Stopped in Bismarck on a road trip west and found this awesome spot. Great beer, bbq, live music and axe throwing!

I went to Laughing Sun for the first time with my wife on March 30th while we were in town for the Breaking Benjamin show, early in the evening, and placed an order. The total was about 7 or 8 bucks. I handed the bartender a 20. He handed me back some bills and put the coins on top, then quickly turned around and walked away. I dumped the coins in my pocket and realized instead of giving me back a 10-dollar bill and a couple of ones, he substituted a 5-dollar bill (on the bottom of the pile, of course) and pocketed the rest. He did it so smoothly, I'm pretty sure he does it all the time... place the change in customer's hand, quickly turn around and walk away. By the time I realized what he had done, he was nowhere to be found. Won't be patronizing Laughing Sun in the future. The beer wasn't very good either. read more

Good beer, food, and atmosphere! Another review said something about the wait time and I agree. We waited 45 minutes for our food and they ran out of some things so gave us something else. Not that big of a deal, however when you wait that long and want another beer, you have to go stand in a long line to get one. Spent half our time waiting! read more

The chopped brisket sandwich was amazing. The cheese and pickled veggies, combined with the decent brisket, made for a rich and complex sandwich. I got the mac and cheese on the side, which was pretty good but not remarkable. My partner got the German potato salad, and THAT was to die for. Overall, great food for a brewery! read more

Cool little brewery in downtown Bismark, ND. Nice location but tough parking. Inside is small and narrow and rather gloomy. Good beer selection. Some interesting variants. Great beer (and non alcoholic options for those of us that can't partake) although no gluten-free beer. The atmosphere is different depending on the night and the entertainment. They get some really great bands to play! It can be very loud and overly crowded at times since such a small place but well worth visiting. read more

Totally amazing place. Dogs not only welcome but encouraged. They have large bowls of water so no matter the size your pup will be happy. they also have complementary treats! They have a cute patio full of picnic tables and ceiling fans. There is no table service you walk up to get your food or your beer.The beer was unique ( i mean that in a good way! ) I am not huge beer fan but there's were really nice. No hard liquor and only one or two wines so don't go if you're set on those. The cheese / meat tray was great ! The smoked wings fell off the bone . I ordered buffalo because they were the most popular and they were good but if i go back i will for sure order the Korean. The turkey sliders were for real amazing. Bring your pup , your kids and your friends! The service was very nice as well! read more

Love this place. Have to stop by for at least one beverage while in Bismarck. The employees and beer gurus are very knowledgable and friendly to boot! Bismarck finally has a brewpub! I stopped in with a few friends and we sampled everything they had on tap. Everyone of them was good but my favorite was by far the Feast Like a Sultan IPA. They will have 5 different beers in there regular lineup and maybe some seasonals later on. They also have catering from Lucky Ducks Deli and plan to have catering from Fireflour Pizza when it opens. read more

This is my first review on Yelp. Of the probably hundreds of places I've been to Laughing Sun is the spot that motivated me to post this. This place is the real deal. I was here last night and bought the 5 Beer Flight. Every beer was unique and delicious. About half way through the sampler the owner came over with some pre-beer beer for me to sample from the brewery. It was definitely a unique flavor. Warm, sweet and delicious. It will turn into some probably incredible maple stout that they're experimenting with in the tanks about 9 feet from where I'm sitting now. Today I'm enjoying the Whippin Post Pale Ale and it seriously might be one of my favorite beers I've had in a long, long time. Unfortunately I'm only in town for a couple days and probably won't be back for a long time either. Hopefully next time I'm back in town these guys become something and I'll be buying six packs back home in California. Roadtripper passing through Bismarck and I'm sure happy I stopped here. Beer is amazing, Sultan's Revenge is a top notch IPA. One of my favorites. Bartenders were incredibly nice and even gave us a free sample. Not sure what his name is, but the bald bartender with a beard was one of the nicest people I've met. Chill place...awkward music on this night. Good service. Limited beer selection. If you're from a big city, you're not going to like lack of options, but you may find a beer you can appreciate. Outdoor area if weather is nice too. Jessica was cool and brought samples. This place reminds me of downtown Portland...interesting characters and a place where everyone knows everyone. Solid brewery with some pretty awesome smoked BBQ. The Feast like a Sultan IPA was solid and an enjoyable IPA. Wished I could have found a NE hazy, but no luck tonight. Back to the meat. Ordered the brisket plate and it was incredible. Everything you think a smoked meat should be good in today's expectations. Flavorful, Smokey, moist but with a crust. Fatty but with definition so that be can trim it and have moist meat without the fat. A fantastic portion. Larger than I would have expected. A solid IPA and solid meal. I would suggest anyone reading this to give it a shot. read more

Was happy to see a brew pub in a town that I was traveling to work in. Even more happy to see the words "porter" and "stout" on their beer list. I went and it was crowded, with about 25-30 seats only. I decided to get a growler of each their Stout and Porter, and then get my commemorative pint glass for a new brew pub. When the total came to $55, I was appalled. A growler (glass and beer included) costs $12-14 anywhere in Montana... The stout was pretty good, but not worth $24-26. I don't know what taxes and laws surround breweries in ND, but I'll still with my higher quality, lower-priced, Montana-made, Idaho-made, Oregon-made, Washington-made beer. Thanks! (Taste and atmosphere was a 4 or 5 star, and live music was a plus as well. Price was a 1 star. I guess I was expecting relatively normal prices.) read more
