Are the Pasties here amaze balls? Hell yes! But let's talk about coleslaw for a hot minutes. This was creamy and Horseradishy!!!! OMG! I could eat it the rest of my life. The Pastie was soft, flaky, meaty, and as it turns out my husband and I seem to really like rutabagas. The gravy was standard but not overly salty and we love that. I just hate when all I get is salty taste. We value the flavor of the ingredients. Also beware that pasty is piping hot. The gravy was cold in the fridge so I was happy for it to make my pastie an edible temp right away.

Authentic UP food including pasties and extremely large cudighi's make it a must stop when in Ishpeming. The pizza also looked fantastic and will be my choice for my next visit.

Driving for miles on a cold and snowy road, Lawry's was a site for sore eyes. The Upper Peninsula is known for their pasty shops, and there was no better time to stop for one. My wife and I shared one large beef pasty and it was everything we hoped it would be. It was the fuel we needed to continue our road trip through the unexpected snowstorm. Thank you guys!

Best Cudaghi in the UP!! Be ready to share, they are huge. Home made rolls. Cookies are great too.

We stop every time we are in town. The best Pasties, Cudighi's and pizza around. Normally 6 frozen pasties for the trip home.

Great pizza, Italian sausage sandwiches and pastries. All made from scratch with a plethora of toppings. Decent prices too.

There's a shared parking lot outside the restaurant, so don't let a crowd scene dissuade you from stopping by. The restaurant is bigger inside than it looks from the outside. We were greeted warmly as we walked in and were seated immediately. Our server was very friendly and cheerful and she happily explained a few highlights on the menu. ASIDE: That Friday Fish Fry has got to be awesome; 'nuff said! Mind you, Smokin'Hubster makes great omelettes. His breakfasts are all good, but the omelettes are a step above. After visiting Sherrie's - and ordering omelettes - he's mentioned more than a few times that he wants to go back for more. He ordered the Farmer's Omelette and secretly wondered if he he should order a side of potatoes. When he 'fessed up on the way home, he admitted that the omelette was way bigger than he expected and he was pretty full as is. I, on the other hand, worried about finishing my Italian Omelette without additional sides. Cudighi is a local treasure and the folks that do it well tend to do it generously. In fact, this might be my favorite way to enjoy cudighi! Too often the bread makes or breaks the sammich, but an omelette this good is a way better showcase of flavors. Super melt-y cheese, lots of 'shrooms and just the right tough of sauce; balanced without being sloppy. The miracle of the toast is still discussed today. Both the Hubster and I are rye toast fiends and when we learned that the bread is made on-site... done and done. It really made a perfect accompaniment to the omelettes. Flavorful without a bulky chew, so it toasts perfectly and melts in your mouth. If I was a toast snob - and I might be - this would be in the top three of the Best Toast List. It's that good!

Sherrie's Restaurant is a classic small-town diner that feels dependable in some areas but uneven…read morein others, especially if you come in expecting a polished breakfast-and-lunch spot rather than a traditional local eatery. On the food side, the strength is clearly in the breakfast-style comfort items. Things like omelets, hash browns, and simple diner plates tend to come out hot and filling, with portions that lean generous rather than precise. The quality is solid but not highly refined, more focused on consistency and comfort than technique. Some plates feel better executed than others, but nothing really stands out as exceptional. Service is friendly and straightforward, but it can vary depending on how busy it is. When it is running smoothly, staff are attentive and quick with refills and check-ins. During busier periods, though, the pacing slows and things feel a bit stretched, especially with table timing and order flow. The ambiance is very much old-school diner. It is casual, bright, and functional, with a lived-in feel that matches the style of food. It is not trying to be modern or trendy, and that actually works in its favor. It feels like a place built for regulars, early mornings, and quick, familiar meals rather than long dining experiences. Overall, this is a dependable diner with strong comfort food fundamentals, friendly enough service, and an atmosphere that fits its identity, even if consistency can vary depending on timing and crowd.

We rarely sit outside but this patio beckoned and we were helpless to resist. There's even outdoor seating available if you arrive before the restaurant is open! Silas brought us menus and took drink orders right away. We enjoyed the season's first shandies while exploring the menu. His attention was perfect and we shared some laughs each time he returned to our table. Neither one of us wanted to share (I guess) so we each ordered our own appetizers. I can never get enough smoked whitefish spread... until it's ALL MINE! I enjoyed every bite and would do it again. Patrick ordered the walleye strips and he did offer me a bite (generous devil that he is). They were perfectly crisp without being heavy or greasy. If I had known that... nah, I'd still get the whitefish. We'll be back to visit The Portside and try more menu items. Who knows, maybe we'll split something next time?

Unfortunately tonight I didn't get here early enough so I sat out by the bar, which is absolutely fine. I started with a French onion soup, which I normally do when I'm here, tonight it was a little less oniony than it usually is, but that just could simply be a function of whoever was ladling it up. It's still absolutely delicious. For dinner, I had the chicken piccata with a baked potato and steamed green beans. The steamed green beans are a staple while there are a variety of other sides, such as onion rings or Alfredo, etc. I was a little disappointed in the piccata this time. It was less lemony and more oily than I remember. The lemon wedge helped, but I don't think that piccata would have to need additional lemon to the sauce. The green beans also a little heavy on the butter as was the baked potato. I don't want to say that the meal wasn't flavorful, because it was and my server while really busy was an absolute gem, only that it was a little heavy with the melted butter. After many excellent experiences here, this won't turn me off to coming back again and trying something else. Especially if I can get a table in the back!
