The dining room had a table long enough to seat all eleven of us. We were there as a family reunion vacation. My daughter and her husband and two boys and my son and his wife and three girls. There was a bedroom for each of the adult couples and a great bunk bed room for all the children. We requested a couple of kayaks and a canoe. They were there waiting for us when we arrived. A leisurely canoe ride into the Town of Greenville to get ice cream was an every day event. The view of the lake was tremendous. A fire pit allowed a campfire and smores every night. The house was very clean and well kept. There were brochures about the area waiting for us when we arrived. Lots of games in the house was fun as well. Dennis, the property manager, was always available if we had questions both before we arrived and during our stay . We took advantage of Moose Watching trips, fishing trips and lots of hiking opportunities. We just had a great time and I highly recommend this property.

The cottage was immaculate and was very comfortable. The owners were wonderful as well as other guests we met. Joe, one of the owners showed me the pet walking area and it was very clean and well kept. Each cottage has either a gas or charcoal grill to use. Depending on which cottage you stay in, you have either propane or a wood pellet stove for heat if needed. If you kayak or canoe, access to Moosehead Lake is just feet from your cottage. Both Misty and Joe made our dog Hank feel loved. FYI The cottage was well equipped with dishes, mugs, utensils, and kitchen gear.

They do not wash the comforters after guests leave, and I don't believe they do any cleaning to the cabins after guests leave. The guests are required to clean the cabin upon departure, or get charged $250 for cleaning services. Your paying between $2000 to $5000 for a week to stay here. The cabin I was in had cobwebs. The dishes were not cleaned, forks and spoons still had food on them. An animal was under my bed 2 nights in a row. Now my family was willing to over look these things because the lake is phenomenal, but Tomhegan blacklisted my Uncle for complaining of bed bugs in the Lodge. My family can still rent from them but we won't be. If a company is going to charge you thousands to stay for the week, you'd expect them to take a bed bug infestation seriously.

So when Boyfriend suggested venturing to Maine for a vacation getaway, I prepared for the worst. Luckily, I ended up with the best in Tomhegan. Situated on the pristine and pine-lined shore of Moosehead Lake and a quick jaunt from the Canadian border, Tomhegan is definitely remote. No phone, no television, no internet--and it's wonderful. This is the perfect spot for an escape with someone special or an annual excursion with your extended family. We stayed three nights in Diana, which was the original cabin at Tomhegan dating back to the early 1900s. I was incredibly impressed with the comfort and cozy style of our abode! Two picnic tables, colorful Adirondack chairs, and a two-tiered deck with a covered porch welcomed us when we arrived. If there's such a thing as backwoods cabin chic, the inside of Diana is it. True log structure, trophy game and vintage snow gear decorating the walls, an iron wood burning stove, and even a claw foot tub made it feed like home. Additionally, the fully-furnished kitchen made cooking each night a breeze. About 30 yards from our doorstep and nestled on the shoreline was our own private fire pit, stocked with wood and ready for massive s'more production. While Diana was perfect for the two of us, it could comfortably sleep up to eight. All for around $150 a night in mid-June! A steal, if you ask me. The grounds at Tomhegan are equally stunning. Like, if eight-year-old me was going to draw a picture of nature from her imagination, Tomhegan is what you'd get. Baby animals frolicking at your feet, a crystal-clear lake glistening in the sunshine during the day, and the entire Milky Way at your fingertips in the evening. Simply gorgeous. A few additional tips for the nature-bound: -The nearest grocery is about 55 minutes south in the small town of Greenville, Maine. While there's a small camp store on-site, you'll want to stock up here before heading north. -Leave your Mini Cooper at home, To access Tomhegan, first drive down a narrow country road. Then turn onto a gravel road. Then turn onto a dirt road. Then drive through the forest and over a one-lane wooden bridge while watching out the window for moose. Don't turn around, you're almost there. -Fishermen, rejoice. Boyfriend was catching brook trout like buttah from a nearby inlet as well as from the shoreline by our fire pit. -Check out Tomhegan's Facebook page for additional photos that aren't posted on the website. The Owner was Dog Unfriendly and Rude…read more My husband and I were really looking forward to this trip which included our 2 dogs. We were to pay 2 pet fees for them. My dogs are well mannered and loved by people when they meet them. We've travelled extensively with them to high-end hotels and very casual places like this one. However, The Owner jumped away from my dogs when they approached her to say, 'hi'. I was puzzled to see that in a country setting that's supposedly dog friendly. She clearly doesnt like other peoples dogs. She couldnt even look at them. She has a lap dog. 3 times we were given the wrong pass code to the door. It was raining and I had to walk to and from to the office while getting soaked. Our dogs were locked inside the cabin that was unlocked when we got there. When they saw their mommy struggling to get in the door they started to get agitated and jumped on the sliding glass door frantically. Owner Amy got mad and said that was 'unacceptable.' She couldnt have that. 'Not gonna happen.' She then walked away for a 4th try at getting the correct passcode while muttering on. She was clearly in a huff and mad. That was strange. What were the dog fees for? And they had our credit card on file. She never apologized for the problem that she caused by having us locked out. We were wet and confused at her behavior. She never gave me a chance to respond. And our dogs were frightened. Not a good way to start a getaway. I never saw Amy, or her husband Steve for the next 3 days. Ever. No checking on us. Nothing. It was like they were 'ghosts'. You knew they were there but never saw them. I discovered a 2" thick folder later. There was a Demand List for the visitors. It was printed with black and blue letters on a dark blue background. Almost unreadable. Dogs could not be left in the room unattended ever'. Also they were not allowed on their furniture. My dogs have been on nicer furniture in nicer places without any problems. This is a country cabin. The furniture is not new. The rugs are old and faded. The bedspreads are outdated and mixed matched. Thats the first time we ever had to do that, even in high-end hotels with much nicer furnishings. My dogs are quiet and well behaved. But that was the rules. So we abided reluctantly. Also, we received no tour of the grounds or mention of the water sport toys laying about. It was a real unwelcoming vibe. It was like a dark 'Gray' cloud of gloom was hovering like a 'Ghost' overhead. We would have left the day we arrived but it was raining, late, and we were tired. It was a 7 hour drive to an isolated area. They lucked out. We did not. P.S. My husband and I run several vacation rentals in varied places and enjoy serving happy travelers.

Monica greeted us when we arrived and made us feel right at home! Our cabin was spotlessly clean (thank you, Monica!); the shower water pressure was strong and great; we had seemingly endless hot water for showers, dishes, etc.; the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking; and the bed was comfortable. The surrounding guests were incredibly quiet, so it was an idyllic little place to be. We loved the paddle boards and kayaks and used them multiple times a day. The river is what paddle board dreams are made of bc the water is so calm. For us, the availability to use these water toys added serious value to our stay and made the price of the stay a great value. We also loved paddling just across the river to Maynard's for coffee and breakfast in the morning. That was an unexpected treat to have that cozy, very affordable restaurant right across from us! Additionally, this location is the perfect access point for the ferry to Mt. Kineo, which is a must-do while you're here! The ferry leaves from Rockwood, which is three miles down the road. Another must-do is Rockwood Bar and Grille! The buffalo chicken pizza with blue cheese base was the best pizza my husband and I have ever had! We stayed in cabin three, and when we initially pulled up I was a bit dismayed because there is a not-so-aesthetically appealing little storage hut right in front of cabin three, which is a direct obstruction to the river view. However, I quickly got over that bc everything else about this place was so great for us! We highly recommend this place as an affordable home base for exploring this part of Maine! It is a beautiful, serene, quiet and peaceful place. We stay at Spencer cabin and appreciate that there is no t.v. but that there is a stove, sink, refrigerator, shower and beds! There is a kitchen table, picnic table, charcoal grill and fire pit. Scott is a gregarious, down to earth owner who is an expert on this area and a wealth of information as a wilderness and fishing guide. Scott and his wife work hard making updates and repairs ( never ending) while still keeping the rustic and simple origins of these cabins intact. We hope this place continues to flourish and we can continue to look forward to our yearly trips on the lake.

His immediate words, "be careful of the broken glass on the floor". As we entered and navigated past the broken glass and debris. We entered into the kitchen first in absolute shock at what we saw and smelled. Water stained ceilings drooping. Mold, animal smell, dishes with old caked on food. A frig with a yellow brownish mold or stains all over the front. Insides the frig broken off- falling pieces of the inside shell with exposed insulation. The flooring not vacuumed from the obvious debris. I am still using a heating pad on my back from tripping on a partially lifted metal carpet stripping. As well, just staying overnight while trying to secure other accommodations. I came down with an infected finger. The bathroom shower is a free standing, wobbly what appears to be black mold at the bottom. It appeared filthy. My partner has been an outdoor enthusiast-hunter-fisherman over 60 yrs. Staying in fishing lodges all over. Never he said did he ever experience such a disgusting place. He did try to discuss our feelings with the owner-asked for a refund. We did not get one. Unfortunately their was more unexpected expenses in securing another place to stay. While our next stay was fantastic. It was not directly on the lake as we wished for making our Moosehead Lake vacation not what we expected. Ive thought much about our experience at Wilson's...should I share, should we share. As posting a negative review doesn't make us happy. My decision was based on the owner not being accountable. It is an unhealthy mess..and disappointing for us. We are very fair people and share the view of the lake spectacular. From front door of the cabin just a few feet to the shore. The state of the inside of the cabin is a pitiful mess. We, as customers were not looking for a 5 star hotel. We were looking forward to your advertised experience. Which its not and is time to renovate. I cannot attest to the other cabins state of being. This town has only 2 people that live here year round, but the one building that houses all operations for a town with a thousand residents during the summer gets the job done. You see during the winter months and hunting season this place gets huge amounts of traffic. There are several nice cabins across the street for travelers who want to stay awhile. Including when the weather chills down to subzero temperatures there are still hundreds of travelers stopping for a fill of food and warm remedies to winters chill. It was raining the day we stopped but we had good burgers and Ham and Cheese sandwiches. Their gift shop will make you laugh and shine you in the antics that shine on great experiences have been held here year after year. The store really has all the necessities if you should accidentally capsize your boat on Roach Pond across the street. But the main income is the winter months as Snowmobilers are the main income. Located 17 miles north of Greenville ME 04441 near the edge of the plantations that dot the landscape the paved road ends and the signs stop too. If your new to this area and find yourself entering the dirt paths once the pavement ends, turn around and head for the general store. You need quality directions and determination to how far you want to travel with out a guide to get you where you need to reach. Without guidance in this neck of the woods you will get lost and we may never hear from your again! I am determined to return next year in 2016, see you there !!

No one would move out of the way, all blocking the counter. She glared at me when I put a few items on the counter, The entire transaction she didn't utter a word to me.
