We stopped in here to get our daily caffeine fix while visiting Sturgeon Bay and I have to say this is probably some of the best specialty coffee beverages I have had in a long time, it is a shame they are not local to me. We tried the Smoked Mocha (iced), Carmello (iced), and the Apple Cider Latte (hot). All of the drinks were amazing - everything was homemade that went into it and you could tell. The coffee was fresh and delicious and the homemade syrups really elevated the drink - this reminded me of a swanky bar more than a small town coffee shop. Awesome stuff. The bakery items also looked super yummy - the scones were amazing! They are in an old bank so it is a neat little walk around the building. Visited on a weekday afternoon, about an hour before close. There were quite a few other parties studying or chatting with their company. The space is historic with a modern flare. Our barista was friendly and timely in making our drinks. I had the Bergamot Matcha, which was good. Love that the drink is made with oat milk to begin with! The lavender-bergamot syrup was very subtle. My partner had the Carmello - she enjoyed it. Their menu has a great selection - from the basics (cappuccinos, lattes, etc) to more crafted wonders - everyone should be able to find something they might enjoy. In Sturgeon Bay and some friends told me about Lawless. It's a boutique shop attached to an art gallery that has some incredible work and a hardworking owner. They have an incredible selection of beans from some of the finest artisan roasters. We had an Onyx Costa Rican and a couple of iced coffees for the road. I stumbled across this place while on vacation. I can't say enough about the quality of staff, coffee, and bakery. My husband gives me a hard time all of the time, because I am super high maintenance about my coffee. We also need to be high maintenance about our baked goods, because we have one child who is egg free and one child who is dairy free, and this place excelled at all of the above. We come from a community that has extensive vegan bakeries, and these baked goods were amazing! You would never know. Please visit them!!!!!!! PS I think they have cocktails too! read more

The coffee is ok here however, this is coffee for people who really don't like coffee and like flavorful sweet drinks. I had the chai. This chai is extra spicy which made it great for me! I wish it would have been about half as sweet and it would have been a home run. The other drink we had was a tootsie roll which tastes like a grown up hot chocolate so if you love chocolate this is your jam! As a person that frequents coffee shops throughout the county I have to say Lawless is up there in terms of quality, care for product and barista experience. I spent some time chatting with the baristas and they all knew their product in and out. One of the barista's even specially roasted a coasta rican bean for me prior to my departure. Another one of those steps above and beyond. This is, hands down, the best coffee shop in the door county area. They recently began roasting and have the chops of a shop who has been doing it for 15 years. I'd liken them to an Onyx or a Victrola in terms of quality yet they haven't lost their small shop feel. Bear in mind, this is not a starbucks copycat. If you're looking for a 30 ounce sugary drink this is not your place. But if you are excited about quality product and highly knowledgeable staff you can't go wrong here. read more

The Lawless Coffee shop is a special place and a true hidden gem. They feature espresso from Onyx and drop coffee from a local roaster in Door County's Ephraim. In addition to some top-notch coffees they really have their service dialed in! A shop like this could be found in a much larger urban city, such as Chicago or LA. But, instead, they're rocking the Sturgeon Bay scene. And they know their stuff: Slayer single group espresso machine, cold brew dripper from Yama, Kruve glassware, and the list could go on. I had a straight shot of 'spro that was bright and full of body. I also tried their cold brew and it was very well balanced. Atmospherically the shop is very, very tastefully done. If we had coffee only, I would give 5 stars. Unfortunately the food we had brought it down a few ratings. The chocolate croissants were bland, more doughy than flaky and crunchy like a traditional croissant. The monkey bread looked super delicious, but unfortunately lacked favor and was very dry.
