Laura Jean's For many years, I've been fortunate to shop at Laura Jean's. It's my go to place to find unusual women's clothing and accessories. Their selection is eclectic and is always in mint condition. The beauty of shopping there comes from the items that our many tourists leave behind, often from their hometowns, as well as our folks that relocate here. The designer racks are perfect for special occasions at affordable prices. The staff's so friendly and will make sure you find what you need. Don't let the size of the shop fool you, it's loaded with goodies, some new and many slightly used. And, don't miss their Girls Night Out, I've heard they are a blast. Prices are really high for items but when you consign with them the payout is basically nothing. I'd call and they would keep asking to hold my stuff longer to try and sell it which didn't happen. Took them a $600 ball gown that they didn't sell and after picking it back up there were multiple tears in the tulle that weren't there when they accepted it. Another expensive dress was returned to me with a run down the front that wasn't there before. For a place so picky and meticulous about what they accept to consign they do not take care of your items and didn't even mention to me they were being returned to me flawed. Would not recommend unless you don't care and were just planning to donate the items anyway read more

I don't understand the number one rating of this store. My sister has consigned with this place and is always sorry - they are understandably careful when taking in items but the way they reject your pieces is inconsistent. They have told my sister that certain items are not fashionable or are something they don't take and then we find similar if not the same things on their racks! One of her consigned items was never sold and they told her they had returned it to her. They had not. Makes you wonder if you are getting the correct amount for your sold items. Also, the prices on some of the designer handbags and shoes seemed high - who is making the decision whether the designer piece is authentic? Some designer bags with very high prices seemed questionable. Especially when we noticed all of the obvious knock-off designer pieces for sale. All in all, I'd give this place a miss. read more

I've been on a "consignment kick" lately--and I've made it a mission to check out several consignment stores in the Tampa Bay and Sarasota area. No doubt, Laura Jean's stands out from the rest. Located in a strip mall on S Tuttle Ave, LJ's has been a Sarasota favorite for many years. High quality clothing, reasonable prices, great sales, and a friendly staff, all contribute to the pleasant environment. I've both consigned with, and shopped at, Laura Jean's. Although they can sometimes be picky about the clothing they're willing to take (brands, condition, etc.)--it's for good reason. And as a shopper, I certainly appreciate the high standard that's upheld throughout the store's inventory. Even so, I've received a decent amount of money from my sold clothes--and I've often recycled it right back into a purchase (oops!). Laura Jean's feels much more like a boutique than it does a thrift store. Between the shop's helpful and friendly staff, the cleanliness, and the thoughtfully planned layout--I simply enjoy stepping foot into the store. And the finds. I took my mom here a few months ago, and she scored a GORGEOUS, light blue, leather Prada jacket for less than $250! Personally, I've scored a Theory blazer for $20, BCBG lace pants/leggings, a Sachin + Babi top, and a few more items--all for a fraction of their MSRP. This is the nicest consignment shop I've seen in awhile. I stopped in on a whim because they had these gorgeous rose gold and pearl hoop earrings in the window that I just HAD to have. They had a fantastic selection of bags and clothing! The sales girl right at the front was super helpful and immediately informed me of the sale they were having. One of the owners rang me up and informed me they have been in business for 30 years. I will be going out of my way, but still cannot wait to go back when I have time to actually shop. read more

Laura Jean's made my day and then some. They carry a lot of high-end fashion including accessories such as unique purses, shoes and jewelry. I've had my sites on buying a Louis Vuitton bag for some time now and this was my lucky day. It's my understanding that they cycle through a lot of designer hand bags, so I guess this would be a good place to not only consider buying a lux bag, but also consigning one. Lindsey took a lot of time to go over the detail of the bag I had my eye on as well as educate me on my potential investment. She really knew her bags and I felt very comfortable working with her. This store has been around for a long time and is established. The next time I'm in the area, I will absolutely stopping at Laura Jean's. Nice Consignment shop Management needs some attitude adjustment. Not friendly. This is not Saks or Bloomingdales. It is a USED clothing store. I brought things in to consign and it was ok that they turned them down, but they could have done that in a much nicer way. They act as if they are on Fifth Avenue. Hello! It is in a not very upscale strip mall. Don't even care if my things that they DID accept sold. Don't like the whole atmosphere. Ok, I'm guessing a tiny store such as yours doesn't have permission from Tiffany nor Michael K. or any of the other brands I saw there being sold for under $20 or $30? They sure weren't there on consignment!! Unless your dealing with a distributor of fake items. Maybe that's the case? Either way just in case you weren't aware even if you mark the merchandise as fake, it's still very ILLEGAL FOR YOU TO SELL!! I don't know how you could even try to defend what your doing. I hope your making a big commissions from your fake merchandise sales!! Now that leads me to believe that everything in your store could be a knock-off. Who's to know the difference? I'm talking about the clothing now. I'm sure anyone could tell the jewelry & glasses u sale are fakes, I'd hope? Because you sure don't have anything marked saying they're fake & I've been there several times, just to double check for myself. I can't believe your still in business. Maybe u have a great idea? I brought in clothes to be consigned, two bags to be exact, of designer clothing. They could not have been more snobby about taking my clothes and what to do with them when I did want to consign them and bring them in. One of the girls wouldn't even look at me or give me the time a day and the other one was put out by the fact that she had to explain to me about their consignment policy. I used to frequent their shop when it was owned by somebody else. Now I will never go back there again as long as they are snobby, unpleasant and more interested in talking about what they're going to wear on the beach that night than their customers and customer service. A friend, who moved back North, left a lot of quality, designer clothes with me, which I'd offered to take to a consignment store on her behalf. Laura Jean's wasn't my first choice - Susan's was, but sadly they closed. However, I knew Laura Jean's generally had good brands, and also some unique vintage pieces, so I believed that they would welcome the little black Calvin Klein dress, unworn still with the tag on, along with a number of other new items; including Talbot and Michael Kors. There were 3 adorable clutch purses too. Unable to go to the store myself, my aide took the clothing in today, but was told by the young clerk, who obviously wouldn't know quality clothing if it got up and hit her, refused every single item. She complained they were "wrinkled" (they had been in a bag, but we put them on hangars, and a day of being on a rack would have taken care of that). She also said they were too "old-fashioned" Clearly, she is clueless about the timelessness of good quality clothing. When I'm able to get out and about again, I will make sure to never shop at Laura Jean's again, and they certainly don't deserve my friend's business either. read more

Laura Jean's USED to be a gem, although the one on 17th Street has mostly junky clothes. Tried the one on Bee Ridge and I am sorry. Extremely unpleasant experience and owner. I had read online that many people wasted their time by taking clothes to this store to sell on consignment. So I called and asked them what they accepted before trekking over. The woman on the phone told me "mall clothes" such as Banana Republic, NY&Co., etc. She also told me that everything had to be laundered and ironed on a hanger. So, I spent an ENTIRE day ironing and hanging 40 pieces to take to the store that was 1/2 hour away. When I got there they showed me where to hang them and I proceeded to make 4 trips to my car with heavy clothes. When I brought the final ten, the lady, who was rather rude, turned to me and said--we cannot use any of these. She didn't even look at them all--maybe one or two! Some were brand new from Saks and Bloomingdale's. When I told her that, she grilled me (yes GRILLED me--saying did you buy it in the last two years? Some were, but she insisted they were not! Said they only wanted the latest styles. Now this is truly funny, because as I looked around the store, there was a lot of very "tired" looking clothes. I saw old faded "mom" jeans on a rack of denim. These are the newest styles? I saw lots of clothes and jewelry that frankly looked like junk. They should have said on the phone--we only take clothes bought in the last two years, but the THEY DID NOT. And looking around the store, there is no way those clothes were only bought in the last two years. The jewelry is like Kmart or Target jewelry. This place is running on fumes from when it was a good store. A TOTAL waste of time an energy. read more

I have been to all the consignment stores in town and just had not been all that impressed - then I went here and was greeted warmly, an associate took my clothes to the fitting room for me, and the woman who rang up my purchase was so helpful and cheerful.
