring you can grab almost any plant for your garden. They have so many varieties of tomatoes and peppers in multi packs you could buy your garden on one trip. You can buy bare roots for planting as well as seeds if you want to start from ground zero (pun intended.) Check their website to see what the monthly specials are. You can get great discounts at the end of the season on plants as well. Parking is abundant and this place covers a large area. Bigger items like trees and shrubs are outside the actual greenhouse so if you are going to buy items that are larger, you should park around the side by the east gate. It's separated by plant type outside so you can easily navigate to find what you need. Even if you aren't looking to buy something quite yet, just take a walk around the place and see what they have to offer. The staff is so nice and if you have a question (no matter how difficult) there is someone there to help you out. Brad is the man when it comes to plants. He knows the little tricks and tips to growing what you need. They also feature classes to help you become a better gardener and plant person! Bottom line is, come here! It's very likely they will have anything you need related to your plant needs.

I think it's probably becoming more known for the wedding/event venue portion, as we rolled up to…read moreshop the nursery and the doors weren't open and they tried to direct us to a party. But maybe that's just because I visited in the early winter and who shops a nursery then? In any case, once we made our way inside, it became clear they're making moves to up the adorbs factor and move to be way more than just a pot-em-up nursery. The main retail area here is lovely, with gifts, books, and loads of home decor. They've put some money into this, and while it still needs to be filled out a bit more, you can spend some time cruising here and be happy. From the main area, we made our way to the houseplant section. While there are a lot of expecteds there, I was surprised to see so many of them. We only found a few harder-to-find ferns (something way down the line in the birds nest family) but plenty of those old school ficus. I suppose the ficus sell, but with so many hot new ficus right now, I just was surprised at the quantity of the old schoolers. There are succulents as well, though thankfully not a bajillion. I liked many of the containers, especially the wee ones, and prices there were reasonable. We ended up with three ferns, one of which is now struggling due to a long vacation and a lack of water (my bad) but many of the plants there in the greenhouse needed a good amount of deadheading and some of the poor monstera were flagging, and generally it seems they probably need someone dedicated and diligent in the watering and upkeep. It could stand a little freshening up. I'd like to come back in the warm months to see what kind of trouble I could get into, but I still had a nice time and the other two ferns are going strong; the third has my full faith it will bounce back.

They look like they are enjoying their job which is always nice to see. The unfortunate part of my visit is a lot of their plants did not look healthy. You can tell they are watering on top of the plant instead of at the roots. You can see a lot of scorch marks on the flowers and the leaves. On the bright side the trees looked very healthy. They also had the beautiful hydrangeas lime light trees/shrub that looked beyond healthy which is rare to see at a nursery. But above all I might stop by once in awhile but I probably won't buy especially because the prices of the plants are so pricey.

Some plants did and a lot did not. There were no workers to be found. It was like a ghost town. when I did find the price of the plants they over charged. I go to plant nurseries all over Utah and can find the same plants for half the cost and way more healthy. Shades used to be way better maintained but every time I've stopped by it seems like are becoming less and less maintained. I use to brag about this place but after today I just won't be back until they start to be organized, maintain their plants and have more affordable pricing. They are pricing out their customers.
