This is what we wait for every year!
    Christine F.

A tradition for us every year is getting our maple cream eggs from Buddy Squirrel in St. Francis. It was a bit different this year with the Corona virus, they had curbside pick up. I ordered the day before online. I felt like it went down like one of those drug deals you see on tv. We honked the horn and they went to get our order. There was some confusion though. I did select store pick up but my order said it wss shipped? I didn't pay for shipping but will happily accept more eggs. It did take about 10 mins yo get our order straightened out. But honestly, i would wait all day!

I had fun at the open house last weekend and will definitely be back for another tour. The employees were nice and patient with all the visitors. Aside from the high prices, their chocolates and popcorn are so yummy and worth it. There is a private lot and the store is easy to access but not very roomy inside.

I had a flashback to my childhood, walking home from elementary school and stopping at the small store on the corner to buy penny candies and other goodies like banana flavored Now & Laters or candy cigarettes. I had to go into that store. Luke R. and Rachel F. were walking by. I pointed out the penny candy sign, and the four of us went in to explore. We found video boxes on display, shelves of candy galore and a fridge with sodas, not a commercial fridge but one like we'd have in our homes. I felt like I went back in time. I think we all did because we giggled and bounced around the store like we were kids! Did I buy any candy? You're damn right I did, and I'd go back and do it again!

What sorcery is this place?…read more And what year is it? And where I am? How have a I not stepped foot into this penny candy + DVD + pinball haven stuck in some sort of completely different dimension before? I mean, it's basically right next door to the Vanguard... It wasn't even on Yelp. I had to add it. Had a blast looking thru all these old-timey candies w/ Rick + Tim + Luke. They had those styrofoam-y UFO things that seemed questionable, sixlets, candy cigarettes, bubble-gum cigars, all the lemonheads/boston baked beans/etc. you could think of and so much more... Also: DVDs, if you're into that sort of thing. Also: pinball, if you're into that sort of thing. Also: a doll collection behind the counter, if you're into that sort of thing. I'm not really sure how this place still exists as a business, but hey! I like it. It's weird. Good stuff, you guys.

I'm…read moregoing to have to go back again really soon, because I never remember to take the pictures I need to do justice to this establishment and review. Suffice it to say, for now, that if you need a fruit or vegetable (the standards), a deli salad, garden plant (in season), seafood, pot pie, or sweet treat, get yourself to Layton Fruit Market. Today I tried two new items: German potato salad made by the famous Pulaski Inn of Cudahy, and safe-to-eat-raw chocolate chunk cookie dough. The former was nearly as good as my grandma's, with sufficient bacon and a well-balanced dressing. I prefer it hot, so a quick trip through the microwave and I was happy. The cookie dough was excellent--big CHUNKS of dark chocolate, and a yummy base sans eggs, making it safe for many.

Mostly, because I was so curious about what this little shop was about! This is a cute grocery store that offers a variety of everyday basics but also some interesting items. I enjoyed the selection of cheeses, premade deli salads, and tons of dessert options. They also had a nice selection of wine and beer. There is a big parking lot so parking was a breeze. Staff was friendly and helpful throughout. I will be back!

I was super surprised to see all of the offerings and the store layout totally isn't what I had expected. I've been to the places where they have glass counters and scoop up bags from behind - there is none of that here. The walls are adorned with bags of every variety of popcorn you could imagine from your standard white for $4 up to larger bags that will set you back over $15. My eyes were set on the Fat Boy (Double Cheese) but movie theater butter sounded fantastic too. Luckily, they will let you sample the offerings. I got what I call a small bag (there was a smaller bag) for about $9. Honestly, I don't want to know what's in this popcorn but you can't eat it out of the bag or you'll have cheesy hands. It definitely filled my desire. Based on past reviews, it sounds like this is a new location. This truly is a super cool, local business. It may be too convenient for me.

From visit on: 2/8/26 - late review!…read more My date and I were so excited to try the Eggs Benedict flight. We had reservations for Sunday at 11. Our server was very kind, great atmosphere in the place as well. We ordered a side of the potatoes and they came out nice and hot. Unfortunately, both of our Eggs Benedict flights were lukewarm at best, from the first bite. My date made a comment to the server and she offered to reheat. We initially declined but within a minute changed our mind. Our server was understanding and quickly brought over an extra flight (which I saw her bring from the heating lamps). This plate was also the same temperature. I really don't like to leave neutral or negative reviews, but it's unfortunate to spend money and have a less than par experience on the food we were looking forward to eating. We did take a small box to go and the crab cake heated up later was very delicious, but just not the same as if we had been given a hot meal to start at the restaurant. I've eaten here for dinner and was super impressed with the serving size, but I don't think I'd come back for brunch.
