This little Mom and Pop cafe and coffee shop is a hub within the beautiful town of Mahone Bay. Not much to dislike in this place; Eli and Trixie will treat you like an old friend who has popped in unannounced, but very much welcome. Mark and I headed down here last Sunday with our tummy's rumbling in hopes of the feast we had here last July. He was just as impressed with the cheese and ham omelette as he had been with a similar variant almost a year ago. I decided to try something brand new even though I LOVE the waffles at Eli's (and Trixie's). The Panini with cucumber, cheese, tomato and their own sauce left a little to be desired although Mark gobbled down my leftovers with relish (enjoyment, he didn't add relish) so i'm likely just a picky brunch goer. A very quaint little stop off all in all! Icecream flavours are advertised on a hand made sign as: 1 scoop: $1, 2 scoop: $1.75, 3 scoop: $2.50 and 4 scoop: $3.25. Is it just me or is 4 scoops a tad excessive?? Needless to say, you can get your fix at Eli's. ps: This cafe is (Dame) Judy Dench approved. for real.

    Comfy and cozy coffee shop.

I love Mahone Bay, it has been a stopping point for me on my South Shore adventures since I was a kid. In recent years a number of new places to eat have popped up - most appear to be of pretty high quality and were quite busy the day we were in town. I should mention that we had planned on eating at the Kedy's Inlet Cafe while in Mahone Bay, but sadly they went out of business (too bad, I really liked their seafood chowder). My parents had been to Eli's before, however, this was my first time. I liked the vibe of the place - dark wood, modern furniture and big, bright paintings. The drink selection was pretty standard for a cafe, however, the sandwich menu was very interesting. I was intrigued by the Croque Monsieur w/pineapple and my wife was all about the Reuben. I have had a few Croque Monsieur in my day, some very good and some not so good. The sandwich I had at Eli's was not a Croque Monsieur, but rather a ham sandwich with pineapple. It was tasty for what it was, piled high with lean ham, swiss cheese and juicy pineapple. The whole wheat bread was hearty and thick. My wife's Reuben was also good, piled high with smoked meat (Eli's touts rather loudly that the smoked meat is from legendary Montreal restaurant Schwartz's, but I couldn't really tell the difference from any other quality smoked meat). It had a decent amount of sauerkraut, hopefully from Tancook Island down the road, and was relatively light overall. Both sandwiches were served with fruit, which was nice. I had a mocha from the drink menu and it was quite acceptable - smooth, yet not to sweet chocolate with steamed milk and espresso. My only real knock against Eli's that kept my review to 3 stars is their prices - drinks were priced about the same as Starbucks ($5 on average for a medium sized drink) and the sandwiches were in the $13 - $15 range. Lunch for the four of us was $80, really steep for a cafe on the South Shore of Nova Scotia.

We had the savoury crepes...eggs, ham, cheese and onion. The crepes were very tasty but expensive ($19 each). Coffee was excellent.

I had the banana nut muffin and is was truly the best banana nut muffin I've ever had! It had a mix of nuts, seeds, a smattering of mini chocolate chips and a drizzle of icing. Add a light shake of sea salt, and you have found my ideal breakfast treat. My husband had the apple cinnamon crumble muffin. We made an audible "mmmm" on his first bite. Our Americano and latte were exactly as we hoped. If you have time to linger, go upstairs and sit on one large leather couches. We met some native Nova Scotians and never felt rushed. I came here with my Mother, daughter (a minor) and my cousin today. I have to say they literally…read moreruined my vacation. Went enter and My mother and cousin order followed by my daughter and I placing our order together. I order the roasted chicken with no onion as I am allergic. My daughter get the spicy chicken burger with just lettuce. My mom and cousin get theirs and it looked amazing, we were starving. I notice the young lady at the counter leaves looks like she had to do a delivery. It's been a while but we are enjoying the ac. A little annoyed the food is not out yet, its been 20 mins since my mom took her last bite and the older lady comes from out back and says the other girl was suppose to tell it was going to be a wait. Ok, while not happy I assume it will be soon. Another 25mins go by and the young lady returns, cool, I go up to see how long the young lady was nice she said was almost up. The older lady snapped I said it would be a wait. Ok cool I go sit down and moment's later the young drops the food at rhe table in to go boxes. I think it's weird cuz the other food came in cute baskets. I don't really care I just want to eat. I open the box and there is red onion all through it( Again I am allergic and I know I told them because I also made a comment of how I get embarrassed making a special order if I could pick it off I would) The young lady was very nice she went back spoke with the older lady ( I assumed told her of the allergy but not sure) My daughters order was wrong too it was covered in mayo and cheese. Anyhow I brought the box up told them I wanted a refund as it has onion I am allergic, the bread was toasted but was cold and very hard. My mother and cousin bread was not like that and was warm, I watched them eat. The young girl processes the refund while the older lady is yelling at me from the kitchen essentially trying to make herself sound good because now there is a crowd. I sit for a second while we figure out what to do and the older lady comes out and rage screams in my face because the young girl is crying and that I don't get to talk to her that way( mind you she is screaming at me in front of my Mother, daughter and cousin, telling me about not talking to someone in a certain way) I am sorry that the young girl got upset, truly I am but it was the older lady that was being aggressive and I was responding to her. A simple sorry and refund and we all could have gone on with our days. What I really don't understand is why my food could not have come out while the young girl was on delivery. It was already ordered, and the cook was there. Why did I have to wait for the young girl to return. It literally ruined my day 100% Ask the men working at the Mahone Bay Trading Co. I sat in their red chair crying for 15 mins as he supplied me with tissue. I didn't even buy anything from them and he was so nice. I went to one other store then drove home an hour away. This was suppose to be a fun day, one I was looking forward to. To clarify it wasn't the wait that ruined my day it was the older lady rage screaming at me over the fact she made me a sandwich I am allergic to, then finding she posted about me on Facebook name calling with no context to what actually happened and made light of her mistake of serving me my allergy in a box as a tiny mistake. In the food industry that is a huge mistake one that could have been a lot worse if I didn't see it before taking a bite. The owner did send me a response to my compliant however there no actual apology it was more of a feel bad for my staff, we are understaffed and hot. 1. Why aren't the owners there helping? It is literally their business and job. 2. That is never an excuse to rage scream in a customers face!

Restaurant seems disorganized and poorly managed since new owners arrived. Use to be my favourite…read moreplace to go!
