10+ years of good service but today not happy I was running late even called to say running late step in about 12 minutes late and still they would not see my pet. My first red flag should've been the fact that they had open availability when no other vet in town did but I was rushing to get my dog updated on her shots and a badly needed nail trim. The woman who took care of our pup was less than personable, the tone almost condescending through the phone and during the appointment although that wasn't the issue as I understand that some people are just like that whether they are at work or in their personal life. One of the first things this woman blurted out to 2 young kids in their 20's was "I can see some buildup on her teeth so she'll need a cleaning. That runs around $600 for anesthesia" and a list of other things in a teeth cleaning I cannot remember at this time. My dog is only three years old it's not like she's old with a huge amount of tartar buildup. There was no "I recommend this chew" or "try brushing with this toothpaste" and this was on top of the $300 some bill for her shots and other extra things that she was recommending that day. My pup requires care and i understand that will cost money but to hit us with a total of $900 in expenses in the first 5-10 minutes of our appointment left a bad taste in our mouth. I'm reading other reviews that sound like I am not the first person to feel as if they are just trying to get as much money as they can out of their patients. I canceled my next scheduled appointment and will be going elsewhere from now on. read more

The fist time I came into the clinic a vet tried to get me to pay 2 or 3,000 dollars for unnecessary services and I burst out into tears because I thought I had to take my dog back to the humane society. I couldn't afford it. I hope they aren't taking advantage of anyone like elderly or cognitively disabled. I asked them to stop trying to convince me I need unnecessary services. I can only afford the minimum as I'm on disability. I live on $800 a month. So many unnecessary solicitation emails Ive received. I've called each time and was told the services are unnecessary. I keep getting emails after I've called and emailed pleading with them to stop. I have a cognitive disability and am legally a vulnerable adult. But luckily for me I'm fairly aware but only because I've been taken advantage of multiple times. I wonder how much they are taking advantage of vulnerable people less aware than I? I understand times are hard but their tactics are unethical. read more

I would actually rate this place 3.5 stars, if I had the chance. I have been taking my pets (cat and dog) to LVH for about 2 years. I started seeing Dr. Kraft, the original owner and really liked him a lot. He helped with my dog's anxiety and other issues she had. Unfortunately, he retired and sold the practice to Dr. Anna. Dr. Anna is incredibly nice and knowledgeable. But, her front desk staff isn't the greatest. Erika has a bit of an attitude and has on occasion, given me incorrect information. Her vet tech, Brent is kind of judgy if you don't opt into whatever they are trying to push on you. I get it, it comes from a place of caring about your animal, but I still don't appreciate the lecture that comes after I decline something very expensive or that I don't find necessary. An example would be they are always trying to push flea and tick medicine for my indoor cat, because since the dog goes outside, she can bring in fleas even though the dog is on flea and tick meds year round. I don't think I've ever gotten out of this place for under $100. They give excellent care, but it comes with very hefty price tag. read more

We started going here shortly after moving to Lawrence. It turned out our kitty had stomatitis and needed her teeth removed. Dr. Kraft was amazing and offered us a discount (it was January and they usually offer dental discounts in February, so he was offering to extend the discount to us early). We kept going after that because we trusted him. Our other kitty ended up seeing Dr. Anna, who we were rather lukewarm about, though I don't think she is bad at all. Once Dr. Kraft retired, we didn't have a lot of reasons to stay, but still made our yearly checkup appointment there. They seem on the high end of the price range to start with and are pushy on selling their other products and services. When they decided my cat was overweight (the same he had weighed the year before when they said he was in a normal range), they tried to sell me their diet cat food. They are also very big on pushing dental cleanings, which I suppose are fine, but seem a bit unnecessary. I might have considered it had they not drawn up a pretend bill with costs for removing teeth - as someone who has a cat who legitimately needed tooth extraction, I was baffled why they thought my healthy cat would need it (we checked with the new vet, his teeth are fine). It made me worry that they might do unnecessary procedures just to get more money out of me. The last straw was their unwillingness to give us our cats records. We were going on vacation and were leaving them with someone for part of the time, but they needed to be boarded for a couple of nights. Since our cat-sitter lived in another town, it made sense to board them in that town, but of course that vet needed the cat's records. It took probably 5 times back and forth from both us and the other vet to get the records, and even then, they would only send a summary to my husband rather than sending the full records to the other vet. Not liking how disorganized they were, we went to another vet for their checkups this year. Not surprisingly, when the new vet called to get the cat's records, they claimed that they didn't have any for our cats. read more

I'm a huge fan of LVH! I've been taking my dogs here almost three years and only have great things to say about the staff and our experiences there. I agree that services are not cheap per se, but vet care isn't cheap in general (even with pet insurance in my experience). You get what you pay for at LVH which a very knowledgeable, caring team that is willing to go above and beyond for you and your pets. I can't recommend them enough! From an emergency that required immediate attention and stitches to our regular visits, I've always impressed with the level of service from the staff. read more

We called Lawrence Veterinary Hospital on Clinton Parkway Court when our sweet French Bulldog began acting odd. Her ear appeared to be bothering her and she was not walking normal; after calling all around town we finally made an appointment for the following morning with the Lawrence Veterinary Hospital -- we were so relieved to have someone take her in so quickly. It was our first appointment with this vet, and unfortunately we ended up at the Clinton Parkway Animal Hospital, which is on Clinton Parkway. Being new to the area, I was not aware that there was more than 1 Animal Hospital on a road named Clinton Parkway, or that Clinton Parkway Court was a totally different road! After learning of our mistake at the first hospital, we headed straight to the Lawrence Vet Hospital and arrived 7 minutes late. Upon arrival we were informed that our appointment was scheduled 10 minutes ago and an emergency client had arrived, therefore they would not be able to see our pup for another 2 days. I have never been more disappointed in a vet and would not recommend this place to anyone. On the bright side we did discover an amazing vet clinic in the Lawrence area as a result of this awful customer service; feel free to reach out if you need a recommendation! read more

I just moved here and needed a vet. Several people recommended this place. I loved my vet in Illinois, so I wasn't expecting any place to live up to that standard. Lawrence Veterinary Hospital did. They diagnosed my older dog with early stage kidney failure, and were so kind as we discussed how to know when it is time to let him go. Through their tests, we know that he is not as far along as previously thought, and their treatment (special food) has done wonders for my little man. I have a larger dog and a cat, both of whom the staff treated wonderfully. Previous reviewers clearly had bad experiences, but I do not think that is typical. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The facility is clean, bright, and welcoming. read more

I have been going here for years, and still continue to, even though I no longer live in Lawrence. It's worth the 45 minutes of howling down K-10 to take my aging Siamese to Dr. Kraft. He is extremely caring, and well read on all manner of cat issues. He has frequently called to follow up, and we have had 30 minute conversations. He is very thorough and conscientious of your pet's health, what is best for them, and your budget. All of the staff is wonderful at LVH. I cannot recommend more highly. read more

I will say they seemed like they really wanted to give your pet the best care. The facility was clean and the staff was very friendly. BUT. It came at a hefty price. The longer I was there, the more I began to feel as though their ultimate goal (besides helping animals) was trying to scare as much money out of me as possible. The visit ended with me being told my dog needed surgery as soon as physically possible along with a lecture that included at least $300 worth of medications. So I left, paying $260 to feel anxious, overwhelmed and helpless but only after a daunting speech given by the vet about how I should just change my whole life and a general feeling they judged me.The next day I received the procedure estimate, minimum $900 for a pretty minor surgery. They originally said around ($700-$800) I needed a second opinion so I went to the Eudora Animal Hospital. They acted like it wasn't a big deal, told me the procedure was common and simple, and after an evaluation would charge me less than they said over the phone, $460 (HALF THE PRICE) they didn't charge for the evaluation visit. So my opinion would be, if you're looking for your pet to be treated with the best equipment, highest tech, the most medicine and you'll pay anything to treat your pooch. Definitely give Lawrence Veterinary Hospital a try. If you want super affordable and homey but a little more basic. I'd recommend Eudora Animal Hospital. read more

I was so impressed with the way they treated my cat. When I arrived they placed her in a dark room with a pheromone diffuser that helped calm her down before her exam. Dr. Kraft worked with me and my cats over 20 years ago. One was extremely difficult to work with, and yet he did so kindly and thoughtfully, made accommodations for him, and was their veteran until both passed away a few years ago. I recently returned with two kittens, and it's good to know we're in such good hands. The entire staff has always been professional and personable over the years. Always an excellent experience taking my cats to LVH. Every single person working there is helpful and accommodating - I've always gotten a day-of appointment when my kitties needed. The administrative workers and the vet techs are the best I've come across. I continue coming back, though, for Dr. Anna - she is friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely competent. I've been bringing my dog here since he was a puppy and he's now about a year and a half. I always saw Anna Johnson, DVM and was very pleased. However, the last time I saw her my dog had an ear infection and acted as most animals do when they are hurting and don't want to be touched, which is unpleasantly. However, I set up an appointment to have my dog neutered and considering we'd never had any other issues I figured this would be fine. Now, a little background on my dog. He's a breed that tends to be on dangerous breeds list and because of this I've done everything possible to make sure he doesn't earn that reputation. I've done early socialization, I've taken him to behavior specialists, and I work with a trainer that was recommended to me by a behavior specialist. Both the behavior specialist and the trainer to not think my dog is dangerous. However, I arrived to drop off my dog for his appointment and I'm immediately brought to wait in a room by a vet tech who is clearly terrified of my dog. Then the other vet, who I had never seen before, James Kraft DVM, walks in and as my dog walks up to sniff him he immediately turns around and leaves the room saying, "I'm not comfortable with this." He comes back in with a muzzle and after I've put it on my dog he tells me that my dog's normal vet had told him my dog was "unpredictable about when he's going to bite." My dog has never bitten anyone. He then proceeds to attempt to impress upon me the seriousness of a dog biting someone and tells me my dog acts this way because of his breed. However, he was not respectful and polite about any of this he spent 15 minutes or so berating me and speaking over me when I try to tell him that I've already seen behavior specialists after he tells me I need to see this specific one. He talks over me telling me that isn't good enough and neither is the trainer we work with, despite not letting me tell him the names of the people we had, and are seeing. After a straight 15 minutes or so of berating and acting aggressively towards me he attempts to touch my dog twice and no, at that point my dog was not friendly. He tells me we need to leave because he doesn't want to put his staff in danger and that would have been fine if he left it at that. I ask for the info of the behavior specialist and he leaves the room for several minutes then comes back in to tell me my info is at the front counter and to retrieve the muzzle. I go to the front counter to pick up my info and pick it up while all the employees avoid making eye contact with me and walk out the door. All the while, I hear Kraft, DVM ranting loudly in the background about how he's not going to put his staff in danger with that dog. Long story short, a few of the workers here have no idea how to behave around large dogs and blame it on the dog. Especially if you have a breed with a bad reputation. Being worried about my dog and the safety of your staff and other people is one thing, but being disrespectful and refusing to use the brain that, one assumes, had to have gotten you through veterinary school is another. If you have to see anyone make sure it isn't James Kraft, DVM because he wont listen to you and will talk down to you and express shock if your dog doesn't put up with someone acting that aggressively towards you. read more

The veterinarians in this clinic are knowledgeable, but ultimately care only about the money they are making on your pets. Sure, they can do a physical exam and clean your pet's teeth - but I would not trust them with much else. Boarding facilities are acceptable and affordable, but I am sure one could find better. The state of the facility does not correspond with the vet's fee. At least one of the techs is very rude, and if she treats humans this way, I do not trust her with animals. Dr. Moser mislead me upon a procedure that had not yet been performed. Dr. Kraft failed come up with a treatment plan as I watched my cat waste away. This clinic also made my very sweet cat be afraid of going to the vet. If you can avoid it, stay away. read more

I had this vet for my cat until she died Then got a dog and they have been wonderful in helping me even to get her in as I am disabled. They come right out to the car an take her in for me. They also have been very good at diagnosing what is wrong with my dog. I wouldn't change to another vet for anything!!!!!!!! read more
