If you were of a mind to open a popcorn shop, where would you want to sell popcorn from? You'd be kinda crazy not to want to sell popcorn from a shiny red wagon with yellow wheels, I think. When I was many years younger, the only popcorn store I was familiar with was Karmelkorn, and their caramel popcorn had a medium brown glaze. I could pass it up any day, but if the people I was with insisted on stopping in, I would get some cheesy popcorn instead. Now, the closest popcorn store to home is Laura's Gourmet Popcorn. The caramel popcorn from Laura's red wagon in the Shops of Grand Avenue was first offered to me by my husband, who I blame for making me aware that this treat exists. The thick coating is a light brown color and to me it's almost a toffee-like flavor. In any case, it's delicious, and pretty hard for me to say no to. Sometimes Laura's will also sell popcorn at the Westown Farmers' Market. read more

I'm not about to try that one. There is basically something for everyone. I do want to go to their bigger store. They also sell online.

Cheese curds were outstanding, which was the side to my also outstanding Muenster grilled cheese sandwich on buttery toasted sourdough. Of the 3 cheese curds I had in Milwaukee, all 3 of which were excellent, West Allis was the very best of 3 excellent choices. Cheese curds in Maryland (where I live) don't compare; see my 4-star review of Brew Belly in Olney, MD visited 2.5 months after Milwaukee trip written on 10/6/25; other aspects of that place were stronger, cheese curds were more of a 3-star (I was spoiled in Milwaukee), but still even those cheese curds were far superior to the worst date of 2021 at Brew Belly. The line at West Allis was long at lunchtime on that Saturday of Labor Day weekend, but the staff was efficient & cordial getting people through the line in reasonable time as well as getting the food quickly. I think I ate in an upstairs area of the market where there was some seating. If I was ever in Milwaukee again, I'd come back here, Brewers game if it timed well: Go Brew Crew!

Topped with cheese whips (the best bloody mary topper IMO). Their frozen drinks are great on a hot summer day. I like to stop here when kayaking on the river and cooling up with a frozen drink. I love the frozen old fashioned, but new this year was the frozen dirty shirley. Great food as well - the breakfast poutine can cure a hangover and the Cheesy Joe remains one of my favorite sandwiches in MKE!

Like Sahara Desert dry. Maybe this was an anomaly and their other baked goods are better, but I'd be hesitant to try them based on this coffee cake. Even though the website says the side is potato pancakes with applesauce, my fish fry came with fries. They ended up being the best part of the meal, which I certainly wasn't expecting. Still, I was disappointed cause I prefer potato pancakes and was given their inclusion as an expectation. The wheat bread itself was ok, but the butter was oddly unsalted. The fish, of which there was three pieces, was battered with a hint of beer, but like the butter for the bread there was no salt to speak of in the batter. As much as I didn't enjoy the unsalted butter for the bread, not having salt in the batter for the fish managed to be more unpleasant. Maybe Blue's Egg should just stick with serving breakfast items instead of adding something temporary that they clearly aren't pros at.

We also enjoyed their special pasta and the eggplant fries. Everyone was silent during dinner as they were busy enjoying. We also enjoyed our server who engaged with us entered great conversations and made tremendous recommendations. We loved the Friday night atmosphere as well make sure to grab a reservation.

My eyes were set on the Fat Boy (Double Cheese) but movie theater butter sounded fantastic too. Luckily, they will let you sample the offerings. I got what I call a small bag (there was a smaller bag) for about $9. Honestly, I don't want to know what's in this popcorn but you can't eat it out of the bag or you'll have cheesy hands. It definitely filled my desire. Based on past reviews, it sounds like this is a new location. This truly is a super cool, local business. It may be too convenient for me.
