    Pink Bleeding heart

Went back again and this time I was in search of plants for the yard specifically Bleeding heart bushes. Lo and behold they had them, not bare roots for planting or tiny weak looking plants. These guys were at least 8 in tall. I also found a good variety of herbs and salad greens. Again the place was extremely busy in my opinion but the employees insist it was a slow day. (THURSDAY) I Dont want to know what a weekend is like, I'd stay away.

Two stars for their indoor plants selection. Although this place is always crowded with people, I did not see why Cook's was so popular other than being a very big nursery with a large variety of plants. As I came for indoor plants, I was very disappointed to see how all of the calatheas were dead. In addition, I only found 2-3 snake plants, and did not find the indoor plant I was looking for. I definitely expected more from Cook's! For the indoor section of Cook's, it was quite stuffy and seemed a little shady. Compared to other local nurseries, this was definitely not decorated as nicely and did not have any modern or aesthetically pleasing pot decorations.

This place should change their name to "crooks" as that would be more accurate. We bought 5 trees from them at nearly $200 each. They were planted by a certified arborist. We hand watered them as specified and 4 of the 5 died. Crooks won't honor even their terrible 50% credit refund policy much less actually make it right. The manager didn't even talk with us, just sent the flunky desk help to tell us no. I will never buy anything from them again. Save your money & go to a real nursery, not these "crooks".

I had previously called and asked which plants would be the most suitable for beginners. (They are very responsive on the phone, which is great!) They told me that there will be people who could help me out at the store. Yet, when I arrived nobody greeted or helped out. When I asked for tips from two workers, they said they were not sure. So, I had to walk around to ask different workers. I was quite disappointed with the help and knowledge of the workers. As I was mainly looking at house plants, I must say that I was quite disappointed with some of the plants that I was previously eyeing. There were leaves that were broken off and wilting. Yet, I also managed to find other plants that looked so pretty! I love the selection of the pots and think that they are a good price in comparison to other online stores. I loved how they also helped me repot my plants for free as I purchased the pot AND the plant from the store (their requirement for free potting).

Some plants did and a lot did not. There were no workers to be found. It was like a ghost town. when I did find the price of the plants they over charged. I go to plant nurseries all over Utah and can find the same plants for half the cost and way more healthy. Shades used to be way better maintained but every time I've stopped by it seems like are becoming less and less maintained. I use to brag about this place but after today I just won't be back until they start to be organized, maintain their plants and have more affordable pricing. They are pricing out their customers.

Today we will finalize some of our selections and ask for recommendations for landscapers. We already have a pleasing professional architectural plan, and now we are anxious to implement it right away with the healthy looking plants we found here. The staff was extremely helpful and patient. The facility is well organized. Hopefully we are not too late in the planting season for inventory selection. They were busy the day we were there, and we noticed a lot of contractors selecting stock. I can't believe there aren't more reviews posted here. We live in Orem and learned about Thrive from some neighbors who used them. We visited another large nursery in Orem, and they were very helpful, but we connected with Thrive's organization, selection and plant health.

Nobody helped. Still, next day went there again planning to buy several trees/shrubs for new backyard project. Even rented truck for hauling. Nobody volunteered help, but I finally went and asked for help. Older salesman reluctantly helped me identify unmarked shrub. Kept telling me nothing would grow in Utah, but basically boxwood, boxwood, boxwood! I told him what trees I wanted and asked where they were. He pointed to at least a 1/2-acre lot full of trees and said over there. I asked him if he could take me there and show me. His response - I can't because there are not too many of us to cover the front. There were AT LEAST six other workers standing around the front counter. What a lazy man!!! What horrible customer service I!! If he couldn't do it, he should have asked one of the others "standing around" to help. I told my daughter to drive the truck to HD and spent my $1000.00 there. As I backed out, I watched this old man and a younger man just STAND there talking to each other; obviously snickering about me going to HD. Thrive owners/management you should fire the old man - his lousy customer service is actually stealing from you! A multi- BILLION dollar company didn't snicker at my $1,000 so why should your workers. And paying him wages on top of that loss. Bad business! People don't go here it is a waste of your time! Support your local HD where the workers are paid for good customer service/

But if my visit is any indication at all, this is probably a family-run spot with nice folks doing their best to bring you good flowers. The world of plant stores/nurseries has taken a turn for the charming lately, with some even doubling as wedding and reception centers. Interiors are being redone with very Instaworthy layouts and all the modern trends. That's not the case here. This is where you go for your bedding plants. This is where you go for a nice tree. This is where you go to peruse the perennials to just cruise and find something you like. I'm told that earlier in the season they have a nice selection of veggies so that would for sure be worth checking out. I'm not sure if the wintertime brings more houseplants, succulents, cacti, or other on-trend plants, but for now that selection was pretty limited. It's not their specialty, and that's A-OK as long as you know. I found the help to be very friendly, and they seemed to focus a lot on making the plants as affordable as possible, which is always appreciated. They were kind enough to remark on all the recent markdowns and take the time to show a few favorites. All in all, it's a pretty straightforward spot with a lot of the likely suspects, and if you cruise around town looking at nurseries as I do, you'll probably find something interesting here, too.

But maybe that's just because I visited in the early winter and who shops a nursery then? In any case, once we made our way inside, it became clear they're making moves to up the adorbs factor and move to be way more than just a pot-em-up nursery. The main retail area here is lovely, with gifts, books, and loads of home decor. They've put some money into this, and while it still needs to be filled out a bit more, you can spend some time cruising here and be happy. From the main area, we made our way to the houseplant section. While there are a lot of expecteds there, I was surprised to see so many of them. We only found a few harder-to-find ferns (something way down the line in the birds nest family) but plenty of those old school ficus. I suppose the ficus sell, but with so many hot new ficus right now, I just was surprised at the quantity of the old schoolers. There are succulents as well, though thankfully not a bajillion. I liked many of the containers, especially the wee ones, and prices there were reasonable. We ended up with three ferns, one of which is now struggling due to a long vacation and a lack of water (my bad) but many of the plants there in the greenhouse needed a good amount of deadheading and some of the poor monstera were flagging, and generally it seems they probably need someone dedicated and diligent in the watering and upkeep. It could stand a little freshening up. I'd like to come back in the warm months to see what kind of trouble I could get into, but I still had a nice time and the other two ferns are going strong; the third has my full faith it will bounce back.
