I could have given a 2.5 start for the $6.99 lunch buffet. (that too on a weekend)and this place has been here for 20 years. I prefer going for buffet instead of la carte since it offers more choices and an insight of the menu. (It also means more calories then required :)) On the menu there was a tiny Salad bar with some veggies and chick peas. then followed by Veg fritters and some sauces. for the Main course they had Dry Cabbage( shredded), Korma, Mushroom Spinach, chilly chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Veg Biryani and Kheer for Desserts. It's funny. I have been ordering from Lazeez since the 2000's. I think it was their Vegetable Biryana rice, Naan, etc. It reminded me of "work". You know - employment - when you had to go to a "brick and mortar" building Monday through Friday. We had a lot of people from India who like to celebrate. Like EVERY LITTLE EVENT. Which I LOVE. SO.. Once a year we used to have a festival on our office tower floor. Just food for 30 minutes per the Union rules. But - it was - AMAZING! I had so much fun. I miss that. It was Christmas Eve and we were all exhausted after wrapping presents and other prepping for the next day so I tried carry out and thought to order Indian. It arrived in a timely fashion and the delivery guy was incredibly nice (I am convinced these guys are independent operators not employed by the restaurant, and why is it so many have Chicago area codes?) The food was fine; we got Vindaloo for everyone who likes heat and Masala for those who don't. The chicken was all boneless thigh (typical, though I prefer breast) but it was seriously chewy and overdone, if you didn't factor the sauce. It wasn't clear that rice was included so I ended up with double orders of rice. The nan was okay; the samosas standard. The vindaloo was relatively mild; we ended up using crushed red pepper. Going to Lazeez for a lunch buffet is a ritual that my friend and I do every weekend. I am not sure why there are some bad reviews about the restaurant, especially for the buffet. For the price, 6.95+ tax (that you may pay for a small subway & feel hungry again in less than 2 hours), it's pretty amazing, delicious food that makes me feel I am closer to home. The buffet is extensive and includes two different kinds of rice, 2-3 vegetarian curries, 2 meat curries, dessert and a drink! A few weeks ago, when the owner realised I am a vegetarian and wouldn't eat their stuffed chicken naan, he insisted that I tell him what I would like. In minutes after, there was a fresh, piping hot potato stuffed naan on my table, and I wasn't even charged for it. The waiter was super rude. My boyfriend and I went here with a groupon that offered 2 entrees, 2 appetizers, and two drinks. When we got there, we ordered a Lamb Masala, Lamb Kabob, pakoras, samosa chat, strawberry lassi and mango lassi. The waiter frustratingly retorted "You have coupon or something?!" I said yes and showed him the groupon I purchased. He took my order and left. A few minutes later he came with our appetizers and our entrees. Throughout the meal, we realized he forgot the lassi so my boyfriend tried to get his attention. I was already losing my appetite from the ambiance and way our waiter showed no interest in treating us like regular customers after we presented our groupon. I could not even tell you if the food was good or not. We wanted to get the food to go but still we received no attention even though he was walking pass us several times to assist other customers. At closing time, the waiter realized he forgot our drinks and proceeded to make 2 mango lassi's. My boyfriend didn't even order the mango lassi. I don't know about him but my boyfriend and I was already ready to leave. We thanked him for the mango lassi's anyway and chugged it so he wouldn't feel bad for making us drinks that were only going to be discarded. It didn't taste great especially having to chug it. Then the bill came and we were charged for an appetizer even though it was supposed to be included in the groupon. I looked at my groupon to make sure it said 2 appetizers and it did. I asked the waiter about this and he raised his voice and said "No, it is for one appetizer. I am not trying to cheat you miss. Look in your e-mail." I don't like arguing with people so my boyfriend just paid for the amount and left. If they were going to treat customers using the groupon like shit, they should not have signed up for it. Lazeez is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Albany, NY. Now, I love Indian food, but I never know what to order, and Lazeez offers an awesome selection to choose from. Their naan bread is absolutely delicious and there never seems to be too long of a wait to get a fresh batch of it. I love the fact that they always seem to have the chicken tikka masala, and the fact that you can get this entire meal for $6.95! The ambiance is nice and the host is always really friendly. I've never actually been to Lazeez, but I've had their food delivered many times. Maybe someday I'll get a bit more adventurous and try a different entree, but the chicken tikka masala is so good I end up ordering it every time. I also really like the pakoras and samosas from the appetizer menu. The chutney and sauces that come with the appetizers are so good. So far I've tried the garlic, onion, cheese & regular naan. My favorite is the garlic naan. The menu says the cheese naan is made with mild cheddar. I would emphasize the mild. After checking with my colleagues I came to know about Lazeez , a restaurant where you get delicious Indian cuisines. My colleagues were a regular visitor to this restaurant. I was wondering what was making them visit the same restaurant almost every day. Mid December was the time when I went there for the first time and I just could not stop myself visiting this restaurant until my stay in USA. The reason for me being fan of this restaurant was delicious food and homely gestures. The food is too good, well made, fresh, spicy, no compromise on quality, and practically consistent. Best thing is buffet lunch. You get to eat variety of veg and non veg dishes at a very reasonable prices.I just love the variety of desert they have specially baklava. We had the chance to interact with owner of the restaurant who makes you feel at home and would always stop by our table to say "hello". We appreciated those small gestures. The best Indian buffet for miles around. Awesome Tikka Masala -- big pieces of chicken and just the right flavor. Everything else is good too. I'm addicted. The naan could be a little better, especially because if you get there at the wrong time it's a little soggy from being out. Please note that I reviewing the buffet. I enjoy it so much that I have never ordered a stand-alone entree there. I'm too cheap to do that, considering how much I like the buffet! I really don't have anything but good things to say about Lazeez. It took a while to get my drink refill. Yum yum yum. I love going here for their lunch buffet. We get in and sit right down. The waiter is there within seconds to get out drink orders. I love the Chicken Tiki Masala and I love paneer panaak! The Biryani rice is fluffy and the naan is so fresh. Everything was amazing. The Chicken curry was very tender but the chicken tikka masala was a little over cooked. The masala sauce had a lot of garlic in it, more than I have usually tastes in masala sauce. We decided to have our food delivered. They said 45 min. It was way over 45 min and the delivery guy called us to ask where we were! We told them for the 10th time we were in a hotel and gave him the address. He spoke poor English so this did not help matters. He kept asking but where is the hotel, we kept telling him we are not from here and do not know the area, and gave him the address again! It was extremely frustrating and annoying! He finally called back a few min later to say he was here. We went down to meet him since we thought it might be too difficult for this guy to find our room number! We ordered Cheese naan Garlic naan Chicken curry Chicken tikka makhani Chicken karahi and Beef do piazza First off everything but the naan and chicken tikka makhani were EXTREMELY greasy! To the point where we actually strained the chicken curry! It was pretty nasty, I mean really it was a tiny dab of food mixed in with a pool of grease! The Next disappointing thing was the portions! It was over $50 and they were in these tiny tubs, I would guess about 7-9oz but if you consider most of the tub was filled with grease that's not much food, especially to split between 6 people! The rice portions were a little better. The naan was really good and the kids even enjoyed it as well. I was totally let down as far as spiciness, I ordered the chicken karahi because I thought it would be spicy since it's cooked with peppers and the menu also says spicy. But to much disappointment yet again from this place no, not even a tiny bite to it. Needless to say from my review we were very disappointed and I will not recommend this place to anyone, much less ever go back here! I was a repeat customer, but I will never go there again. Why? Sleazy dealings and lack of customer respect. I was just there for lunch with 4 co-workers (i.e a party of 5). When it came to pay the bill, I said I would pay for all 5 in one bill and then proceeded to give them my frequent lunch buffet card (buy 10 and get one free) which had 7 stamps on it. The logical result of this scenario should have been -- me playing for 4 buffet meals and being given a new card with one stamp on it (3 stamps to fill the original card = one free buffet, and one extra stamp on a new card). Instead I was given a bill for all 5 buffets and was returned the original card with 3 more stamps placed on it. I'm not one who likes confrontation, but another in my group was adamant about doing it. So when confronting them, first they tried to say it was all my fault since the card is supposed to be stamped after paying, not before (seriously? poor excuse). Then the owner (?) said he would only charge for the 4. Fine. I was still missing the additional stamp on a new card, but at this point I didn't care. I payed and we all left. Outside my friend said that when they were speaking in a different language (which he understood), they were commenting on how I was an easy one to fool, etc. Of course this infuriated me enough to write this review. I would never have left a tip if I had known what they were saying. Any place that treats their customers so poorly does not deserve my business. There are plenty of other options in the area for Indian food. You'd think that with all the competition, they would be more ethical and respect their customers. Makes me wonder what else they may be doing to try to 'screw' their customers over. read more

During my 3 years in college I would go there often for the buffet as well as dinner when it was called Shalimar. The food is pretty much the same(at least the last time I checked) The place is pretty dim, which creates this nice intimate setting if you go with a friend. There's a good amount of people and is hardly ever crowded. I always order the tandoori chicken or chicken curry (I love indian curry). It was this place that made me enjoy indian cuisine. I love the spices that this place incorporates into their food. I'm not sure as range of authenticity, but it tasted authentic? Their naan is nice and crisp, I love dipping my naan into my curry. The service is pretty average. I miss this place sooo much! I haven't gone to an Indian restaurant since I finished school *sigh. read more

The lamb masala and palak paneer ordered extra spicy were fantastic tonight. The owner of this place started Shalimar and sold it. I believe he also may own Curry House. Lazeez, Shalimar and Curry House all have basically the same exact food - they are just seasoned slightly differently. I don't think one is better then the other, it all comes down to personal taste. Lazeez some times tastes so similar to Curry House that I cant tell the difference. The korma dishes at Curry House are usually better then the others. I think Jewel of India and Ashiana are not as good as the above mentioned establishments but that is my personal taste. I order every thing highly spiced. I dont even consider the buffetts in my Indian reviews because they tend to be mildly seasoned and not as good as dinners ordered from the menu. read more

Good was so good here! I came here after my sister's graduation and we decided to go with the buffet. Everything was fresh and they refilled up on every dish. The mango lassie was very thick but tasty. The interior decorations by the windows were very nice as well. If I lived around here I would be a regular customer haha.
