Soooo yummy and very kind service! I highly recommend the malai kofta and some garlic naan. Literal heaven! And super nice people too.

Just ordered a take out for a small order. We got roti and rice as we had left over gravy from another Indian restaurant we had eaten at. We called in the store to order, but the lady who took the order didn't communicate effectively and hung up in between. We didn't even realize that she had hung up on us before we could complete our conversation. I normally would have switched restaurants but since I had to visit the store in the same plaza, I ended up ordering at chatpata. Instead of calling, I went online, surprisingly the prices online were lower than the price if ordered over the phone. You literally can't mess up rice and roti. I have eaten here in the past too and the food is good. read more

I am not really an Indian food expert but my friends and i have been here a few times. The food is pretty consistent. My favorite Chicken biryani and the nan bread. They have decent prices. I will come back for dinner buffet and try everything else. read more

I am updating my review on 1/28/23 8.5/10 This place has become a go to for me. I have gotten the chicken sheek kabob and it's so good but make sure you get the onion chutney with it. You must get the chicken tikka. Some of the best I've had in all my adventures. I've been getting the paneer karahi and it's also very good. Can't really go wrong with the food here! Decent Indian food. Not the best I've had, but still rather good. It was empty when we arrived but started to get busier after our order was placed. Lots of take out and to-go orders were fulfilled while the dining room started to bustle. The main issue was lack of staff. Think there was one person in the kitchen and there was only one fine young gentleman handling the entire front. We had to wait for quite a while to get our check...but the food was served fairly fast since we were there before the rush. We ordered naan, raita, mango chutney, channa masala and chicken tikka masala. Mango chutney usually has a kick to it...this version was just sweet. Naan was fine and the rice that accompanied the main courses was good. Main entrees were (as mentioned) decent; didn't make me want to over engorge like I normally do with kick-butt Indian fare. That said, I'd go back to try the buffet and other dishes sometime. read more

Above-average North Indian buffet with a la carte ordering as well. There's a generous selection of about a dozen tureens that seems to change frequently, judging from the extra labels they leave on top of the sneeze guards. Quite a range of vegetarian choices as well as meat dishes. They have goat curry on Friday, Saturday and Sunday: meat chunks in a mildly spicy broth. Tandoori chicken was tough and without the charred onions I like on the side. My favorite dish was something called "Chili Chicken", like an Indian version of sweet & sour. Unusually wide choice of condiments (chutneys and raita). The buffet is $9.95 at lunch, $11.95 at dinner and includes naan, tea and rice pudding. This is a high 3 stars and would probably hit 4 stars except for service issues: used plates were not picked up and water glasses were not refilled. But I was there quite late in the lunch hour and the server may have been on his/her break. read more

Went in for a weekend lunch which means no buffet which is a bummer. I love trying new Indian restaurants for the buffet because it means I get to try a variety of their offerings. Everything here was fine but lacking in flavor. I found the food to be just a little bland. They served what my husband ordered with squeeze bottle sauces and the rest of us used them on our entrees. He got a chicken wrap that's on the back of the menu and I recommend everyone order that if there's no buffet available. It was really tasty. Heard takeout is good from here too. May try that in the future. read more

My husband and I both love Indian food and Chatpata does not disappoint. The times we have gone, it has not been very busy so we received specialized service. Food comes out quickly and they are right there for every need. Only four stars instead of five as the cleanliness could stand more attention. We were there last night and I received a spoon that was smudged with what appeared to be stuck on remnants of food. There were old streamers and tape stuck to the wall near our table from a previous celebration, a box of something on one of the tables, what appeared to be a cleaning cart near the register and a few other things out of place or not picked up. The ladies' restroom was in need of cleaning and painting. So overall, the ambiance is less than desirable. Kind of like going to someone's home who is not worried about the finer details of having things clean and organized when they have company. Aside from that, the food is delicious and the service is impeccable. Definitely recommended. read more

I really wanted to like this place, I've tried one or two other Indian restaurants in the area and for me this place did not hit the mark. The raita was on the sweeter side which I was not particularly a fan of. I also did not enjoy their garlic naan, off flavoring to me. The butter chicken sauce - was amazing, the chicken not so much. The chicken pieces were small and hard and did not have good flavor. I ordered off doordash and everything was packed nicely. Unfortunately I just couldn't get down with the raita, garlic naan or the chicken. But that butter chicken sauce was to die for! I will say most of this could just be preference as well, this is just in comparison to what I've had before at other places. read more

I really like this place! I like the owner. I like the food. I like being alone in the early afternoon while the rest of you order out. It used to be busy inside. Frankly, I feel safe that the other's eat elsewhere. The tandoor chicken is really, really good. I only eat it at one other restaurant in Albany. I have never had a dish that I didn't like here and the owner is very gracious and helpful. I like this restaurant so much that I have eaten here more than any other Indian restaurant in my life. The chicken tandoor is not exactly traditional to me, but I love it. The vegetable dishes seem balanced and tasty to me as well. Try eating here. I find it worth it every time. read more

Dude. The Friday buffet is bombdiggity and cheap. It's something like 14$. Soda is extra (by the can) but I think it's like a buck a can or something. Been here a few times for the buffet. My buddy also ordered some beef nan bread and let me get down. Wow. Phenomenal. Also for the buffet they have 2 spicy chicken dishes in the corner one after another. I should have looked at the names. But wow. Mad good food. I admittedly don't dive deep into the more specific dishes as this is one of the few places I've had Indian food, but I'm sure in the future as I try more I won't be disappointed in this place. read more

We stopped in on a weekday only to find their buffets run fri, sat, and sun after 5. Bummer as we were there during lunch time. The food was delicious and portion size didn't need a buffer to please. We even ordered one of our favorites not on the menu and were accommodated without qualm. Service with a smile, music we could have danced to, and premier food. I was here a little early for dinner, around 5pm and the place was empty. I wasn't sure if they were open because the overhead lights weren't on but I was shown to a table when I asked if I could eat in. They took my order and served me fairly quickly. The food was a large portion and the Korma I ordered tasted good. They have several types of naan on the menu but I ordered the plain which came buttered. I'm not sure what the difference is between the plain naan and the buttered on the menu. Just note that naan does not come with any of the meals it has to be ordered separately. I love rice pudding so despite taking left overs home I decided to splurge on dessert. This also came as a generous serving but was pretty terrible. The rice was overcooked and broken (not a huge deal and typical at some places since rice pudding is to use up leftover rice) but the flavor of the coconut milk and cardamon which I love was note there. Rice pudding is one of my favorite things to get at Indian restaurants but after 2 bites it wasn't even worth finishing. Over all the meal and service was average. No one really spoke to me while I was there and it was very quiet. After bringing my check no one said have a good night or thank you for coming. They never did turn on the lights until I was walking out the door. I wouldn't say it was a bad experience just awkward and average. I'm not sure if I will be back. read more

Came in late on a Thursday. Staff very friendly and helpful in explaining some unfamiliar dishes. Food was excellent especially Chili Chicken and Spinach Paratha. Service was slow as there were only Tahir( our server) and who ever was cooking ( maybe also Tahir?). As someone more familiar with Anglo- Indian food, some of the flavors were different than what my guest and I are used yo but that is truly a good thing. We will be back. read more

Ordered takeout and my order included the following: 1. Lamb biryani 6/10 Okay flavor, oilier then I would like and had a sweet after taste probably because it had a lot of raisins. I loved the spicy biryani that the old owner of this venue had and was slightly disappointed. 2. Chilli chicken 8/10 This dish reminded me of a well balanced indo-chinese dish and had a good flavor profile. Chicken was overly coated otherwise quite a lovely dish. 3. Naan 6/10 Chewy (not in a good way) almost like frozen naan. 4. Malai kofta 6.5/10 I love this vegetarian dumpling medley but this fell short. The vegetable ball was sweet, crumbly and the sauce lacked depth. I am hoping this lack of quality was due to opening jitters. Really hoping to find a good Indian place in CP?! read more

The Naan is from Trader Joe's! This is the exact same naan. At Trader Joe's this pack of naan (4) is $1.99. This restaurant charges $3.75 for one piece cut in fours. What a rip-off! My party of 3 really enjoyed our experience at Chatpata. We ordered a number of appetizers and main dishes and all were delightful. The best dish was the Chef's Special Biryani, which included a very generous portion of deliciously spiced meats. Prices are also very reasonable. I really treasure a family-oriented feeling in restaurants, and Chatpata has it. Several staff members visited our table at different times to see if we needed anything and how we were enjoying the meal. Finally, I want to mention, they have the best naan I ever had. Try not to bother eating in; service is terrible and the ladies bathroom is filthy to boot with a rouge soap dispenser fallen from the wall and placed on the toilets top, and a roll of paper towels to wipe your butt.. Place looked shut down even though it had been open for a few hours on a Sunday, for some reason half the lights were off. It took 15 min after I sat down to get a glass of water and even longer for a single cup of tea to come out while waiting for my friend to arrive. The appetizer came out before I got a beverage...my mouth was on fire and no drink to be seen... I even asked about my drink and they said it was still being made (water and tea at 1:00pm). (When I arrived iI was greeted by three men, one was prepping something simple in plain view, and the place did not seem busy in the least or understaffed.) Call me a queen but I felt the whole gesture to be pretty unwelcoming, was wondering if I would have been treated better if I had shown up with a man or had been Indian. Otherwise, it was affordable at least. Chicken tikka masala was tasty. The Dal was mediocre. Made the mistake of ordering a "salad" where the lettuce had turned more brown while on the table... I was not charged for this item... They turned on all the music and lights and rolled out the welcoming mat 20min after my friend arrived, but I wonder why they would act like I didn't exist without a Plus 1. I'm half Turkish so as far as I'm concerned they should be going out of their way to make all guests who choose to eat there feel welcome, that means keeping it clean/stocked and not act like I'm not some appendage waiting there for a man to show up and make me beg for a glass of water. read more

New place in town, figured I'd give it a go. Albany thankfully has quite a variety of Indian cuisine, and I'm glad to have other options, because this wasn't my favorite. Let's start with the good - weird naan flavors! I tried the jalapeno-cheese naan, and it was different, but really enjoyable! The part I'm not sure of yet - normally my favorite Indian appetizer is veg samosa, which I'm used to being a little spicy, filled with potato and peas. This had no discernable spice, and the addition of carrot, which lent it an overall sweeter taste then I'm used to. Normally I would also use the cilantro sauce for a different kick, but this was much sweeter than I was used to as well. Not sugary-sweet, but a definite sweetness. I ordered Chicken Seekh Kabob for my main dish - expecting rice with the kabob meat in a single dish. Instead I had a whole container of meat. Will definitely stretch to a few leftovers. Upon further research, I was expecting kabob, not "seekh kabob", which is perhaps the key to my misunderstanding. The meat itself is very flavorful, which is what keeps this review straight down the middle - I didn't love everything, but while it wasn't at all what I expected, everything was edible and I'll definitely eat my leftovers. With a new place, I should have tried something more standard, but I'm glad I didn't, because I did get to try something totally new. (That said, the samosas could be better.) read more

LOVED the food here and the five star treatment was to die for. We were visiting from out of town and craving halwa puri ka nashta. The owners made it off menu specially for us on a Saturday morning (even though they normal offer it on Sundays only) Authentic lahori cuisine. Delicious pakoras, hot puris, great variety of Currys and such in the buffet! The kheer was one of the best I've ever had. So creamy and exquisite! Doodh patti was kadak - perfect for tea lovers.
