I got my sweet little baby from here about a month ago. I couldn't imagine a life without her! A great organization all around.

This is a wonderful organization that takes good care of an awful lot of animals and does so with a very small budget, a lot of volunteer help and the support of the community. Our lives were permanently changed when we adopted "Taffy" over ten years ago, a young dog that previously suffered an abusive life under another owner (see her photo, she's a canine supermodel!). Our daughter was very young and wanted a dog. I initially objected, but agreed. And then we met her. Love at first sight. Lives changed. The humans definitely got the best end of the deal with this lady. Bravo, Lawrence Humane Society. Five paws. No, ten.

For being a shelter in a relatively small town, LHS does a great job with the resources they've got. I visited the shelter with my boyfriend shortly after Christmas to adopt my rat, Bowie. The boyfriend had come in a week before to put in an application, and he was met by a friendly staff member who showed him to the room where they keep bunnies and "pocket pets." The woman working in the room with the smaller animals (he didn't get her name, unfortunately) was extremely knowledgeable about the pets she was caring for and answered all his questions, giving him info on Bowie's background and how to care for him once he was brought home. Bowie was being treated for an upper respiratory infection and fleas at the time of his adoption, and the shelter offered to keep him there while he finished treatment. Since I'm a vet tech, I decided to take him home and continue treatment on my own, but I was impressed that they were willing to keep him there until he was back to full health. A lot of shelters try to push their animals out the door as fast as possible, regardless of their condition. It's good to know LHS does no such thing. When we went back to get Bowie and take him home, everyone at the front desk was really nice. They brought him up while I signed his paperwork and readily gave me copies of his medical records when I requested them. When I move into a bigger place and am ready to adopt another dog, I will definitely be coming back to LHS. They know what they're doing, and you can tell they really care about the animals in their charge.

If I could go lower than 1 I would. The animals working the front are horrendous. The dogs and cats in the back are sweet though

One reason I picked this vet is because they are one of the few vets in town to administer the ProHeart shot for heart worm prevention. That was very important to me. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They get to know you on a first name basis very easily. They answer the phone and there are no automated answering systems. They are helpful and caring. The vets and vet techs are smart and helpful. They have never tried to oversell me products. I have two dogs so we have a tight budget. There is no pressure and no hard sales. I trust their advice and medical care. The prices are not the most inexpensive but they line up with other vets in town. They seem to be moderate in price compared to others. There are always discounts and rebates on medicine. I use the Care Credit Card so the staff always makes sure I get the best rate. Eudora Animal Hospital is primarily a large animal hospital. There are cattle and horse pens on the side. However, I have seen all sorts of animals there. Cats, dogs of all sizes are treated there. My dogs are happy with their care and I am happy with the staff and treatment. Highly recommended.

The woman who took care of our pup was less than personable, the tone almost condescending through the phone and during the appointment although that wasn't the issue as I understand that some people are just like that whether they are at work or in their personal life. One of the first things this woman blurted out to 2 young kids in their 20's was "I can see some buildup on her teeth so she'll need a cleaning. That runs around $600 for anesthesia" and a list of other things in a teeth cleaning I cannot remember at this time. My dog is only three years old it's not like she's old with a huge amount of tartar buildup. There was no "I recommend this chew" or "try brushing with this toothpaste" and this was on top of the $300 some bill for her shots and other extra things that she was recommending that day. My pup requires care and i understand that will cost money but to hit us with a total of $900 in expenses in the first 5-10 minutes of our appointment left a bad taste in our mouth. I'm reading other reviews that sound like I am not the first person to feel as if they are just trying to get as much money as they can out of their patients. I canceled my next scheduled appointment and will be going elsewhere from now on.

My mom was visiting from out of town and I told her we had to go to Lucky Dog. We played the battle-for-a-parking-place game and ended up at LD. The staff was not very welcoming or friendly. No one greeted us, no one engaged us in conversation. When we asked them questions, we got simple answers with no elaboration or suggestions for products. They acted like we were bothering them by being in the store. They have a big selection of dog food which takes up most of the shelf space. There are leashes, clothes and collars... all overpriced, I might add. They have limited products but it is a smallish store, after all. They seemed to carry high end food that you couldn't get at other stores. I get they serve a niche clientele. They don't aim for ordinary dog owner customers. They aim for well-heeled fancy pants dog owners. I get it but they still could have been friendly either way. When we left, no one said, "Thanks for coming!" Nope. Nothing. This is an expensive store. Even their sale items were pricey. It takes a great deal of $ to pay the rent on a store downtown. They do not deal in quantity. I have no issues with the cost of their items. They do offer higher end food, for example. I do mind paying that money and getting NO customer service or kind words. Customers want to be appreciated and this didn't happen here for us. A few months ago I had called to get a reservation for a Santa picture with my Annie. They said they were all booked up and couldn't take her picture. It is not like taking one more picture would have taken an hour. It would have been a few minutes tops. They still were not going to budge. Huge food selection, homemade treats but there is little else they offer. Parking is difficult downtown and I won't play the parking game again for a business that obviously did not appreciate my patronage. Woof.
