PHENOMENAL GROUP!! Dr. T is the absolute BEST veterinarian I've ever had the pleasure of taking care of my fur babies! He is very kind, patient, knowledgeable and REALLY cares about his patients. It's very apparent! Dr. T saved my Yorkies life, who had just delivered seven babies. Oh, and he was also right about how many pups from an ultrasound! I value his expertise, kindness and follow up to check in on his patients! He genuinely cares. The ladies at the front desk and those answering the phones are incredible! They are always professional, compassionate and friendly. It's refreshing to experience such a positive, welcoming, and knowledgeable staff! Unfortunately, it's quite a rarity these days. Yelp reviews shouldn't always be about your favorite pizza place. Sometimes things get a little more serious. Today I want to review a business that I consider compassionate and best in class. First of all, what is a good example of compassion? Being sympathetic and warmly taking care of a pet that was in need of timely euthanasia. Euthanasia is definitely something you don't want to have to do or even think about, but it was clearly necessary and we knew it was the right time. Laurel Road Veterinary Clinic helped us almost immediately. From the time I called, they were able to squeeze us in for an appointment within 30 minutes. Kelly was the Receptionist/Assistant that took my telephone call. She was most understanding and a true professional. A pleasure to deal with. Thanks Kelly! The DVM that actually performed the service on my dog was a warm-hearted Nedra Barksdale. She thoroughly explained the procedure to me and made my dog comfortable. She was gentle and calm, making it a good experience for Grace dog. There was even a box of tissues for me since this was an emotional experience for the pet owner. With the quality of care being exceptional and the staff being so understanding and kind, I pass along my recommendation. We will use this group when we get our next dog. We took our sweet cavashon into the office for a check up. It was a beautiful modern office with two receptionists but only Ashley spoke up and was so sweet and friendly. The technician was also so friendly and welcoming which made our puppy so relaxed. Dr. Stager was amazing as well and her knowledge and love for animals was very apparent. She answered all of our questions. At check out, we saw Ashley again who lastly answered all of our questions and concerns. I would highly recommend this professional office for your fur babies. read more

This place is DIRTY, HORRIBLE SMELL WHEN YOU WALK IN THE DOOR AND THE STAFF IS THE WORSE I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED.. I was never so disgusted with a Veterinary clinic in all my years of taking my pets to others in the venice/nokomis area. First the stench smell of burning some sort of horrible incense was enough for my husband to walk outside. We only came here since my daughter was out of town and her dog got sick. They over charged on billing. lost one of her tests due to misplacing the blood work and the Nurse assistant named Kelly was totally out of focus. I asked her if something was wrong and she said she was OCD.. REALLY? and losing focus around pets ..I am a native of Florida and my vet on Venice island died and this was the closest choice and by far the worst choice.. Folks read some of the reviews before going here. I am not alone. read more

First, I don't understand the negative reviews on here. The volume and consistency of 5-star reviews across all other online platforms is a better indication of the quality of care at Laurel Road Vet Clinic. They moved to a state-of-the art facility and have the most caring, supportive, and compassionate doctors and techs. I've never experienced the level of dedication and patient care from my own human doctor that my dog receives here. Dr. Ilene thoroughly answers all questions and is great at follow up. I recommend her to all of my friends and many drive from Sarasota to see her. read more

I posted this review 6 months ago and it was removed??? If I could rate this zero I would. This office has gone so down hill since Dr Don passed away. Stay far away!!! I'm writing this just to give my own personal review. My dog was injured the other day in an accident, she was laying behind the wheel of my dads truck and he hit her. We immediately took her to Laurel Veterinarian off of Laurel Rd in Venice in the Venezia Plaza. They had us drop her off so that they could all their exams and an X-ray. When we came back they told us that she had no broken bones, no internal bleeding and that everything was fine. You just know when something is not just fine. Today we went to a different vet for another opinion. We knew something was wrong but we weren't getting any answers. The vet that we took her to today did one X-ray. Just one. And all of our questions were answered. Her tail is completely broken and there is pressure from the swelling being placed on her Intestines. There is also a fracture in her pelvis. I called Laurel Vet and I asked them why did they tell me my dog had no broken bones when that obviously is not the case. They said oh well we didn't do an X-ray there. A dog comes in, can't walk, tail limp and you didn't do a full X-ray? But you told me you in fact did and that she had no broken bones?! They apologized for their negligence and gave me a full refund but this weekend has been awful and their apology will never make up for their lack of care for my dog!! The vet today told us that we could have had a completely different outcome had the first vet done their job correctly. Laurel Vet failed to provide the appropriate care for my dog. They didn't give her an anti inflammatory, they didn't give her any pain meds and they didn't do a full X-ray like I was told they did! read more

I can understand how some of these people feel after losing their beloved pet but to solely blame the vet seems a bit harsh. People are misdiagnosed all the time and die as well which is no excuse but if the attempts at care were sincere and informed and the level of care as high as what I've seen from Dr. Ilene and her assistant, Ben, sometimes life just isn't fair. Our dog has always received a proper diagnosis and recovered with medications prescribed without incident. We will continue to take our furry family member to them without any hesitations or concerns. read more

Since Dr.Don passed....the clinic is very different....gone downhill. The doctor, Eileen, misdiagnosed our dog's problem & put him through unnecessary pain & suffering, plus "recovery time" which was also painful for him and painful for us to watch. Many visits....one time she didn't even see him after dropping him off, leaving him there terrified all day ! I had to pick him up & drive him back over the next day & put him through all of that again !! She did things we DIDN'T agree to causing him yet more discomfort !! False hope, much pain, & many dollars later...our beloved, sweet dog has died , we believe....with her help. He went out peacefully....without Laurel Vet being involved !! read more

Visited in November was concerned about my Cat bump on nose and weight & hair loss, had to wait at least 45 min with no one telling me why....when my cat was finally looked at all she did was rub a comb and quick say okay, I brought in a stool sample and never a word about it! 2 mos. later I took her to another vet concerned with her weight loss, she has Feline Hyperthyroidism. On medication and RX Food and now doing okay, but know this not good for older cat. Should have been checked on my visit to this Vet...will not return to this vet. read more

Dr Ilene completely missed a tumor in my golden retriever's chest, she treated him for constipation after reviewing xrays of his entire torso. The tumor ended up shutting down his entire system and he died 3 days later. Had she detected it, I could have put him down without putting him through all that pain. Shortly after his death, she improperly treated my Jack russel's skin infection with a powder that burned her skin. And in addition to both of those very frustrating visits (and many ER visits in between), Dr Ilene has since misdiagnosed and improperly treated our newest addition. There has been multiple times since Dr Ilene took over that we have been told they would call us with results and never heard anything, there have been times when my dogs have had to stay there during the day and when my husband got there at 4:30 pm (after being dropped off at 8am) the dogs still had not been treated...so we have switched to a new vet. The xrays they use are outdated and not clear at all. The girl who works the front desk never remembers anything I tell her even 5 mins later. There is a lot going on behind the scenes there, due to Dr Ilene dating Dr Don's son who is a vet tech there. Save yourself the trouble and go to a better, more professional vet. read more

Absolute nightmare!! Their actions caused my emotional and financial devastation with one of the worst things that ever happened to me. I brought my little girl in for a check up and shots. The vet said he felt a mass in her abdomen and we she bring her back the next day for an ultrasound which I did. While being forced to stay in the parking lot I get a call from the vet saying there was a tight s-bend in her intestine that could indicate a blockage. On top of that I was told there was food backed up in her intestine and up into her stomach up from that point which also indicated a blockage. I asked if there was any food below that point and he said no. On top of that I was further told there was fluid outside of her intestine which could indicate an intestinal rupture which could be life threatening. The vet highly recommended we take my girl in to a hospital for emergency surgery as soon as possible which I did. They cut her belly wide open and dug around in her belly looking for the blockage but instead they found nothing. No fluid, no tear, no s-bend, no blockage, no food. I was so beside myself I had ask them to describe my little girl to make sure they were looking at the right dog. I called Laurel to ask what the deal was and I was forwarded to an office manager who said all he could do was read me the ultra sound report which said exactly what I was told and have a vet call the next day. The next day I get a call from a different vet who also offered to read the report to me and he said the actual vet would call me back the following day. He never called. I called the office manager back and explained my utter horror at what had happened and he asked what I wanted. I said he could never fix what me and my little girl had been through but the very least he could do was refund the $6000 they cost me. He said no. When I said I'd look into going to small claims court he said he would forward my case to his company lawyers. Thanks for creating my living horror and then threatening me with lawyers! My research showed that vet lawyers end out costing more than you can typically recover so I'm just heart broken for my little girl that got cut wide open, I'm out thousands and Laurel's response is we'll send our lawyers. Please save yourself and your pet! read more
