I've been a patient of Dr. Ruck's for over a year now and have been meaning to write this review for quite some time. I normally have extremely tight shoulders and neck muscles, which only got worse since attending dental school. I originally came in for an acute neck/shoulder pain that left me immobilized about a year ago. Even though I tried to make a last minute appointment, he tried to squeeze me into his schedule as soon as possible, which happened to be within 15mins of my call. He was able to effectively identify the problem and provide treatment that allowed for me to be mobile and regain range of motion again. He also gave me at home exercises to do at home on my own and even checked up to see how I was doing the day after my appointment, which showed how much he geninuely cares. Ever since then, I've dropped in a couple times when I've had neck or shoulder flareups, and I really appreciate how he tries to treat the source of the problem and doesn't try to sell me. I've been to other chiropractors in the past, and I can confidently say that he is very knowledgable and skilled with what he does. I would highly recommend him to anyone! read more

Simply put, I owe my first Ultra marathon to Dr. Ruck. I decided to participate in a timed event with only two months to train. I suffered the consequences from too much too soon... I was coming apart at the seams when I finally made it to his office. Dr. Ruck's Chiropractic & A.R.T expertise cleared up my Piriformis, ITB and minor Achilles tendonitis issues. I left his office feeling confident and hopeful after the first visit. I scheduled to see him once a week for the remaining 4 weeks of training. I was able to run 42 miles with minor discomfort and was so happy during event that I am looking forward to my second Ultra distance race! I followed up after my awesome Ultra finish and was given exercises to strengthen my weak areas now that I'm resting before I start training for the next marathon in Texas. Dr. Ruck is genuinely wonderful: he is always professional, listens very carefully, treats thoughtfully, and most important, is all about getting you actively back on your feet in the best way possible rather than padding his bottom line by keeping you on the hook for endless further treatments. He's helped my family members and me recover from elbow tendinitis, lower back and painful shoulder issues, runner's knee, and general "office worker" weakness issues. He is a chiropractor, of course, but he has a deep background in physical fitness and sports physical therapy as well, so his patients profit from a multi-faced approach. Let me start by saying I cannot possibly overstate how impressed I am by Dr. Ruck. I have seen several chiropractors over the last few years, initially for a whiplash injury, then subsequently to try to address the chronic back/neck/shoulder pain I had already been experiencing due to poor posture in the workplace. Each chiropractor took more or less the same approach: adjustment, massage, maybe a little e-stim, all to varying, yet ultimately short-lived relief. It was with this fear that I may only achieve temporarily relief, having to return often and indefinitely, that I went to Dr. Ruck. Simply put, I couldn't have been more wrong. After my very first visit, I experienced more relief than I had after multiple visits to other chiropractors. Here's why: 1.) His interest and knowledge regarding physiology and his desire to make sure I understood why things feel the way they do and how to treat them is exemplary. 2.) His approach is not one-size-fits-all. 3.) Unlike a typical chiropractor, he has no desire to see me multiple times a week, nor indefinitely. He pinpointed the problems, and is determined to address them as quickly as possible. 4.) The techniques that he taught me actually WORK! He gave me a list of quick, easy exercises that I can do at my desk to strengthen problem areas and alleviate tightness and pain. This is by far the most impressive aspect of his unique approach. Which brings me to my final point: you have to be willing to do what Dr. Ruck tells you. You have to be diligent and perform the techniques he sends you home with. I can attest that they offer as much potent, long lasting relief by themselves as a session with him would. A nice little bonus is Dr. Ruck's sports medicine background, which in my opinion, makes him even better suited to assess and treat injury. If only Dr. Ruck could be cloned so there'd be an office in NYC too! This review is WAY overdue, as I saw him back when I lived in Tarrytown, but I wanted to say that he should be your DC if you live in the area - and not just for back pain! He helped me not only heal up from a bad knee injury, he also helped me with some serious walking/balance issues following a near fatal reaction to an antibiotic. I am so grateful for the care Dr. Ruck provides. I've always suffered from terrible and frequent tension headaches and migraines, which only got worse when I went back to school. I saw a chiropractor once before so I was a little nervous about going again - afraid I'd be told again the only way for relief was with three-times a week adjustments over several months. I was able to get an appointment right away and Dr. Ruck was incredibly thorough in the first appointment - explaining the cause of my headaches, showing me textbook diagrams and walking me through what he thought would help. I met Dr. Ruck 7 years ago when I was suffering from chronic neck pain after a severe injury one year earlier. I had been to a Neurologist, Pain Managment doctor, spinal surgeon, orthopedist, and accupuncturist as well as another chiropractor and two further physical therapists. I had MRIs, xrays, tried therapies, took pill and received cortisone shots. I was contemplating surgery when I read that the success of these treatments was a mere 33%! A friend recommended Dr. Ruck and after the first visit I felt immediately better -- not because my pain went away, it didn't. But Dr. Ruck was the first person I had seen who showed any kind of understanding of what I was feeling and how hopeless I had become. Over the course of the next several months he worked with me patiently and compassionately, mostly through teaching me exercise and calming my fears. Eventually the pain became less and less so that it was tolerable, then manageable and then negligible. My neck no longer bothers me and I returned to levels of activity I had been told I would never again achieve; running, playing soccer, snowboarding, body-surfing -- all those things I thought I had lost I was able to regain. I continue to see Dr. Ruck on occasion, once every couple of years, or a few times a year when I sustain a new injury (all those activities at my age...49 y.o.) and following his instructions and heeding his calming words I always get the best possible results with the least invasive procedures. Simple manipulation and exercise are a small price to pay as opposed to narcotics and surgeries. When I pull, strain or otherwise injure something -- my first stop is Dr. Ruck. He is a healer in the truest sense, with the goal of getting you back to where you were (or better!) with patience, work and simple,real-world wisdom. No hocus pocus, no wacky new-age junk science, just simple mechanical "treat the whole patient" physical approach that works if you are willing. Dr Ruck is a great chiropractor for sports injuries. I just had a severe shoulder injury and he got me out of pain in five visits. His goal is to get you active as soon as possible, not to have you keep coming in for endless visits. I'm a committed cyclist, runner and walker, and he has helped to keep me going - at age 71.
