If I could give no stars, I would. I know this is a long review but I promise that it is worth reading and hope no one has to go through this for themselves or their children. I brought my 8 yr old son to have his toenail looked at as well as what appeared to be a wart on top of his toe with the problem nail. When we arrived we did not get a friendly greeting but told right away that there was a co-pay. After paying, it took seconds until we were into an exam room. The room was fine until I noticed a 1/2 filled coffee mug left on the counter. We sat in the exam room while we heard staff talking bad about the patient in the other room. How inappropriate but hard not to hear when they were right outside our room. When Dr. Wachtel came he started to talk about the best treatments for toe fungus. He mentioned laser treatment and said he found that it had a better success rate than topicals. But unfortunately, health insurance does not cover but he could do #3 15 minute laser treatments for $600. He asked if I would schedule it today before even looking at my son's toenail. I had mentioned the wart and he proceeded to put gloves on and take a scalpel blade and sliced into the red raised lump in his toe. As he pushed on it, tears rolled down my son's face. His conclusion is that it does appear to be a wart while it pulsed blood, he takes a cautery sitck and stops the bleeding. For of you who don't know what that it is, it looks a match and it is made of silver nitrate and can sting upon contact. At that point, the doctor looks at me and says, I think we should schedule another appointment to take care of his nail. The nail that is discolored and lifted from the nail bed. I ask why and he said he did not want to cause any more pain and that my son was distraught. I said the #1 reason why we were here was because of his nail and I would like you to take care of it. My son agreed and so the doctor acting disgruntled had me sign a consent form for the removal of the toenail. He then leaves the room because he would need extra hands. As we were waiting a nurse comes in and tells us about the aftercare. She showed us a document with list of materials we will need, tape, bandage material, gauze and Triple antibiotic ointment or we could purchase a kit that includes all these things for $50. I told her we will be fine without the kit because I had all of these things at home. I had to sign the document. She placed a drape on a tray with gauze, hemostats, and triple antibiotic ointment and left the room. Then the doctor came in and put on non-sterile gloves and took the syringe of solution and a squeeze bottle and came towards my son's foot. My son then ask the doctor, "how are you going to numb my foot?" And he replies, "the only way." He then squeezes the bottle and says, "this is going to be cold." Injects the needle into his toe while squeezing a bottle of solution. My son is cringing and turning red, tears rolling down his face and crying with no sound. He removes the needle and injects into a different spot. Finally, the 20 seconds of pure pain is over and my son is sitting there trying to catch his breath. The doctor rips off his gloves and walks out the door. I'm there consoling my son and telling him that this nightmare is almost over. I worked as a vet tech and treated my patients better than how he treated my son. I also know that it is a good practice to prep the injection site by cleaning it before administering the needle. I hope that my son does not have any reactions or complications from this horrific event. As we were leaving the doctor comes out and says, "don't forget to schedule your laser treatments." Please read other reviews about the laser he has because apparently it is not one that is approved for treating toenail fungus. read more

Their voice message says to use the website to schedule an appointment, and when you do you receive a confirmation saying that the appointment has been booked. Yet when I arrived to the appointment, the office is closed and you try to contact them via phone to find out why, and no one answers the phone. You explain to the front desk that you had an appointment and it was booked online, but then they come to tell you the doctor is not in the North Andover office that day. He is at the lowell facility. Why would you then have a patient confirmed on the web for the North Andover location if no one is going to be there. Waste of time and false information. He grabbed a boot and told me to write a 5 star review on goggle and he would give me a Dunkin Donut gift card! Say what?! How unprofessional and shady!!! If I could leave no stars I would. Each time I went for an appointment, I was left waiting 30-45 minutes. My feet look terrible and I'm embarrassed to even wear open toed shoes. Beyond unprofessional!!! To be told that the surgery that was done wasn't to look cosmetic was honestly so upsetting. My feet look heinous. Patients mental health matters too!! Do better! Actually pay attention to what your patients say. I am not one to leave reviews but others deserve to know so they don't experience what I did. I was left waiting way past my appointment time just for him to walk in to ask why I was there and THEN after I said why he left the room to go get his coffee. For starters, you don't even know why I'm there? Make me feel uncomfortable and like I shouldn't have been there and then tell me you need to go grab your coffee. No respect for anyone's time. We took our child in for what is likely a Tailor's Bunion and were completely dissatisfied with the appointment. Our child's feet were not even touched, manipulated, she wasn't watched when she walked - nothing. The office was filthy and Dr. Watchel spent over 20 minutes of the appointment time speaking with his accountant over the phone. He was bizarre, insisted on orthotics but again, never even touched her feet. After the appointment, we called to cancel the next one and requested that they provide us with Xray's. No one called back to help with X-rays, but they did call the next day to say that they checked with our insurance about orthotics and they weren't covered - we explicitly stated that we were not interested in orthotics. I asked about X-rays while I had someone live on the phone, someone else called me back and said I had to come down to the office to sign a release. When I asked if they had a digital copy of the release so that I could complete it immediately, they said they don't have an email. It is 2025, that is absolutely ridiculous. They shared that they would have Dr. Watchel call me and I told them not to, I was not interested in having a conversation. Sure enough, he calls and asked me why I was unhappy, I told him we were seeking another opinion and he said his office staff would call me and hung up on me. He is an absolute quack of a doctor and should have his license revoked. I had been told this just the day prior to the appointment - even another physician said I should cancel immediately, but knew better than to cancel an appointment last minute as we would get charged. I bought Dr. Wachtel's Groupon voucher for 3 treatments of 10 fungal toenails. I only went to the first treatment session and stopped going to the follow-up treatments because I found his practice was illegal, unethical and damaging. Why it is illegal: The laser he used for my treatment was K-laser, which is NOT FDA-approved for fungal toenail treatment. Instead, it was ONLY FDA-approved for wound healing, and reduces pain, stiffness, swelling, and spasms. The purchase price of the K-laser device he used was only about $8000, as opposed to $100,000 for real FDA-approved fungal toenail treatment laser. He should be held liable for illegal, false advertising. Why it is unethical: The whole Groupon thing is a bait-and-switch setup. When I went to the treatment, everyone pestered me for selling their anti-fungal ointment ($80 X 3 tubes) for extra money, saying that the laser alone wouldn't be effective in fugal treatment without the ointment. However, according to my research, the real FDA-approved fungal treatment laser alone would suffice to cure the fungal toenails. This also explains the K-laser he used was not FDA approved for fungal toenails. It is absolutely unethical to use this sort of bait-and-switch on patients. Why it is damaging: I just had slight discoloration on one of my toenail before the treatment. However, after the treatment, my condition worsened. The toenail started to deform, which was definitely a new development. This unauthorized use of K-laser worsened my fungal toenail. went to see this Dr because he was in the same facility as another Dr who took care of my husband after a very severe infection in his foot. our appointment was at 9am. He came into office at 5 minutes past nine proceeded to get himself a cup of coffee went into his office. We saw him at 9:20. If we can be on time so can he. In the office the visit was 4 minutes. Never asked how the infection was doing,do you have any question. proceeded to tell us that he takes care of all foot issues. North Andover podiastrist Dr. Wachtel did an outstanding job taking care of my daughters ingrown nails. He was very gentle and very caring and thanks to him, my daughters feet are now pain free. Our pediatrician in Reading recommended his practice and I am glad they did. He is great with kids and is a solid pediatric podiatrist. I had an appointment today 10/5/2020 with Dr. Wachtel and to my disappointment after making the appointment and sitting in his waiting room for over one hour and 4 x-rays later, he then tells me that he doesn't operate on bunions anymore. Not only that but he then tells me that he does not share this information with his staff so that I can make the right decision before I step into the office. So, when making the appointment that person I spoke to didn't know what he does and doesn't do anymore. On top of all of this he is going to charge my insurance company for the office visit and x-rays. That is not a professional doctor. This could have been avoided if the office provided me with the name of another doctor recommended by Dr. Wachtel for bunions. No one looked at my feet. I was asked why I was there. I described my need. Next thing I was asked if I wanted to buy shoes. I did not need shoes. No one had looked at my feet yet and they were trying to sell me shoes. I finally got thier attention to my feet and I was fitted for a small brace, which, it turned out, I did not need. The cost was around $700 and my insurance covered most of it...but I did not need it. So I am out $70 and insurance paid for a useless item. I also had a heel problem. He said my insurance would cover the treatment. A couple of months later, I get a letter from my insurance that they're not covering and I'm responsible for the charges. Over $200! I originally went there to cure a nail fungus with a $300 groupon. Three treatments and 8 months later, my nails look the same but my wallet is lighter by $700 ( $300 groupon, $200 insurance charge, $200 for products to cure the fungus). Like many Dr offices waits are usually attributed to a cascading effect. 1 Patient is late and then there goes the whole day! We took our 5 year old son who had a wart to Dr. Wachtel a total of 5 times and he has been nothing but professional, helpful and extremely informative about what to do. Not only does he care, but when my son had a very rough go of it on 1 of his appointments, he even called to check on him with my wife, just to see how he was doing. The Doctor is treating me for Peripheral Neuropathy. The injection and electro-convulsive therapy has helped to relieve the chronic pain in my feet. I had an ingrown toe nail that was removed and as a result, the pain is gone. I tried the laser treatments to treat nail fungus. I paid a lot of money (insurance does not cover this treatment) and followed instructions to a T buying the topicals as well. Although my nails looked better while being treated each month, it is NOT the permanent solution I bought. So, now I understand why insurance does not cover this procedure. It simply DOES NOT WORK. I have been to many Podiatrists' in my life as I am a diabetic. I can honestly say he is the first Doctor who actually gave a Darn about my feet. Dr. Wachtel is a very open minded Doctor. He uses Medical and homeopathic remedies to help you out. Because of Dr. Wachtel, I am in less pain in my feet today than ever before. I took the laser treatment that kills the fungus in my toe nails. I was told right up front that insurance will never cover this treatment. I didn't have the luxury of having a groupon. I paid full price. The treatment was extremely effective and I no longer suffer from thick toe nails and discomfort. It is one of the best decision's I have made. While I will admit sometimes I have had to wait up to 30 minutes for my appointment, it is usually because of one or two specific reasons. First one is that he cares about his patient very much and will give the patient all the time that they require. Second is because he often times has emergency's he needs to take care of with other patients or call ins. I know because I was one of these people. I woke up one morning in extreme pain. My big toe was killing me. I got a 9:30 AM emergency appointment. I actually had to have my toe nail removed that morning. He performed the operation and it set him back 40 minutes for his patients for the rest of the day. Since I have been going to this doctor for six years now, I have experienced Delayed appointments, on-time appointments, and being taken early appointments. Now when iot comes to my PCP, Endocrinologist, Eye Doctor, and other specialists, I can tell you I have never been to any other doctor that has taken me on time ever, or even early. So why say this is a flaw of Dr. Wachtel's when the entire medical community makes it a practice to NEVER be on time. I have read the comments about "only thinking he wants to do is sell you stuff". Well maybe you feel that way. But I propose another thought. Dr Wachtel does research all the time into new methods of treatment to assist his customers. This includes medical treatments, homeopathic remedies, laser treatments and more. So when he suggests things like Neuroremedy, he is trying to help. But as we all know in this country homeopathic remedies are still not accepted by insurance. So while he is telling you about them, he also stocks them. Since you do not need to go to the pharmacist for the product, like you have to do with a doctor, he can provide them for you. I love Neuroremedy, and it has helped me greatly. Do I have to buy it from him? No. Do I buy it from him? Yes? Why, because I was willing to trust him, the stuff worked, and it is more convenient to buy it from him while I am there. Do I pay more than if I go to the store? No. Does he sell shoes? Yup. I have been to several Podiatrist offices in my diabetic life, and they all sell shoes. If you are looking for a GREAT Podiatrist who really cares about his patients and only wants the best for them then I would recommend Dr Wachtel in a heartbeat to anyone. read more

He is willing to listen and doesn't rush you and is organized and on time. I got Dr. Wachtel's name and number from the Blue cross book and called for an appointment. When I arrived his staff was very efficient and friendly. I explained that I had been chasing three ingrown toe nails on each foot and would like the Dr. to take care of it. Dr. Wachtel came in and reviewed the problem with me. and said that it would be two much on me to do both feet at the same time, that I would need a two week break between feet. He was dead right. It took a week for the swelling to go down. I got around with just one foot compromised but two feet would have put me out of commission. The minor operation the good Dr. performed was bloody but quick and not painful. Both feet are healing well now and I am in my normal shoes. If you go to have ingrown toe nails dealt with, it might be a good idea to bring shoes that are a half size larger and a full size wider than you normal ware. The Dr. has to bandage your toes and getting that into your normal shoe is at a minimum not comfortable. Plus there will be some unavoidable swelling. Also remember the Dr. is a foot Dr. and he looks at you gate when you walk. If he notices a problem he will recommend a pair of Custom Fit Orthotic Inserts. Yes he makes a profit and No the Insurance will not pay for it. And yes its expensive. But if you need them it can prevent or eliminate other problems. We may not like it but medicine is a business and if the business does not make a profit ... its gone!! If you do not want what he is selling - Tell him - He understands NO. read more
