The service was fantastic. The interior was spacious (check out the fish tank!). The "little" nice things- the piping hot and poofy poori, the chilled beer glass, the warmed hand towelettes after the meal, the friendly servers' smiles really made this an experience worth repeating on the regular.

Service. The FOOD!! Visiting Albany for the weekend. I love Indian food, and the spices. This restaurant, by far, has been the best ever from every place. I've tried. We ordered items we don't get back home where we live in Pennsylvania and they were all delicious! We had two different non-bread, garlic, and rosemary, for appetizer we had the Gobi Bezule, entrees were Mughali Murg Pasanda chicken and Chicken Dahi Murg. Both were awesome but my preference was the Pasanda because of the sweetness of the almond. For dessert we had the Rasmalai. That was good and that sweet. Highly recommend this restaurant! Oh yeah, it ended with a warm hand wipe!!

From the outside, the restaurant looks tired and worn. However you'll be pleasantly surprised by how warm and inviting it actually is inside. I happened upon their Sunday lunch buffet and it was tremendous in size and variety. I had the opportunity to try many different dishes that I have never had before. Some spicier than others but all extremely tasty. The establishment was quite busy, but I found the staff to be friendly and attentive. If you're an adventurous eater, or just love variety then you should stop in. Here, you can try many Indian dishes all cooked to perfection. My personal favorite is the tandoori chicken and palak paneer. Palak paneer is a deliciously creamy and fragrant dish made if spinach and Indian cottage cheese, yum! There are several dessert options but their delicious and light mango mousse dessert and their hot house brewed spiced chai was amazing. It rounded out the meal and was very enjoyable. I am told that different dishes are served on weekdays from the weekend. This has piqued my interest and I'll be back on a weekday to get my fill of deliciousness!

The food was decent no complaints. My husband is a biryani expert and he says he had better. Being in Albany where Indian food is abundant. I think I'd try another spot before returning back here. But I'm glad it is in waking distance of the hotel. They were clean and punctual Sauces a little runny.

Simple, nothing special. Basically rice and vegetables. Still, it tasted good--was satisfying, warming, and easy going (down). Served in a copper bowl. Friendly and efficient service. I ate with my shoes off, and nobody said anything. Thank you for the peaceful experience.

This place doesn't look like much on the outside but inside the decor is inviting, the service is impeccable and the food is outstanding. Even down to presentation which is on par with a finer NY City restaurant. Very clean too which is always a bonus. Love it!!

I loved this place! What a delight. Pleasant, cozy atmosphere, very attentive service, and all of the food was clearly freshly and thoughtfully made, with very distinct flavor profiles to each dish. The menu is huge and includes a bunch of stuff that I've never seen at other local restaurants. This was my first time trying a Keralan dish (the Aleppy prawn curry, which features grated coconut and tart fresh mango), and I loved it. We also got the bagara baignan, which was also new to me (I looked it up: it's from Hyderabad) and my husband couldn't stop talking about how much he liked it -- he really appreciated how well cooked the tiny eggplants were. The naan was great, but the paratha my friend ordered was even better. Even the desserts, which can be an afterthought in a lot of restaurants, were tasty and prettily presented. This is definitely my new favorite local Indian restaurant, and I'm looking forward to working my way through a lot more of the interesting menu items.

Just had an amazing dinner at Great Indian Kitchen! Inside looks really nice.. nice ambiance and very clean. My kids love the fish tank, and the mural with candles at the entrance was very pretty. The staff was great- very friendly, and welcoming. All the food we ordered was amazing. For our main entrees we ordered several special lamb dishes , along with some garlic naan and a chicken tikka masala for the kids. Everything was on point! Lamb was cooked to perfection very flavorful and tender. Chicken tikka was delicious- tender chicken and we asked for mild curry since it was for the kids. They loved it! Garlic naan was perfection- soft with a light crisp. Desserts we had the rice pudding, rasmalai and the shai crème brûlée. Whenever we eat Indian I always order the rice pudding and rasmalai for dessert.. it was very fragrant and not overly sweet- just done right with hints of cardamom. Of course we devoured it all. I want to try everything on the menu. We were so stuffed I literally felt like my stomach was going to explode and it looked like I was pregnant. But I couldn't stop eating. The food was that good and service was exceptional. Truly a hidden gem in the capital region. I wish I lived closer. Whenever I'm in the area we will def be back for sure. Thank you Rocky and Vincent!!

Samosa chaat, always a fave app.

Took a weekend trip up to the capitol area and was craving Indian food. As soon as my partner and I arrived, we Passed this place on the highway and decided to stop in. We were immediately greeted and sat by friendly staff, Started off with the samosa chaat and the hot and sour soup. Both delicious but Samosa chaat came out a bit cold. Would have liked it on hotter (temperature) side. But it was flavorful. Then for entrees we got chicken biryani and Chana masala. Both were once again, very good. The garlic naan was also a delicious addition. You also get ALOT of food for the price so it was a great value. I think the only thing they could maybe work on is the ambience of the place. It had a little bit of a dining hall feel. Sort of sterile and not very cozy. Other wise, great place if you've got the curry cravings

Let's talk about the black mold--yes, black mold--on the ceilings and in the women's restroom. That's not just gross, it's a full-blown health hazard. The entire building feels like it hasn't seen a cleaning crew--or basic maintenance--since the early 2000s. The windows are caked in filth, and the air has that special "what died in here?" aroma. We were charged $140 for six people to sit in what felt like a biohazard zone and nibble on food so repulsive it should be illegal to serve. We left after 10 minutes because honestly, it felt like our immune systems were under attack just being there. My sister started having stomach pains within five minutes of leaving. I'm not saying the food caused it--but I'm also not not saying that. This place needs to be shut down, fumigated, and bulldozed. I will absolutely be calling the town, the health department, and anyone else who will listen. Do everyone a favor and close this dump before someone ends up in the hospital.

Pork Egg Roll was good. Sushi was 4 stars. There were six kinds. No signs to identify. The accompanying Seaweed Salad was excellent. A bowl of pickled ginger was available. Yum. Salmon and mashed potatoes were good. Did not try stir-fry or pizza. Desserts were poor. Fresh watermelon slices were old and DRY. What? Pineapple was fresh. The only disappointment was they didn't have boneless spare ribs (the one thing that I wanted) but maybe they rotate dishes. Notable items include: beef & broccoli, chicken in garlic sauce, sesame chicken, pork egg roll, dumpling, stuffed mushrooms, chicken wings, and clams in garlic butter. Items to skip: stuffed clam, vegetable lo mein, sweet & sour chicken, and fried donut (needed more powdered sugar). Beware: some of the items may be mis-marked. But if you're looking for something milder, they're great at that, too. I think the large menu has been updated since my last visit. The first few pages include dishes that I would describe as "soul food." There's frog, beef tripe and pork intestine-- you get the picture. I never really got into that. On this visit, my friend and I picked Stir Fried Spicy Squid, Crispy Chicken with Crunchy Red Pepper and Bok Choy with Garlic. We were hungry. The veggies came out of the kitchen almost immediately. Crazy fast. We were grateful. The other two dishes took a bit more time. When you see all of the ingredients in those dishes and how finely sliced they are, it's no wonder. I loved the chicken dish. The chicken was a little crunchy but the red peppers were super crunchy. It was a bit spicy but deliciously so. I liked the peanuts and what looked like slivers of jalapeño peppers, too. The squid was also great. Here, I think they used more jalapeño peppers and spices. There was more heat to this dish but it was deceptive. The more I ate, the more I could gradually feel the burn. By the time we were full, I could feel my face starting to sweat a little. That was fun. The restaurant is clean and attractive with a remarkable amount of seating. The back portion is reserved for hot pots which I have yet to try there. The staff is friendly, helpful and bilingual. They will make suggestions if you'd like. This restaurant generally gets a bit noisy because it's where large Chinese families gather when they want to go on the town. That's a good thing. There's also a large screen tv that plays cooking shows. With so much going on, the customers seemed pretty happy.

Every restaurant has a day here and there where they just don't meet expectations, this was one of them. I did express my disappointment to the main server, who confirmed they were short staffed and apologized. Our main sever and all the gauchos were very good and friendly. The main server was on top of everything, but the gaucho service was extremely slow. My wife and son barely ate much meat due to the slow service. I ate more, but waited and waited for several cuts, which made it to our table not nearly enough. I usually finish off with the Picanha, but after asking specifically for this cut, waiting nearly 30 minutes with my family sitting impatiently, I threw in the towel and flipped my card to red and asked for the check. The steaks and meats that came out were excellent, with maybe 1 cut being a little over cooked. I know we are in a time where finding, hiring and retaining quality employees is challenging, but it's still disappointing when you pay good money for a higher end restaurant and leave disappointed. Will I go back? Of course, it is Texas de Brazil. I have dined at all 5 of their restaurants in NY and Albany is usually good, but this isn't my first disappointment at the Albany location. The staff will bring you beverages and clear the table very promptly. The atmosphere is simple and straightforward, with pleasant music and no TVs. Today's buffet had some items I don't always see, such as papadam, and naan is on the buffet. The pakoras option was one I'd not seen elsewhere, cabbage. It was delicious, quite addicting, but also quite filling. There were several vegetarian options, 3 types of rice, 3 types of chicken, and a mutton entree. The spice level was ever so slightly higher than what I've had for some similar options at other restaurants in the area, which I also liked. There were multiple dessert entrees, including a vanilla custard/pudding, and a creamy kheer with a subtle and pleasant flavor of cinnamon.
