This particular horse that is skye blue and beautifully designed sits off of Frankfort ave in front of porcinis. Overall it's always fun to discover and find these wonderfully painted horses statues. This one is easy to spot as it sits on a sidewalk right in front of a popular Italian eatery in a hot spot part of the city.

What a blast! A friend won a pair of tickets to Swig and…read moreinvited me to be her plus one. I excitedly said yes! I had heard good things in past years and I couldn't wait to get to experience it myself! Louisville Swig is a party to remember! Or...since it is a repeal day party with more liquor than you could even imagine and very little food...if you aren't careful, it could be a party you can't help but forget! Lol! So prepare before hand with some pizza or tacos or something to help keep you upright with all the boozy offerings. And put those ride share apps on your phone to good use! There was seemingly endless entertainment, with more to see around every turn! Just past the first room with local beers...was a sign beckoning you to the speakeasy! In the speakeasy, there was not just Old Forester beverages...but also Hound Dog Press where you could press a postcard and live music and photo booths, Oh My! Making our way to the main room, we were pleased to see people with pizza boxes handing out Wick's pieces all around! What a great idea! And a tasty one too! We started to make our way around the main room, sampling the drinks that appealed to us (scotch! wine! Ballotin! Rivulet! champagne!). The main complaint I had, as with most events of this size and nature, is the dearth of trash receptacles. One only has so much carrying-in-one's-hand-space. I was always looking around for a place to get rid of my empties. The food that was available was great as well! BBQ, a mac & cheese bar, sushi, and sweets! I don't know if I could pick a favorite....but a build-your-own mac and cheese *IS* a pretty awesome idea! More live music, dancing, and gorgeous outfits donned by all...an exceptional party and a spectacular time! I was lucky enough to attend as someone's plus one at no cost to myself...but I would ABSOLUTELY buy tickets for next year's event! With what you get just by being there...it is more than worth the price of entry! I hope I have the opportunity to attend next year!

So many people dressed the part and looked great! We arrived right before the VIP hour started at 6:00pm. The check in process outside was kind of a cluster. We stood in line outside to have our IDs checked and wristbands applied but the staff were confused on the process. When we finally entered the event a staff handed us a ticket but didn't say anything about the ticket. I asked the staff upstairs in the VIP area about the ticket but she didn't know what it was for. We enjoyed the bourbon cocktail, champagne, and hors d'oeuvre's. Photo booths are my favorite and I was excited to see one there. Around 6:40pm we asked the upstairs staff if we could go downstairs to start sampling... she told us to go ahead and that everything was open to us. On our arrival downstairs the staff told us that we had to go back up to the VIP area until 7:00pm. I wish we could have had a small window to sample the food and drinks before the general admission ticket holders arrived. I really enjoyed the pork and broccoli salad from Martins BBQ. I had several of the chocolate martinis from Four Roses. I loved the little martini glasses that the chocolate martinis were served in. My fiancé enjoyed stamping his own ice with the roses stamp for his bourbon on the rocks. I was excited to see Titos there with two drinks. I tried the cranberry mule and it was very refreshing. I felt like the space was a little too small for the amount of people there. It was hard to navigate around people to try everything. On our way out we finally figured out where to turn in our tickets for the VIP bag. The VIP bag included 2 glasses and a set of Clayton & Crume leather coaster. Overall we had a good time at the event but I was surprised at how disorganized it was in it's 6th year. I would attend Louisville Swig event again but I don't know if I would pay full price for the VIP. I would definitely pay for the VIP if we had access to everything before the official event started. This is such a fun, unusual way to see Christmas lights. Driving through the cavern is an…read moreexperience most cities don't offer. Be prepared on the weekends as lines can get long. It's widely suggested to not go on a weekend if you want to get in quickly. Once inside, the drive takes about 30 minutes. They have new, creative shows every year that appeal to all ages. The kids especially loved the Disney sections, and there is a very nice tribute to local first responders and police officers. Highly recommended for a climate-controlled holiday outing, who doesn't love to have their windows down to listen to Christmas music in the winter and not be cold.

Not only is it insane that you literally are driving into a huge cavern in your own vehicle but the size of it is is ridiculous. Then add in the light shows and it's breathtaking! TikTok really has opened my eyes to hidden treasures everywhere. I'm sure that I'm not the only one…read morethat feels this way. When you doom scroll, you come across many different places that are true hidden gems. Door To Nowhere, or Heigold House, is definitely an oddity and salute to the past. Some housekeeping, you know, things to know about this place. BE CAREFUL. This sits on a roundabout island with steady traffic. Be mindful to the traffic flow and businesses nearby (I parked at a nearby business off the road and walked over here). Be kind to the natural beauty that surrounds this. And most of all, be respectful. As I said, this sits on a roundabout with flowerbeds surrounding it. Whether you are facing front, as in looking at the front of the façade, or looking from the rear, please stay on the sidewalks provided. Take in the informational plaques as well. Built by Christian H Heigold, a successful stonecutter. Majority of the house was completed in 1853. Heigold was a master at stonecutting and completed the home with busts of Presidents George Washington and James Buchanan. Heigold was also a staunch opponent of the 'Know Nothing Party,' and anti-immigration political party and I would like to think that he built his house with all the busts was a big middle finger to those that were anti-immigration. This façade sat in what was known as the The Point neighborhood, which was favored by those that moved to the city from the New Orleans area. Once Louisville diverted the Beargrass Creek away from downtown, this place started to flood annually. Shifting people away from the neighborhood and then the Great Flood of 1937 happened. Slowly the city started buying houses and demolishing them. Ultimately using the land as a dump site. Then this façade was listed on the National Registry of Historical Places. Remained in that area which became Thruston Park. That is until a developer bought the land adjacent to this and build condos. They moved this massive beast, 70,000-pounds, across River Road to where it sits today.

I love the F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop. I'm a big fan of free fun events around Louisville, and the…read moreF.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop is definitely one of them. The last Friday of every month you can ride the trolleys up and down Frankfort Avenue (F.A.T. stands for Frankfort Avenue Trolley) and check out all the local businesses the street boasts. There are so many amazing shops and restaurants in that area, and most of them run specials during the trolley hop. The most recent F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop event was at the end of September and was sponsored by Maker's Mark. Yelp was there to help too, giving out red wigs to all and awesome Yelp and Maker's swag to those who checked in to the event. It was an awesome night! Of course, the trolley hop is different each month, and doesn't always have a sponsor like the most recent event, but it's always a great time! And, if the Maker's Mark sponsored trolley hop does sound like it's right up your alley, make sure to check it out next year (it's an annual event). I highly recommend checking out the F.A.T. Friday Trolley Hop if you haven't been before, and if you've been in the past and haven't gone for a while you should get back out there! Trust me, it's a fun time!
