This has been a HORRIBLE experience. The type of care is completely substandard. The nurses have a God Complex and behaved upset when I pointed out that I needed Vaseline to coat the stitches of a previous surgery and was told that the hospital had none so my stitches dried up. How could a hospital not have Vaseline? It took 20 hours from point of entry to actually see an ER Dr who had no idea of how to treat me. Stay away. read more

Dr.Dahlberg, Carl R, was horrible, I had to advocate for myself the whole 10 hours I was there doubled over in menstrual cramps. His medical assistant was no help, she did not fight for me either. They both kept insisting discharging me, although I was still in pain and currently vomiting bile, and still did. She was at least smart enough to coverup her name on her badge because she knew this review was going up. I would never recommened LGH ever again in life. Take the extra time and go to Methuen. Brought my 8-year-old daughter here for emergency services, and although Lawrence couldn't solve our problem, Dr. Brian Glaser went above and beyond to help us get on our way to Boston Children's. I want to compliment the Lawrence General Hospital orthopedic center at 165 Haverhill St. , Andover,MA . Zach Zuber worked Physical Therapist has been such a great help to me . He has helped me to curb the pain while I am awaiting surgery in my left leg due to sciatica and pinched nerve pain. I plan to go back to Zach after the surgery this late fall to get me back to 100%. The reception folks are always friendly and helpful. Just a great place to go to get help. read more

2.5 Stars Came here today take a family member for a day procedure. The check-in process and finding the area we needed to go to was a bit confusing. While the check in folks were friendly there was not a sense of urgency to check folks in. Additionally, the parking is pretty far away. Yo get to hospital it is up a pretty steep hill. They do offer free valet parking which some folks might prefer. With that said all of the nurses I interacted with were very thoughtful and nice. read more

I know the city of Lawrence has a reputation of being a tough place but I can tell you firsthand, the hospital is a godsend for this area. After seeing many people and neighbors treated at Lawrence General, the hospital punches way above its weight. The ED is fantastic even if you have to wait a long time. They are a emergency cardiac center with a 24 hour cardiac lab, a trauma center in between three major highways, Stroke center, and a lot more. All of that while surviving in a lower socioeconomic surrounding and probably getting WAY underpaid by Medicaid. The people who work there are mission oriented, not profit oriented, and it makes all the difference. I know some of you out there may have had a bad experience, but that has not been the reality for us. I could probably point you to 100 people I know that have been there and been surprised by how competent and how compassionate the staff are. read more

MDs and NPs good. The majority of nurses were good. A couple acted like they hated their jobs. The Latina aids were horrible on every level. They took forever to answer lights, never smiled, were rough when providing care. I'm not sure how the outpatient pre- and post surgery was really great and inpatient was so bad. Shout out to ICU nurses, telemetry nurses Bree, Jamie, and Jackie, and Angie and Shawna on 4. I will not go back to this hospital. read more

I'd leave 0 stars if I could. Dr Brian Glaser is the absolute worst doctor I've ever seen in my entire life. It's as if he has absolutely no medical training at all. He's arrogant and cocky and has no empathy for any of his patients. He also just has no idea what he's talking about and will misdiagnose you with anything just to get you out of there. I went to Lawrence General ER twice screaming and crying in pain and he accused my boyfriend of 4 years as not being "monogamous" and the reason for all my pain was likely an STD. He also said it was all "in my head." Not being able to sleep for 5 nights because I can't even lie down because I'm in so much pain or keep any food down or passing out from the pain is not "in my head". All those STD tests came back negative...I went to see another doctor who actually has half a brain and turns out I have kidney stones AND an ulcer. I wouldn't go back to this hospital if my life depended on it. The people who worked in the office were extremely disorganized and also looked as though they'd rather be scrubbing a 5 year old construction site porta potty seat toilet with their tongue than do their job. read more

My friend has been laying in the hall way on a stretcher in agony since 3:00 yesterday, over 18 hours. No ice, no heat, no meds, nothing!!!!!! Her dr thinks she needs immediate back surgery and I'm afraid she will have a heart attack waiting. They refused to give her a bed. Said they need them for people who need monitoring. She is over 60, diabetic and I'm sure her blood pressure is way high do to the severity of the pain. I'm ready to call an ambulance to bring her to another hospital. They won't let me in to see her. Our family was able to be with her last night until 9;30, now we can't visit. Waiting room is empty, so they aren't even busy. Pretty sure they don't want any witnesses to their lack of care. If love the person needing medical attention DO NOT BRING THEM TO LAWRENCE GENERAL HOSPITAL!!! So serious!!!! read more

I went to emergency room. I signed in and provided insurance info. They took my temperature and said to wait in the waiting area. Three hours later they could give me no indication of when I would be seen so I left. They sent me a bill for $832. Have been battling with them for 4 months to get this bill cleared. I am not going to pay them $832 for taking my temperature. This amount is outrageous for the 10 minutes they spent on me, even if insurance eventually pays. p.s. This place has gotten worse. I you have a problem, it take 2 1/2 weeks for a prescription. If you call, all I get is a voice mail. It's over a week and a half and still no response to my voice mails. I have called 5 times and left 2 messages. I feel my health is of no concern to patients. I would hate to think it is because I am older and retired. I was sent a survey and asked if I thought that prejudice was a factor or do I think it was a factor in my care. This was well before this post. I was told one day, as per when I talked to the Dr. I replied what Dr. I never spoke to one. Then they said when you talked to the NP. I never spoke to the NP. Until months after I was diagnosed. My Dr. Sent paperwork saying she wanted me seen because I was having to much problems. I was very sick. My Dr. Said I was healthy but, no gym or driving much until this gets figured out. Looks like I will have to contact another another sleep clinic for help. So the Hospital a few miles from my house just can't help. read more

BE VERY CAREFUL at Lawrence General Outpatient Rehab on 323 Lowell st. They will ROB you. I went after a back surgery, and really didn't much therapy. I asked the front desk how much the charge would be INCLUDING deductible and co-payment, and was told no fee. That surprised me, although I do have very good insurance. So I went on to ask 3 more times to the point they were getting aggravated, each time replying no payment was going to be billed. I actually went back a second time based on this. A FULL 3 months later I received a bill for $685 of which insurance covered approx. $280, and had a balance of over $400 for those two visits. I talked to their billing dept. at least 4 times explaining, each time them saying they would get back to me. Now today I received a note threatening to send my bill to a credit agency. It feels weird writing a review for an emergency visit, but I was quite impressed by the efficiency of Lawrence General's ER. I went there with chest pain and difficulty breathing and did not have to wait very long to be seen. They ordered tests with rapidity and determined that I was OK. No, you're not going to be coddled--you'll be discharged ASAP if you're fine--and it isn't a substitute for medical treatment. Turns out I wasn't having a heart attack (thank goodness) so I followed up with my PCP. If you're annoyed about having waited a long time and you didn't die so you're here now writing a one star review--that just means that they triaged you correctly. I've had actual *appointments* at Lawrence General in the past and the doctors are always knowledgeable but work extremely fast. If you need a lot of reassurance and someone to tell your whole story to, or if you need complicated care, you might want to go somewhere else. read more

The staff here were shockingly unprofessional. The person I brought here (keeping them anonymous) collapsed in the ER and was violently vomiting on the ground for 15 minutes before they brought him in. When the nurse called his name he said he couldn't get up and she replied "well you walked in here, didn't you?" Once inside the hospital, we heard staff talking loudly talking about their personal lives (shopping, boyfriends, etc.) and making fun of patients-- "hemorrhoids guy"-- for the public to hear. It took 7 hours to be seen by a doctor, and I understand they are busy, but there were plenty of nurses gossiping that could have been making patients more comfortable in the meantime. COVID Rapid testing is anything but rapid it has been over 50 hours and 2 1/2 day, 4 tele phone injury calls on my behalf to be told the hospital is ill equipped to process my test. My COVID test was sent to a LAB because this hospital could not process my test. This information was not disclosed at the time of my test, nor, did any hospital staff call or email me to inform me of this change. My telephone and email were provided on the test form. DO NOT use this inept facilit, especially if you need your test results to return to work. I will miss three days of pay because this facility did not disclose its inability to process my test. The oath to do no harm to patients need not apply here, furthermore, no information is available as to when my test result will be available. My boyfriend had his tonsils and adenoids out on 5/26. The surgical day staff were phenomenal! They all had a great sense of humour, and they helped my boyfriend feel more at ease. His overnight nurse Jessica was very attentive. My boyfriend was admitted to a room on the fourth floor, and all those rooms should have been single occupancy. They could barely fit his roommate's bed past his when they wheeled in his roommate. They chose to put this gentleman by the window, although he required frequent checks. Whenever he needed to be checked, my boyfriend's mother and I had to move our chairs. The only chairs that would even fit in there were small hard-back chairs with padded seats. We also had concerns with the 5/26 3-8p nurse, Joane. My boyfriend was feeling pretty well until she took his vitals and told him to cough. This made him really hurt. Then she said she probably shouldn't have said that. This really set him back and put him in a lot of pain. She gave him codeine, which did nothing. He had to wait for Jessica to come in; thankfully, Jessica quickly gave him a fast acting med in his IV. Joane didn't ask how he was doing. She did bark at me to move my chair, even after I explained to her my boyfriend was coming back from the bathroom and needed to put his IV stand there. Later, she shoved the other man's food tray completely over my boyfriend's bed. She was so careless with him that we waited past visitor's hours until we were sure she had left. My boyfriend's mother got a very stale muffin at the Starbucks in the hospital, and on another day, his uncle got food that was expired. read more

He's six years old should there be priorities or pediatric ER. My review is a bit mixed.. I went here for shortness of breath and tightness in my chest. When I arrived I told The woman at the ER desk why I was there. She told me to have a seat and fill out paperwork. I did, and gave it back. They called me in and did an ekg. Then told me to go sit back down. I was in waiting room from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. After all that time I was finally brought to a bed in the hall. It was quite amusing watching the people and their situations going on in front of me. A few laughs and a few scares... I was sent for a few tests and then dr said he was keeping me. I had Covid pneumonia. Later that night they moved me into an ER room. I stayed 2 nights there. The day nurses were all so helpful. The night nurses on Wednesday were awesome too. Thursday night the nurses never bothered with me, when I asked for anything the one nurse at the desk snapped and acted like she didn't care at all. She was very rude. The next day was Friday and I had the day nurses again. So sweet. I remember one names Liz who was so amazing. I was discharged even though I still felt that tightness in my chest. Saturday I was rushed by ambulance back to LGH. Same issues only I felt like the pressure on my chest was a million times heavier. I ended up being admitted 10 days with acute heart failure. The 5th floor staff was so amazing. Not a single bad thing I could say about them. They all went above and beyond. They saved me. I am forever thankful to them all. Dr. Mohammed is an Angel. He definitely cares for his patients and I am greatly appreciative of him. I think the hospital gets a bad reputation because of its location. And maybe there are a few things the ER needs to work on. Overall I think the ER and the majority of its staff do a great job dealing with a lot of difficult situations and people. I will go back to them if needed. Sometimes us who are patients have to be more patient! read more

On Tuesday, July 5 2022. My mother died in the hall of the emergency department in this hospital. My mother was 90 and she had been bedridden 4 5 months. She was living in an assisted living facility close to Lawrence. My mother had already requested to go to the hospital when I went Into the assisted living facility to see her. To me it was obvious my mother was definitely Very close to dying. She went by ambulance to She went by ambulance to Lawrence General hospital. I was told to wait in the waiting room of the emergency department until she was put into a room. I waited for almost 3 hours she was not put in to a room I waited for almost 3 hours was told They had no idea when my mother would be put into a room. I heard from the 5 1⁄2 hours later5 1⁄2 hours later She had A few tests done But it was still in the hallway. The next time I heard from the doctor My mother was fighting for her life for the last 20 minutes. They could not keep her heart pumping I decided to Let her go. I was then told that she was still in In the hall when Her heart stopped. My mother's symptoms She was very confused which was not her normal state of mind, And it was very hard to wake her up. Even I know That those are classic signs The patient is close to death. And I found it odd She spent so much time in the hallway because they had no room for her But as She was dying all of a sudden there was a Room available For them to work on her And let her die. This is a horrible hospital I would never Recommend anyone going To this place. They treated my mother As a statistic. Just 1 more body that came in. The unthinkable happened.... As a any years as Ive lived where I do, up and down the stairs, yesterday I somehow fell down entire flight. I still don't know how but there was no stopping me. Finding myself alive at the bottom I tried to think and get my bearings before trying to stand. Anyway, I got up, gingerly climbed up and waited a very short while before realizing that I needed to get to a hospital. The closest is Lawrence General. I was afraid to take an ambulance because in doing so I would be entering the hospital all alone. Also no ride back home... So I called a nearby friend who came right away. Entering the reception seems strange. The person I checked in with is behind what appeared to be a bulletproof screen/ glass. They took my info & called me in within minutes. They did the triage thing. Apparently I was bad enough that they brought me into a room in the ER right away, got an IV started & asked me questions regarding the fall. Within minutes again I was being x-rayed and had a CT scan. All went quite well other than the x-ray people... It was very difficult for me to move in any way shape or form. .the pain beyond severe. The tech could have been better .. but we got through it. Back to the room.... I saw another Dr again who gave me the findings... Possible right wrist chip fracture, extensive bruising BUT my. CT scan looked good. I had sort of refused pain meds because I was alone & concerned about being aware and remembering everything...but agreed to take them now. I was at the level of just kill me and get it over with .... 10 was putting it mildly. So into the IV it went.... I got foggy & didn't care. . Then, time to go. I sent my friend a text & he was there in a short while. I must state that - Yes, I've had better experiences at other hospitals. But this one at Lawrence general was very good. I believe I got good care in regards to what was wrong with me. The hospital was clean and anyone I interacted with were very professional. Now all I need to do is get better.... read more

My 27-year-old daughter went to urgent care because she thought she had strep throat. Her heart rate was high blood pressure low so to be safe they did a 12 lead EKG, and highly suggested she goes to the ER. Lawrence, general being the closest one to home, she went there. There were two other people in the waiting room. When I arrived 30 minutes later, there were may be about six or seven people. They called her back and shortly after that called me. We sat in the first hallway where they should be taking your vitals for a few minutes, then we were sent down a long hallway just to sit on a bed in that hallway. It's been well over an hour now since we've been there. They come back tell her they made a mistake and send her back up to the chairs where she should have her vitals done. 10 minutes later, a nurse comes out grabs the print out of her. EKG says the doctor is going to look at it. 5 minutes later she tells us to please go wait in the waiting room again. Which now is packed. Number one she's in there for low blood pressure and accelerated heart rate and they didn't even take her vitals. WTF! So we left. When the nurses are walking down the hallway, high-fiving their patients there's an issue. So I will be taking her to the better hospital around town. And they better hope to God nothing happens to my daughter. read more

My husband was taken there on August 5th and I wasn't allowed to see him at all, neither was our 10 year old daughter. He was discharged on Aug 29th and they never told me! The entire staff there are very rude, all grade C "RNs"...They hire anyone that can take a damn pulse. Never again will my husband go to that nasty hospital. The food sucks, nurses aren't so bright, they over Medicate patients, and treat them poorly! My husband wanted to be discharged home and they would not allow him, yeah...lawsuit pending. He has a huge stage 2 bedsore on his bum because they are too lazy to turn him every 2 hours. He had no bedsores When he left home. When he was admitted he was not even ill. I was bought in by a ambulance. With difficult breathing and heart palpitations. Since the ER was full, I was left in the hallway. I get it, it does happen. Anyways I was put on IV had CT Scan, X-ray, and EKG all came back fine. Only time my heart rate went high was when they checked to see if taking off my oxygen mask. Which it spike high again so the ER doctor very nice and polite. Told me I was getting admitted for further testings and observation. I told her my body aches so bad and this stretcher is not helping it. She responded with soon you will be comfortable. So hours pass the nurse Dave that got assigned to me hardly checked on me. I asked a few times for water never got it. So finally after almost 5 hours that felt like 8 hours came by I had to say excuse me, he comes over and I asked him when you think I will be going to a room. His rude response oh you are staying here. In my mind I am like are you serious with all these bright lights, noises, and then a patient came in throwing up and gagging. I was like nope I told him I want to leave. So he gets a little rude starts unplugging my IV's btw I had two IV's going and says give me 10 minutes so I can get the ER Dr to come talk to you. 10 minutes pass and the nurse Dave comes back with my Discharge papers. I could have been rude back. But myself having a degree in the medical field I would never be rude especially to a patient. I have always like this hospital, but cause of one rude heartless nurse. The staff from the valet to the physician were organized, caring, kind and professional. The wait time in the Emergency Room was less than an hour. The RNs and Dr Sweetra were great, correctly diagnosing my muscle pull ( It felt like a tear ) and providing treatment solutions for that problem. My wife was involved in a car crash in Andover and was transported to Lawrence General because ambulance driver refuse to go a little farther to Salem NH. After driving there in a downpour I was told to wait in because she had just got there, an hour after her accident which happened 5 miles away! The waiting room looked like a homeless shelter. Of course because of their poor job handling Covid I could not see my wife during the 3 hour wait while they did tests. After all that it took almost 2 months and several phone calls to get them to send the bill to our insurance and it was over $14000! I don't know what they spend the money on but it sure isn't quality of care or updating the waiting room which, in case they don't realize it, is important! I would not go there if we had a choice and our lives depended on it!! read more

Please make yourself a favor and don't come to Lawrence General Hospital ER. This is the third bad experience I had. Come in with my son with broken lips, waited about 3 hours and got a nurse that wanted to draw blood. Even third world countries now that all you need is to clean the cut and put stitches. The Nurse didn't even know why she needed to do that. Asked for a floor supervisor and only got another nurse to come to talk to us. What a disgrace this hospital is for Lawrence. I was sent to LGH for lab work. Blood and urinalysis. The Technician was very nice and seemed to be knowledgeable. However, after having my blood drawn I had to provide a urine sample. She pointed me in the direction of the ladies room. Upon entering this room I observed urine splattered floors. The toilet was so low to the floor You needed to be a contortionist to provide a sample. With two hip replacements and a body riddled with arthritis I proceeded to attempt to fulfill my mission. As a result of this dysfunctional outdated bathroom facility, I ended up urinating on the floor, on myself and managed to get a few drops in the container. The bathroom was a disgrace. Filthy and disgusting. I needed to rush home to sterilize myself and my clothing. I have written to the LGH regarding this issue. I should think they could spare a little of their budget to install a safe and practical bathroom facility for their patients . I will not be using this facility anytime soon for any testing if I can help it. It's an accident just waiting to happen. read more

The staff here is incredibly rude. I'm a paramedic and I transported a patient here recently. This hospital is a fair distance from the town I service so we almost never come here. After standing at a desk and being ignored for over ten minutes, two techs asked if we needed help and then told us they don't know where we should go because the charge nurse was missing. Then a third tech/nurse, in a loud, rude tone told us "You're in the wrong place. How are we supposed to know you're here? Go to room x!" The original tech apologized for her and said "That doesn't make us look very good." Just because we're also healthcare employees doesn't mean we know the layout of your hospital. I'd never let a family member be treated here if this is considered acceptable behavior by their staff. read more

If you want your loved ones to live don't bring them here. The care provided in the ICU is mortifying. Some of the nurses are SO RUDE and UNSAFE. Norine couldn't even answer a simple question I asked about my grandfather who I just love and care about more than anything. She told me she didn't have time to answer stupid questions (it was about a very important medication he takes daily). I also witnessed her walk in and out of multiple patient rooms without washing her hands or using hand sanitizer once. The nurses don't assess their patients, labs are not checked, proper interventions are not done in a timely manner. My grandfather was having an arrhythmia and no one was aware until I POINTED IT OUT! Go ANYWHERE but here. Don't let your loved ones be neglected and poorly cared for. read more
