Lavender Retreat Wellness is truly an experience. You can tell upon entering that owner Jaime has an eye for detail and perfection. Frances is an amazing acupuncturist. She is so personable and always asks if there are any new areas she needs to work on. I look forward to going every Friday after work. It puts me in a relaxed mood for the weekend and more important my body and energy feel great. Love that they serve a cup of tea before leaving (if you like) which warms me before going out into the cold. I followed Frances and Dr. Natalie to Lavender Retreat from Tulsi Holistic (now closed). It was an upgrade, that's for sure! Frances has treated me for about 12 months and I feel so much ready to tackle my day to day tasks after her sessions. I made the mistake of becoming "too busy" for about three months. MAN, can you feel a difference! I've now also tried ear candling and massage from Linda. Ear candling was a strange but wonderful experience and helped with my issues. I can't emphasis enough: this isn't just for leisure or relaxation-- it's for health. Just had my first ever massage at Lavendar Retreat with Linda. Can't say enough good things. The space is beautiful and extremely calming. The woman at reception was warm and kind and made me feel welcomed right away. The room where the massage was preformed smelled lovely and was very thoughtfully decorated. I highly recommend Lavender Retreat. My husband and I each got a massage from Linda. Her technique seemed to be a combination of sports and Thai massage in that she applied deep pressure and also stretched me in ways that felt amazing. The spa itself is also extremely nice--a well decorated, warm, and delicious-smelling renovated row house. Customer service is terrific. I contacted the business for a girlfriends' spa afternoon more than two months in the future. They asked me to come in to discuss, which I did and was kept for an hour. We discussed and agreed on price and services. The owner seemed really nice and eager to help. She talked up what they could do. I was promised a written proposal within a week. It never came. I contacted the owner and was told she was traveling so the proposal would be a little late. That was fine. I never got the proposal. This business lost 6 potential clients, 2 of whom live on Capitol Hill. Sadly, I really wanted to support this local business. read more

I had been experiencing back pain for a few weeks now and finally decided to do something about it. To my surprise, I found Lavender Retreat just a few blocks from my home! I discovered them via Yelp just last night and was able to make an appointment for a massage (with Linda!) early this afternoon. Everything was fantastic from the minute I entered to the minute I left. Of course the highlight was the incredibly relaxing full-body massage, but the personable staff, immaculate facility, and warm citrus tea were also appreciated! I found this place in Eastern Market and it is SUCH A GEM!! It is so beautiful on the inside and makes you feel like you stepped into an oasis! I have gotten a facial and acupuncture and loved the acupuncture so much that I bought a packaged of 6!!! The therapist is EXTREMELY professional and knowledgeable! I cannot stop telling everyone about her!!! She has helped me so much already and her work space is like being in a spa! MUST GO NOW. STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND MAKE AN APPT. I've been coming to Lavender Retreat for about a month and a half now, for therapeutic massage to address a health condition. WOW. What a peaceful, professional, beautiful, clean well-managed spa--and what gifted practitioners!! I prefer deep tissue/trigger point massages, and I've received excellent treatments from Patricia Huggins, Stephanie, Linda, and Andrea. The front office staff are incredibly congenial and friendly. Lavender Retreat is a hidden gem in SE DC! I highly recommend this spa is a must for anyone looking for not just a great treatment but a great spa experience. From the moment you walk into the spa, you are transported to a French boutique, with fragrant aromas inviting you in. The front desk associate is polite, cheerful, informative, and welcoming (even the first time I walked in just looking around and getting a price sheet). Frank was my therapist and I got a deep tissue massage and a facial. Both were the best I have had to memory and I probably get 3-4 each a year! He applied just the right amount of pressure and even though I asked for more pressure at the beginning, when he got to a tender spot on my back, he adjusted his pressure slightly before I even had to ask him! He was very intuitive and had such a pleasant demeanor. During my facial, everything felt so relaxing, I vollied between states of consciousness but I kept trying to stay awake because I did not want to miss anything! The spa itself is beautiful and spacious. Don't be fooled by the small outside appearance, this spa goes back and opens in the back to a lovely courtyard with plenty of sitting, and a well manicured greenspace. Inside there are 2 sitting area that are warm and serene. (I explored the common areas just marveling at how every inch of the space was so beautifully designed). I had a shoulder/neck warming wrap placed on my shoulders while I filled out my forms and sipped on a cup of tea. Even the cup was elegant. The design was impeccable, so even while I waited, it felt like all my senses were already being pampered. I have already told 2 friends about this place and the next time she visits, this will be a spa we will visit. I am sad I did not know about this place for Valentines Day and Mothers day, but I am so glad I stumbled upon it. read more

This used to be the spot for me but NOT anymore. If you want to be treated like garbage, go to Lavendar Retreat. I'm appalled at how bad their service is and the rudeness of their staff there - encouraged by the owner - Jaime. I had a HORRIBLE experience with Lavender Retreat this past week. I booked a massage over the phone. When I showed up for my appointment, I was held up for 15 minutes and then informed that even though my deep tissue massage cost one price, they would have to charge me an additional $15 gratuity fee upfront. This is a low for a establishment and does not give the therapist motivation to do an excellent job. Gratuity based on service and should not be forced on the customer. There is only one good therapist at this location is literally dunzo once she leaves. Sounds to me like Lavender Retreat has fallen upon hard times. Once I told them that I did not wish to proceed with service there and started to leave, the front desk lady nonchalantly said she was going to proceed to bill me for services for that day that I had NOT even received. HORRIFIC behavior, extremely rude, LOW BLOW!!! JAMIE - Shame on you for enabling such BAD behavior from your staff. SHAME ON YOU for treating your loyal customers like crap. I am NOT a fan of your retreat and will shout from the rooftops that everyone, their mama and dogs should run for their lives. read more

So after a long day at work on my birthday my girlfriend wanted to do something nice for me after I insisted on a low key Birthday. Enter the idea of getting a massage. Called a few places but most had nothing available then she called Lavender. This should have been our first call. They just happen to have an opening for a massage in 30 minutes from the call. Zoomed over and once I walked in I knew it was a great choice. Right out of the gate I was greeted with a huge friendly smile from Jamie the owner. My appointment was set with Steven. I have had several professional massages from guys before so this wasn't an issue for me. My only complaint about massages for men from men is that the male masseuses usually are really rough and use a ton of pressure. Steven was awesome!! After some exploratory questions about my typical day and work environment (in front of a computer at a desk all day) he described the typical problem points on someone like me and described his massage plan. He then executed it with total precision and was very thorough. He did an amazing job and I was very happy with the results. After my 60 minute massage I went back downstairs and paid. During my "checkout" process I was offered a water bottle and then Jamie also invited me to stay for tea. I agreed and she then went in the back and made the most amazing tea that obviously did not come from a keurig. I sat in the lounge and enjoyed my tea and took in the comfort of the art work and decorations. Everything was very relaxing and after a few minutes she came over and joined me and we talked. Jamie showed me around the establishment and explained her vision for future enhancements. After 10 minutes or so I got a call from my uber driver telling me he was outside and I was actually considering cancelling so I could stay. So long story short you should try this place. I had a great time and everyone was professional and good at what they did but also gave me a feeling of comfort like I was at a friends house. I plan on sending my girlfriend back to try them out herself. read more
