This is our 6th year visiting Wilsons on Moosehead and we still love everything about it. We love the proximity to the lake for swimming, boating, kayaking, bird and loon watching, catching the sunrises and sunsets and star gazing at night. It is a beautiful, serene, quiet and peaceful place. We stay at Spencer cabin and appreciate that there is no t.v. but that there is a stove, sink, refrigerator, shower and beds! There is a kitchen table, picnic table, charcoal grill and fire pit. Scott is a gregarious, down to earth owner who is an expert on this area and a wealth of information as a wilderness and fishing guide. Scott and his wife work hard making updates and repairs ( never ending) while still keeping the rustic and simple origins of these cabins intact. We hope this place continues to flourish and we can continue to look forward to our yearly trips on the lake. read more

Cabin is in a deplorable condition. Extremely poor condition. Absolutely unacceptable, an unhealthy environment. My boyfriend opened the door for me to enter the screened in porch. His immediate words, "be careful of the broken glass on the floor". As we entered and navigated past the broken glass and debris. We entered into the kitchen first in absolute shock at what we saw and smelled. Water stained ceilings drooping. Mold, animal smell, dishes with old caked on food. A frig with a yellow brownish mold or stains all over the front. Insides the frig broken off- falling pieces of the inside shell with exposed insulation. The flooring not vacuumed from the obvious debris. I am still using a heating pad on my back from tripping on a partially lifted metal carpet stripping. As well, just staying overnight while trying to secure other accommodations. I came down with an infected finger. The bathroom shower is a free standing, wobbly what appears to be black mold at the bottom. It appeared filthy. My partner has been an outdoor enthusiast-hunter-fisherman over 60 yrs. Staying in fishing lodges all over. Never he said did he ever experience such a disgusting place. He did try to discuss our feelings with the owner-asked for a refund. We did not get one. Unfortunately their was more unexpected expenses in securing another place to stay. While our next stay was fantastic. It was not directly on the lake as we wished for making our Moosehead Lake vacation not what we expected. Ive thought much about our experience at Wilson's...should I share, should we share. As posting a negative review doesn't make us happy. My decision was based on the owner not being accountable. It is an unhealthy mess..and disappointing for us. We are very fair people and share the view of the lake spectacular. From front door of the cabin just a few feet to the shore. The state of the inside of the cabin is a pitiful mess. We, as customers were not looking for a 5 star hotel. We were looking forward to your advertised experience. Which its not and is time to renovate. I cannot attest to the other cabins state of being. Just the one we checked into and left the very next day. read more

My boyfrined our friends and children we very excited to rent a boat from Wilson's for a great weekend day. The boat that was rented to us was a 1972 boat in rough condition, something that should not be rented out. We took the boat anyway, it was a speedboat but it didn't go fast and the spedometer gauge was broken among a list of many other things on the boat. We decided to use the boat anyway, hoping maybe it just needed to warm up but it didn't. We didn't want to waste the day and return the boat as they didn't have any others to offer. We figured we could make the best of it even though it didn't go fast, no tubing or skiing though. We called the owners half way through the day to explain the problems we were having and they said they'd look at it when we returned it at 5:00pm. We returned the boat in the EXACT condition we rented it in. We asked for $ off due to it not working properly when they told us it was a speed boat. They took the boat out for a test drive and noticed the same problem we explained to them. They proceeded to take the boat out of the water and said we screwed it up. We had children on the boat and are mature adults so there was no chance we were going to mess up a rented boat. They told us they were going to have their mechanic look at it and they would get back in touch with us. They explained they are going to charge us for the damages to the boat that were already there before we even rented it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS TO ANYONE. We truly feel they are trying to get money out of us to replace their 1972 boat and are unjustly trying to charge us. There are many other boat rental places around Moosehead lake that are much more ethical and business savy than this business. read more

My friend and I rented a cabin for a 4day, 3 night stay. Cost was $100.00 a night. Never been there before but the website made it look clean and decent. When we arrived noticed there was a lot of junk cars, trucks, and other equipment most of it covered with tall grass. The road was a muddy mess and the place to check in was cluttered with crap. Should have know then not to stay but was told when called to reserve that no monies would be refund and we would have to stay for the three nights. On to our cabin... there was no parking for our vehicle and had to unload the truck from road and carry everything to the cabin. Same muddy road... Cabin door had no lock, just a latch. If you left for the day there was no way to protect you stuff. The cabin was dirty and had a horrible smell. Maybe someone used a whole can of Lysol spray. The smell was extremely strong and making one of us sick. The hide a bed was scary looking and we refused to sit there. This the kitchen table was the only option and that was broken. The side of the table would not stay up and wobbled. Chairs also wobbled. Not safe for children that's for sure!! Only place to put food items was on what was left of the table or kitchen counter. Refrigerator had left over food from previous guests. The bed room was very dark and there were several Bobbie pins on the floor leading to believe the room was never cleaned before our arrival. Wouldn't put suitcases on floor. After checking the bed for bedbugs (couldn't find any thank goodness) I could see something under the bed. There were bags with used sheets and blankets tossed under it. The extra blankets were filthy. We decided to stay the night because it was getting late and darkness was upon us. It was a 4 hour drive to get there and we had put our boat in the water already. (The boat launch is another ugly story!). It poured rain after dark and all throughout the night. Didn't sleep at all that night and upon morning light we packed everything up and got the hell out of there. Therefore loosing all $300 + more for the three nights and ruining our weekend. DO NOT STAY at this place. The sewage pipes were on top of the ground and the place smelled like sewage. Dirty and unsafe for children and adults. I could go on about other things but you get the idea about this dump. read more

PLEASE READ this review before booking. Please also know that we tried to work with the owners and they refused to give a partial refund for our stay even with all of the issues we had. We really did want to avoid leaving negative reviews, contacting the Chamber of Commerce and health department but they expressed zero concern or consideration even though one of our issues was very dangerous, especially with children in the cabin. Our family rented the 4 bedroom cabin for 4 day in August of 2020. To start the lake location is actually very nice, they have a great view from the dock. Scott and Allison were both friendly throughout our stay. That is the positive. You drive in and there are a number of falling down sheds and structures but we can look past that, however, our cabin was another issue. The front door knob was broken and didn't function properly, the front door also didn't fit properly so it wouldn't open all the way. MICE MICE MICE...you can expect to meet up with little critters when staying in a cabin but these mice were clearly taking over and had become almost domestic. They had no problem crawling all over your food you had just prepared while you were standing right there. We threw a number of meals during our stay due to these little rodents. The biggest issue I saved for last...there were two electrical outlets in the upstairs bedroom that were broken and open exposed metal was showing. This was a big hazard and had one of our children touched this it could have caused serious harm. I contacted the owners once we left requesting a partial credit for our stay since it was definitely false advertising and they felt no desire to try and rectify the situation. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially if you have children. Safety does not appear to be a concern. We have been staying in the Moosehead area for years and had wonderful stays in all the other locations. read more

I'm doing two reviews, and this one is for the fish guiding. Scott is the best fly fishing guide we have found from coast to coast, and my 81 year old father is the best judge of this. I caught a 23 inch male salmon, Dad caught an 18 inch female, and about twelve total, salmon and trout. Scott and his boat was amazing--the best flyfishing experience because he has been trained and raised on the the Kennebec since 12 years old and you will feel like you are being guided by Huck Finn or a Hemingway character the whole time. My father is an expert but I am not, and Scott was tremendous at giving us both an amazing experience--he never had to make things boring for my dad to suit me, nor anything too challenging for me to suit my father, because he is truly a great guide, teacher, master, and so much more. His boat is an awesome way to fish the three mile river, especially if you are like my father and maybe too old to wade such a challenging river. Freaking unbelievable. And it wasn't even the best seasonal time! We plan to return at least once a year, but probably more. read more
