    Mango lassies
    Tom P.

A good friend wanted to help me spend my birthday by heading out for dinner. We opted to go here. Although I have been for the buffet many times, a regular sit down meal was a nice change of pace. Not only did we get mango lassies, but a nice mixed appetizer platter as well. My chicken korma was beyond delightful, and even though I could have eaten it all, I opted not to be a glutton and took some home. The next night for dinner? Still very tasty reheated in the microwave. Since they found out it was my birthday, I got a free container of kheer which was also devoured with the leftover korma. All in all a delight and very tasty

Shalimar gives you a full buffet and extensive menu that gives you great pricing. While it's on as good as Karavalli's and Spice Malabar with the zest and additions, Shalimar is still a great restaurant. All of the waiters are clean and fast keeping the food coming in with the dirty dishes get out of the way while you get your fix in. You can't beat the price range. My only one thing that knocks me down on the rating is that the Tikka and Curry chicken buffet seems to be dried a lot even in the sauce. Other than that I'd bring them in to fill your belly.

I ordered through Uber eats for a delivery. The aloo palak joint tasted like they might have used a portion of canned spinach in it. But overall food was good. Fish curry was awesome n Garlic naans were great.

The buffet was average. Nothing really great about it. Must have: Chicken Vindaloo Avoid: Chicken Tandoori

The food was phenomenal, and the service really stood out. Even though I already knew what I was ordering, our waiter took the time to explain each dish, which made the experience feel welcoming and approachable. The butter chicken was absolutely amazing...so aromatic, flavorful, and one of the best I've had. It is a bit more expensive and the portions are smaller than some of the other Indian restaurants in the Albany area, but the quality, atmosphere, and service make it well worth it for a special meal or an occasional treat.

Their lunch buffet (weekdays) is 14.95 and it always includes at least 1 meat on the buffet besides chicken, which I appreciate. Most Indian buffets are chicken dishes only. I find the seasonings used here to be pleasantly well done- it is never bland/lacking in flavor and it is also (when spicy) never overwhelming/too hot to enjoy. We're very fond of Indian buffets so have been looking in this area for a while; this is the best we've found so far. Attentive servers bring water and clear plates regularly. Restaurant is very clean and well run. Enjoy it!

But then the bill arrived... and suddenly I felt like I was skiing at Gore mountain and went off the right trail. Every entre we ordered magically secretly went up $2. Fish? +$2. Lamb? +$2. Garlic naan? +$0 (no bubbles). Onion naan? +$0 (also no bubbles). Same food, same table, same night -- just resort pricing. Apparently we were dining during peak season. Then we found out rice was already included with the entrées. That would've been great to know before we ordered extra food. A quick heads-up from the wait staff could've saved us from over-ordering -- kind of like knowing the lift ticket already includes access to that trail. When we asked about the price differences, we were told prices are "subject to change" and were shown a different paper menu with higher prices, complete with prices creatively crossed out and rewritten. Unfortunately, that was not the menu we were handed -- and I didn't realize I needed to check which "pricing tier" we were on. So yes -- great food. But dining here feels like skiing in New York: the conditions are nice, but the price jumps when you least expect it. My advice? Take a picture of the menu before ordering... or assume everything is black-diamond pricing. Proceed with caution Have fun!

We frequented this place over the past two weeks while taking care of a family member in their final stages of life. Pita and Olive became our family's go-to spot for comfort food. We all ordered various plates from kebabs, falafal, beef and lamb pitas, chicken bowl, and sides of their delicious rice. While running errands a few days ago I actually stopped in JUST to pick up a side of rice and a small cup of their creamy dill sauce (which tastes amazing on everything). Fresh ingredients that are seasoned beautifully and plates that are crafted to satisfy and bring happiness to your tummy and your heart. I want to thank Pita and Olive for providing us with nourishment during some pretty chaotic and sad times.

The addition of the coffee bar/cafe menu has only further endeared me to the place. Just like their food, many of the components of the coffee menu are scratch made, including the milks. They make a pistachio, almond, and oat milk all in house. There may be more too, but those three I know for certain. The attention to detail is also impressive, such as the presentation of each beverage. The cups the drinks are served in aren't just pretty, but also sturdy. Which as a clumsy person, I appreciate. Harder for me to spill. Ha! Something to keep in mind about the cafe menu is that since everything is mainly scratch made or ordered special (their Matcha is from Japan) they will be out of things at times. But there's nothing bad on the menu so I humbly suggest going in with an open mind. The lack of one item being available has caused me to try others, and I haven't disliked anything! I hope they continue to do well and are in the area for a long time to come.
